The Day Before Valentine's

Standing in the middle of the local cemetery holding a boquet of white roses was an average tall emotionless brunette girl looking at a headstone, drenched in the cold rain, the girl kneeled down and placed the white roses beside the the headstone taking a small glimpse on the letters incarved on the white gray marble headstone.

September 27, 2005 - February 13, 2019

A single tear rolled down her cheek and a soft smile appeared on her face as she her eyes looked sad and broken, looking over to the other headstone on her right she took a single rose from the boquet and stood up, and headed over towards the other headstone. Touching the top of it and kneeled infront of it, she placed the rose beside it and looked at the letters written on the headstone another tear forming in her left eye,

May 30, 2002 - February 13, 2019

she stood up and looked at the two headstones with a saddened look as the tear rolled down her cheeks. Forcing herself to not to burst out crying she left out a small whimper and smiled one last time before leaving the cemetery with tears in her eyes, walking down the sidewalk drenched in rain some tears rolled down her face as she walked,

”K-Keep yourself together Mia, don't go bursting out crying again... s-stay strong” she muttered quietly to herself.

After a 20minutes of walking in the cold rain, she eventually arrived at the front door of her lonely apartment which she used to live in with her sister Jenna, opening the door she came to sight of the dark living room whose only source of light was the light coming from the opened door as Mia stood there for a few seconds. She walked towards her room, but halfway towards her room she stopped, looking over to her right she saw Jenna's room

Mia stared at it for a minute before she walked towards the door and placed her hand on the doorknob. Taking in a large breath, she closed her eyes opened the door slowly, looking around her younger sister's room and once again she became teary-eyed, Mia fell down on her knees silently muttering some words as heavy tears came rolling down her cheeks as she cried more and more her eyes now getting red and puffy. Clutching a picture frame of her sister's that was on a nightstand close to her chest as she sobbed heavily, Mia suddenly was starting to fall asleep slowly still clutching the picture frame closely to her chest.

It's Mia's 17th birthday and both her boyfriend and her younger sister were planning a surprise party for her along with Mia's friends, they spent the whole day planning secretly as Mia was still her classes with her friends distracting her throughout the day, Jenna and Alexander were discussing on who should bring the cake when Mia suddenly sat down beside Alexander.

“It was lunch time ofcourse.” Jenna muttered,

She was clearly annoyed at the fact that they can't plan the party properly with her sister around, she wanted Mia to just go and hangout with her other friends to give them some peace. At the end of the Jenna's last class she rushed out the building with her stuff and headed to the park immediately where she and a couple of Mia's friends were waiting, and once she arrived Jenna ordered everyone to start preparing the place

While Mia was being distracted by some of her friends at the mall the others were busy preparing the place for Mia,

“come on guys.. we gotta work fast. We don't know for how long Eliza could keep Mia distracted for.” she said helping Alexander with the balloons.

Jenna was constantly checking her watch to make sure they weren't one step behind the plan,

she kinda looked like she was having a panic attack for some test she didn't reviewed for...

But even though she kinda looked like she was going mad the others know that it was all her worry about the party. Whether her sister will like it or not at least she tried her best to give Mia the best 17th birthday ever, few minutes after they finished preparing the place Jenna immediately withdrew out her phone and texted Eliza that everything was already setted up and ready for the celebration. For some reason Jenna felt a little nervous but excited as she went with Alexander to pick up Mia's cake at the bakery,

“So...” Alexander said while keeping an eye on the road. Jenna looked up at him “How's the relationship been going on with you and my cousin?” he asked grinning a bit.

“O-Ohh..” Jenna stuttered, he has never discussed the ‘No dating until you're 18’ rule ever since she told him and Mia that she was going out with Alexander's cousin.

Alexander was quite shocked at first and even scolded her for it. But she knew he had great intentions as Jenna viewed him as a big brother while he viewed her as a little sister, even though they always fight like crazy over the last slice of pizza every movie night like siblings do. He was quite acceptable that she had gotten together with his annoying @ss cousin cause he wouldn't prefer anyone else suitable for the job

He was like the super overprotective brother that would never let you out of his sight. But she liked it either way cause it was so new to her as she never had an older brother before nor has she asked some of her friends of what was it like to have one. She somehow liked it, she liked having an older brother even if it was not by blood. Alexander even joked about how she could be his long lost sister as they both have the love for ramen. I mean like who doesn't like ramen?!?! It's like the most tastiest thing ever to exist on earth!

On their way to the bakery Jenna received a text message from her boyfriend Justin saying that she and Alexander need to be careful on the way, she quickly replied to his message saying; ‘yeah sure, we'll be careful. Don't worry’ .

Alexander peaked at Jenna's side to see who texted her and was chuckling to see it was Justin. He laughed at the texts he sent her from behind her. ‘God. Kids these days are so cringe’ he thought to himself as Jenna gave him an annoyed look which made him hard to contain in his laughter.

He finally bursted out laughing while Jenna kept giving him death glares, Alexander was laughing all the way to the bakery which annoyed Jenna greatly. They were finally driving back to the park when Alexander had stopped laughing his butt off and was focused on driving while Jenna was listening to music.

