Examining Medjool Dates, one of the World's Premium Dates
There are many different types of dates that can be found; one type of date that is well known in foreign countries is the medjool date.
Medjool dates are premium dates with thick flesh, small seed size, and a sweet taste.
Medjool dates come from the date palm (Phoenix dactylifera), and today they grow in warm climates such as the United States, the Middle East, South Asia and Africa. Farmer and importer of medjool dates from Jordan, Nayef Tell, said that every medjool date grown in various regions has a different shape and taste.
The sweet taste produced by medjool dates is almost the same as the caramel taste. Physically, medjool dates have a more oval shape, dark brown in color and have a textured skin.
Specifically, Medjool dates from Palestine, have thicker flesh and are much larger in size.Even though they are large dates, Medjool dates from Palestine are still grouped by size, namely large, jumbo, and super jumbo.
Fresh medjool dates are characterized by a bright date color and a nice shape. Meanwhile, medjool dates that are less fresh are characterized by faded colors and have undergone a crystallization process. The crystallization process on dates is marked by the appearance of white spots on the outside of the dates.
The crystallization process in dates is not a sign that the dates are spoiled and unfit for consumption.
