The Neolithic Revolution Domestication of Animals, Invention of Pottery, Weaving, etc! made steady progress in the path of civilisation. Apart from producing food, man domesticated animals and learnt the art of pottery and weaving. During this period man gave up his nomadic life and began to lead a settled life. Thus was created the society gradually. The drastic change that came about in the life of man in this age is regarded by the historians as a frevolution'. It must be remembered

that this revolution was possible because of the discovery of agriculture,

a. Domestication of Animals :'Man began to domesticate animals after he had lived a settled life. It became easy for the cultivators to tame animals and feed them on the husks of grains and the un-used plants in the field.At first man's chief purpose in domesticating animals was to ensure the supply of meat and milk. Gradually other uses of animals were discovered.

b. Invention of Pottery : Potter's Wheel : In the New Stone Age man mastered another art—the art of pottery. Man needed pots to store the grains. Man needed utensils also as he had learnt to cook his food by this time. First of all, he learnt to make baskets by using thin branches of trees for storing dry food and make pots by plastering clay round the baskets. These were hardened or baked by heating them on the fire. Afterwards the invention of the potter's wheel enabled man to make beautiful earthen pots. Gradually the wheel was utilised for the purposes of drawing carts and spinning yarn.

c. Beginning of the Art of Weaving : The modern art of weaving originated in the New Stone Age. Man began to spin yarn and weave cloth. He began to make cotton and woollen threads and weave cloth with the help of these threads. The invention of machine for weaving is a great triumph of human intelligence.

• d. Dwelling : Man began to Logs tied up to make a raft 1099 lead a settled life in one place

Besmob ar after he had taken to agriculture. So he required strong-built houses to live in. Sometimes he made use of stones and bricks to build his house. He also built stone or brick walls round his house to protect himself from wild animals. Houses were also built close to the shores of lakes.
