The Lake-Dwellers :

It is now established that the Neolithic culture spread in Asia much earlier than Europe.Houses of the lake-dwellers But details about the development of the culture are known from the Lake, Dwellers of Switzerland. In Switzerland, the lake-dwellers built houses on the shores of the lakes. Also in the swamps houses were built on piles as a measure for protection against rising of the water level. The lake-dwellers of Switzerland used sharp stone tools with handles. They cultivated various crops and wore linen clothes. Also they domesticated animals like goats, sheep, pigs and cattle. The lake, dwellings in Switzerland date from 2800 BC.

Early Transport : Towards the beginning of the New Stone Age a kind of wheelless cart was used. Later on, with the Dug-out canoe invention of potter's wheel, wheel was used in drawing a cart. Later still, this cart was drawn by animals. Trunks of trees were also rolled to carry heavy articles.

Neolithic people tied several logs together to make a raft which was used as water-transport. They also used their axes and fire to hollow out tree trunks. One such dug-out canoe has been found at Perth.
