Mushishi is one of my favorite anime. It brings you to a world full of mystery and adventure learning from the life experience of other people. It has an aesthetic art that makes this anime more amazing. But what I really love about this anime is the hidden messages from every episodes. And the meaning depends on the understanding of every persons. Some of it are really deep but the feeling after watching that episodes is very nostalgic and refreshing.

This is my favorite episodes in Mushishi Season 1. I will try to share my decoded meaning too. And be aware that some may contain spoilers. I'll make sure to keep it minimum and avoid larger parts of the story. And here it is, let's start.

My Favorite Episodes in Mushishi (Season 1)

The Light of the Eyelid (Episode 2)

The story of a girl who lost her eyesight and become sensitive to light because of a mushi that possess her eyeballs. This one is really deep. Finding light in darkness is a good representation for this episode. With the help of her friend despite of the risk of getting infected too , will the girl regains her eyesight?. The speech of Ginko about the "second eyelid" really makes me think hard.

The Pillow Pathway (Episode 4)

This is a very tragic story. A story of a man who can see premonition in his dream. Later he doubts that he can predict future but instead, he's the one causing it. And with the help of Ginko's investigation, they confirmed that it is indeed a work of mushi. The story just simply tells us that predicting future is not a gift but rather a curse. And that part where they explain "We spend most of our life in pillow, thats why we can consider it part of us" makes really sense.

The Traveling Swamp (Episode 5)

Ginko encounter a swamp formed mushi and a girl where he believes to be alive and moves from place to place along with the swamp. The message of getting into a journey with a hope that one day you'll reach into the wide sea got my heart for this episode. It is simple and light but the message is clear.

Where Sea Meets Man (Episode 8)

My favorite episode for this whole series. A story of a man who waits 2 and a half years for his wife who lost in the sea full of white sea snakes. The story of regrets and willingness to wait for someone you love is really admirable for this episode. And the part where he and Ginko return to the sea in hopes that he will find his wife really got me teary as Ginko explaining that "Only those with desire to return to land could see the land and return to it. "

One-Night Bridge (Episode 13)

Story of a girls who fell into a bridge three years ago. She miraculously survived but appeared to be completely different person. As Ginko investigate the situation, he discovered what really happened that night and learned the existence of a mushi who form a bridge. Those who already made their decisions can cross to other side but if you hesitate and choose to go back, it will only lead into your demise. What really happened that night and what story will unfold in this episode?

Sunrise Serpent (Episode 16)

Memories is the most important treasure you cant afford to lose. And in this episode, a boy approached Ginko with a problem about his mother severe memory lose. Ginko believes that it is a work of mushi who eats memories of their host but keeping the important ones to keep it alive. A story of an unrequited love of a mother and a wife.

String From the Sky (Episode 19)

A beautiful love story from Mushishi. Ginko encountered a girl who stucked between human and mushi world. It happened when she pull a string hanging from the sky. And to return her to normal, she must feel and treated to be more human. How will her fiancee solve this problem?

Shrine in the Sea (Episode 22)

I just love this episode simply because of the story. Reincarnation and Time travel stuff is my taste and this episode gives me a good experience to it. It happened when Ginko traveled in an Island where people are believed to be dying and being reborn. A mushi that feeds on time from remaining lifespan of a person are behind this.
