Man nearly won $1.5 billion dollars: but...
A Virginia resident changed his mind at the last minute and lost an opportunity to make $1.5 billion dollars.
Insider reports that Carlos Gutierrez, a Virginia resident, won $1 million in the lottery, but he's hardly happy about it: he missed the opportunity to win $1.5 billion at the last second.
According to the lottery administrator, on October 9, the man stopped by a cafe to have breakfast before work. The cafe where he had breakfast, Lee's Sandwiches, was selling lottery tickets. Carlos Gutierrez decided to try his luck and buy one of the tickets.
He chose Powerball 14 ticket, which included the following numbers: 16-34-46-55-67. The man was about to buy it, but something stopped him at the last minute. Perhaps 14 is not his favorite number, something told him to do otherwise, Gutierrez chose Powerball 19 at the last minute.
The next day the man came to the same cafe for breakfast. There everyone was actively discussing the unknown lucky person who won a million dollars in the lottery. Gutierrez checked his lottery ticket number and realized that this lucky person was him.
Sounds perfect. It's prohibitive luck, but there's a nuance: the Powerball 14 ticket the man didn't buy would have helped him win $1.5 billion. Gutierrez was the only one paying attention to him that day, so the $1.5 billion jackpot went unclaimed.
But if the man had made the right choice, he would have been the lucky owner of a fortune that would provide a trouble-free life for him, his children, and possibly his grandchildren. But Gutierrez does not despair: a million dollars is a good sum. The man has a business, he is not poor, but a million dollars is never too much. Gutierrez said that he will invest it in the development of his business. And it is quite likely, if he is lucky, this million dollars will turn into a billion over the years.
