Part 2: Treatment of depression
Depression can also be treated through psychotherapy, both through antidepressants and simultaneous use. Given the nature of your depression symptoms, their severity and your conditions, it is advised that it is better for you to use medications or psychotherapy. The use of psychotherapy in mild and medium depression can cure health, but if depression is more severe, it becomes necessary to administer the drug.
(psychotherapy)In depression, most people feel better by sharing their feelings with a confident person. Sometimes it is difficult to share your feelings with relatives or friends. In such a case, it seems easier to talk to a psychologist. Treatment through psychotherapy takes time. Usually you have to meet a psychologist for one hour every week and the duration can range from 5 weeks to 30 weeks.
If your depression is severe or has been going on for a long time, your doctor may prescribe you antidepressants. These medications reduce sadness, improve life and improve their ability to cope with situations. Remember that the benefits of antidepressants do not start appearing immediately after starting the drug but can take 2 to 3 weeks. Some people feel that after starting the drug, their sleep improves within a few days and the nervousness decreases, but depression takes several weeks to subside.
There are several chemicals in the human brain that deliver signals from one shell to another. Depression is believed to be deficient in two special chemicals called serotonin and noradrenaline. Antidepressants help in increasing the amount of these chemicals in the brain.
Like all other medicines, depression is also harmful but usually they are not severe and are eliminated in a short time by taking medicine. SSRI antidepressants cause nausea and discomfort in some patients in the early days. Taking tricyclic antidepressants can lead to complaints of mouth dryness and constipation in the first few weeks. If these harmful effects are not very severe, it is likely that your doctor will tell you to continue with the drug because continuing the drug in most patients reduces or eliminates these effects.Taking certain antidepressants leads to sleep, so they are instructed to take them before going to bed at night. Avoid driving and using large machinery in case of drowsiness.
Some medications may have reactions to some other medications, so inform your doctor about every medicine you are using. If you continue to drink along with taking antidepressants, you will get a lot of sleep and the medicine will not benefit fully. After starting the medicine, keep showing your doctor regularly to see if you are benefiting from the drug and it is not having harmful effects.
Antidepressants have to continue for at least another six months even after they are in good health, otherwise there is a risk of disease symptoms returning. Antidepressants are slowly switched off. Do not stop medication suddenly from yourself without your doctor's advice.
Most people are worried about getting used to antidepressants before they start and then they will have to take these medicines for the rest of their lives. This idea is not correct, humans are not used to antidepressants as people get used to sleeping drugs such as valium, alcohol or nicotine. Unlike these intoxicants, they do not have to be increased or severely sought to maintain the benefit of antidepressant sedation. However, if you suddenly turn off antidepressants, there may be complaints of panic, thin stools and nightmares. These complaints are rarely made if the drugs are slowly switched off.
Many depression patients are cured by the treatment of their family doctor. If you are not in good health, you may need to show psychiatrists. Psychiatrists become doctors and have since undergone further training in the treatment of psychiatric disorders.
