Historical facts of river valley

1. Dawn of Civilisation in the River-Valleys : For agriculture the most suitable land was that by the side of rivers. Fertile soil with sufficient supply of water

was the best for the purpose. Grass for the domesticated animals could also be found on river-sides. People, therefore, began to settle down on the banks of big rivers. About six thousand years ago people began to settle down along the courses of the Tigris and the Euphrates in Mesopotamia, the Nile in Egypt, the Indus in India and the Hwang Ho and the Yangtze Kiang in China. We shall now read about the civilisations that developed in the river-valleys.
