Statue of Unity, is located at the Sardar Sarovar Dam on the Narmada River in theNarmada district of Gujarat, India. The 182m (600ft) high statue is a tribute toIndia's freedom fighter and the first deputy Prime Minister, Sardar VallabhbhaiPatel who is known as the "Iron Man of India". It was built in a record 33 months.It was designed by Ram V. Sutar, a sculptor from Noida. The statue is built byLarsen & Toubro. Cost of constructing the statue is estimated at 2,989 crores. Ithas a viewing gallery at 153 metres, which can accommodate up to 200 visitors
at a time and offers a bird's eye view of the 200km reservoir of the SardarSarovar Dam and the Satpura and Vindhya mountain ranges. The statuecan withstand earthquakes measuring up to 6.5 on the Richter scale andwind speed of 60m/sec.To help tourists reach the statue with ease, the government is alsobuilding a 3.5km highway from Kevadia town. The Shrestha BharatBhavan which is adjacent to the statue is designed to become a 3-starhotel with 128 rooms. A vantage point has been designed for selfielovers at the gallery of the statue from where people can create theirown memories.The Statue of Unity was inaugurated by the Prime MinisterNarendra Modi on October 31, 2018. It is the world's tallest landmark statue.
