Graceful through the forest over briar and thicket she flies,
In her long white taffeta dress looking like a cloud in the skies,
Her ivory horns shining the envy of all the highland stags,
Careful to avoid thorn and branch so her gown never snags.
Her slim and delicate frame hints at her sweet gentleness,
There are many who'd gladly wed her for what she does possess,
For with her kiss comes eternal youth as long as you shall live,
A gift bestowed by a princess only if she's then willing to give.
Many have tried to take it and many presumed too much,
Both fey and human kind have longed for her loving touch,
From promises of wealth to many a declaration and deed,
All of them rooted in selfishness for their own ends and greed.
She's rejected all her suitors and hides from ambitions of court,
Now strolling by the densest foliage to capture a peace she sought,
Listening to the chatter from the woodland creatures there,
There's little here to worry her and she relaxes without a care.
From the broad oak's leaf to the fronds of the feathery fern,
She walks barefoot on mossy banks and often comes to learn,
For the trees and fish or the birds and animals are her confidants,
They share with her their secrets and on rare occasions also plants.
She knows all their languages and converses at great length,
Promises them protection whilst they give wisdom and strength,
It's a mutual sharing of protection and the Fairyfolk rally to friends,
Loyal to those who help them and in return their forest defends.
Her chestnut hair flows long and free lustrous is every strand,
All she touches feels renewed such is the power of her hand,
Her jade eyes glimmer like morning dew and rarely shed a tear,
For her nature is often guarded except when she comes alone here.
In this place she can relax and we all need a retreat we can go,
A special secret getaway that nobody else ever comes to know,
Unless one day she confides in a true love which she's never had,
For now her friends of the forest fill the void and make her glad.
She smells the wild rose and tastes the fresh mint and water,
Calls to a fox, laughs with the elm and eats what bees brought her,
Honeydew and nectar mixed with a host of other foraged fare,
The fairy appetite is delicate she must be alert and take great care.
Skipping over rocks and stones over rivulets and streams,
Running, dancing being free just like she is in her dreams,
Here is a life far removed from palace pressures and duty,
She needs to work hard to impress just to overcome her beauty.
Here where the delphiniums grow in abundance by a clearing,
She finds herself coming to sit a while her senses now cheering,
For the bright hues and the scent of them remind her of love,
There is one she knows and sends them thoughts up above.
As the chipmunks dart around her feet and the deer graze nearby,
Her heart ventures to travel as she looks to the lavender sky,
Love creeps up unsuspecting when you least expect it to rise,
Overpowers common sense and leads to confusion and sighs.
The badger licks her fingers and the jay lands on her bare shoulder,
It's as if she sleeps and is a waking statue but nobody has told her,
And the squirrels and ivy wrap around her skirts gently tugging there,
While the dragonflies weave in a pattern into her soft silky hair.
Transfixed she rests in a magical and peaceful kind of sweet repose,
Until the breeze gets chilly and leaves have covered her clothes,
And she stirs and stretches careful not to scare or alarm her friends,
Flies back to be a princess again to a life in which she often pretends.