They were almost at the park when teasing each other when an overspeeding truck had suddenly crashed into them, it happened so quickly that neither Jenna nor Alexander had time to react to the situation. There they both sat in the car both knocked out and blood dripping from their faces but worst of all both Alexander and Jenna was seriously injured.

Alexander's head was bleeding so heavily and so was Jenna's, a lot of people gathered around the scene frightened and shocked as someone called an ambulance. Eventually a friend of Mia's who was also driving on her way to Mia's birthday celebration when she saw what happened on the way and noticed the accident and immediately checked it out. Only to be terrified to find out that it was Alexander's car involved in the accident.

She immediately drove towards the park to tell the others, which was only a few minutes away from where the incident had took place. She looked completely white as a ghost when she ran her way towards the spot where the others were also accompanied by Mia who was somehow curious where had her boyfriend and sister are.

At the time she reached the others, she was already sweating from nervousness and panting heavily. Mia looked at her friend with wide corcerned while she told her what happened, panting after each word that escaped her mouth.

“..Mia.., Jenna.... Alexander.... I saw them..... the- they were involved in an accident.... a few minutes away from..... here...” she said, every breathe she took shaking.

Mia's mouth was opened wide as a tear rolled down her cheek, the others' whose mouths were also agape. Moments later Mia was rushing out the park and ran as fast as she could towards the crowd of people at a distance, tears were rolling down her face heavily, when she arrived at the scene, pushing her way past the crowd, she fell down on her knees horrified at the scene infront of her. Jenna was being brought to the ambulance her face was bloody and there were broken window glasses stabbed on her face, neck, and arms.

She was crying heavily when someone hugged her from behind, turns out the others followed her here too. Mia was terrified while looking at Jenna's body being brought inside the ambulance. Her vision began to blur badly that she can't see anything properly then...

Sudden darkness surrounded her and she stood up having no clue where she was and how did she get there. Then a beautiful brunette angel appeared right before her eyes smiling at her, her eyes began to tear up more as she saw the angel's face, it was her little sister Jenna, she was there standing infront of Mia.

“J-Jenna!!” she screamed, then hugged her sister tightly, more tears escaping her eyes.

“Hey sis” Jenna replied calmy, hugging her sister back while smiling.

“You- You're... alive!! A- And you have wings!!” Mia said, looking both happy and confused. Jenna frowned and looked at her sister with watery eyes.

“No Mia... I'm not alive... I'm already dead you see...” she said, every word she said felt like being stabbed in the throat.

“Wa- Wait... You are?..” Mia felt like all happiness was drained from her

“Yes sis.. I'm dead.. But... I have something to tell you..”

“What is it?..”

“Please stop living misery sis.. Don't waste your time sulking everyday.. You gotta live your life for fuck's sake!!” Jenna shouted, then covered her mouth and looked up and said “Oops— sorry god” she did the peace sign then turned back to face her sister

“I know you feel miserable without me and Alexander, who am I not to miss?—” Mia laughed at her sister's sarcasm “— but you should move on, make new friends, get a job, graduate, and travel the world, not sit here crying your eyes out all day and plus.. It's only been a few days you bimbo!!!” Mia bursted out laughing at her Jenna's reaction.

“Like bruh— is this what happens when I go visit dad in California during summer break? You are such a big crybaby Mia!!!” she said sarcastically.

“But seriously though, live your life! You only get one life in a lifetime” Jenna pointed her finger above as a sign of sarcasm, Mia knows that god might not let Jenna back into heaven because of her attitude. Mia smiled slightly as she realized this was the last time she would see Jenna face to face

“Don't worry, from now on I'll try to live the best life I could have.... even if it isn't with you...” a single tear rolled down her cheek again while smiling.

Jenna looked at her sister and smiled widely and said “Good Mimi, don't worry, I'll always look out for you from above even though I'm the younger one”

They both hugged for one last time, only for this time it lasted more longer than regular hugs, but now all of Mia's pain and misery from the incident were all gone and in the past now.

Mia woke up in sweat as she gasped for air, ‘There it is again... stupid dream’ she thought to herself as she looked around her. She fell asleep on the floor clutching the picture frame closely to her chest, she stood up, she was in her sister's room, drenched in sweat. She walked her way towards her room, picked a T-shirt and some short from her dresser and headed to the bathroom then hopped in the shower. After a few minutes, she got out the shower, got dressed, then made her way to the kitchen.

She scanned for something to eat in the fridge then took out two eggs, some bacon and a jar of milk, frying the eggs and bacon in the pan, Mia went to her room and took out a book quickly and hurriedly ran back to the kitchen. When she finished cooking she placed the food on the table, sat down on a chair and started flipping through the pages of the book slowly. It was a photo album full of both Jenna's, and Mia's memories over the years, smiling to herself, she took a bite of bacon then looked at the funny memories of her and Jenna. She chuckled to herself while looking at the photos

All of Mia's pain and suffering were gone now, even though she experienced a tragic event on her birthday and lost her beloved sister and boyfriend she still continued to be the bright and cheery girl that she always is, cause now she knows that even if her sister is not with her physically, she at least knows that Jenna is always and forever watching over her big sister.
