Communication refers to the exchange of ideas and thoughts between two or more people. However, many issues affect communication. First is, the way we use language. We all know that some of the people can speak as many languages as they can to communicate in other countries, but some of them only know one or two languages. For example, here in the Philippines, there are many dialects in every province. When you go to other provinces like Pangasinan and you are from Laguna. You only know the Filipino language and you do not know how to speak their language so there is a problem because you do not know how to communicate with them and there is also a misunderstanding between you and the people you talk to. And also, in terms of using technical words that are difficult to understand. Like speaking English, I know that some people are good at speaking English but if they use too much technical vocabulary and we do not know what that means, it may be difficult to communicate or understand what is being said. Especially if they use jargon in their language and their accent.
Second, unorganized message. If you are talking to someone in an unorganized way then it is very difficult for people to follow what you are talking about. So instead, you should give a proper presentation of the ideas. As an example, if you are talking to someone, just give the main points of your message and stick to your message. You must be clear and concise, you do not have to prolong what you are saying as long as you give your main point.
Third, noisy environment. We know it’s hard to understand what we’re talking about when the surroundings are noisy. For example, if we are on a road where there are many vehicles and we have difficulty communicating because of the noise around us, we still have to shout just to be heard by the person we are talking to.
Another issue is physical distance because if the person we are talking is too far away, for example, in a building the other person is talking to you while you are on the other side. You will have a hard time understanding what you are talking about because it is so far away and you still have to shout just to hear each other.
Lastly, the demographic background. When a person is around 20 years old and talking to an adult about 40 to 50 years old and the way they communicating is like shortening words, reversing words that can cause misunderstanding because generation now is different than before so we must communicate well so that we can understand by those we are talking to.
In order for humans to survive is communicate to others so that they can help each other in some way they need. Communication plays an important role in our lives and even in society. We all know that communication is sharing an idea, views, or opinion with others but it is not only on that because it helps us to build good relationship with others. We can communicate in different ways either both verbal or non-verbal whatever it is we want to express. We can communicate through signs and symbols and so it is another way for us to understand each other as well.
As of this pandemic, communicating with others in real life became difficult because of the quarantine protocols that we need to follow. However, we can still communicate to our loved ones all around the globe and one way is that the use of technology. This is very popular nowadays through clicking of your fingers, you can connect to the world. We do have different ways of communication, but it is better face-to-face in real life, so that misunderstanding will be avoided. There are social media where we can use to communicate to the world, but then we should also be reminded that we should not be misusing those media that serves as a channel so that misconception is avoided. Therefore, communication is a way to express our feelings to one another.
