• 1. Early Man : Science has proved that the appearance of man on earth was not an abrupt thing. Man was created gradually through a natural evolution. Some hundred years back Charles Darwin, a famous scholar, proved that the direct ancestor of man was one of the
mammals, the ape (monkey). There is much difference between the man of today and the early man. But how did this change come about? How did the early man look? What was his mode of living? It is not possible to answer these questions correctly. But it has been possible to form a fair idea about the early man from his bones, skull and weapons used by him, which have been discovered in several places of the world.
a. Java-Man : It is presumed that early man appeared on earth about 5,00,000 years ago. The remains of this type of early man were found in Java (present Indonesia) in South- East Asia. He is called Java-Man' after the name of the place.
