A pregnant woman has jumped into the sea to save her husband from a shark attack. The incident took place in the US state of Florida.
The BBC quoted police as saying on Friday that Andrew Charles, 30, was snorkeling in the ocean water. The shark bit him as soon as he got into the water. His wife, Margot Dukes Eddie, watches her husband's blood turn red. Without hesitation, he jumped into the water. After removing her husband from the water to a safe place, other family members called 911.
Andrew Charles Eddie was taken to the Trauma Center last Sunday in Miami. There he was treated for a shoulder injury. Rescue officer Ryan Johnson told local media that Eddie's condition was critical.
The couple from Georgia went on vacation to Florida with other family members. They were cruising in a boat there. Some of them were snorkeling in the water. ADO jumped into the water to join them. And then he fell prey to sharks.
Police say others in the area were snorkeling well.
Witnesses said they saw an 8- to 10-foot-tall shark swimming in the area the day before the incident.
Florida has the highest number of shark attacks in the world. According to the Florida Museum, there were 21 shark attacks in 2019.
