Paleolithic tools

The Old Stone or Paleolithic Age Hood rathering Man : Tools and Implements : From the time of his appeatures on earth man learnt to make tools and implements. Yor, he physical strength was not adequate enough to enable him collect food and find shelter. While trying to hurt streng animals he found that he could not hit them by hand only but could injure them by throwing stones at them. Anyway, with the onward march of progress of human civilisation he learnt to make new kinds of tools and implements. At the initial stage of civilisation man knew the use of stone implements only, and hence it is known as the 'Stone Age'.

The long period of about 5,00,000 BC to 8,000 BC during which man could make crude tools and implements of stone, is known as the Old Stone or Paleolithic Age. Man of this period was a food-gatherer, Hunting was his main occupation.

Food-gathering men were nomads, moving in groups from place to place in search of food. They would eat whatever they could get at hand. They would take shelter in groups in the caves. In a word, they used to live like savages in that period. In the Paleolithic Age men used very crude and unpolished tools and implements to hunt as also to save themselves from wild animals. They used to make tools by breaking stones gathered from nature. The major types of tools made and used by them were: hand-axes, choppers and flake implements.) Towards the end of the Paleolithic Age there was a change in the making of tools and implements made by the early man. Tools were now also made of bone and ivory. With some improvement in the nature of tools there was also even the need of tools to make tools. Paleolithic people acquired some knowledge that also led them to invent bow and spear-thrower as weapons. The two implements increased the hitting range and accuracy. Also these were superior to the muscular power with which the people used to fight enemy and fierce animals It has already been said that in the Paleolithic Age man was a food-gatherer. The greatest drawback of this kind of living is the absolute dependence on nature. For millions of years man hunted animals and exhausted them in process.
