What went wrong for Chelsea?
Chelsea as a team makes lots of individual errors which costs them goals always, like last year. I have noticed that when they play with 3 CB they have much more confidence as a team. They played with 3 CB and won the man utd game in the fa cup and the match with spurs in premier at spurs' stadium. So, if Lampard will not repair this issue of getting stupid goals from individual errors, they better turn to 3 cb.
If they didn’t make those errors and even scored in the first half, they’d be on for a great win overall. Just a few kinks they need to iron out but it’s nothing they can’t do over the next weeks due to fitness. Forgetting one of the goals given away was by silva and it was his first prem match he wasn't up to full speed today he will be better than that next match. And Chilwell still to come in I hope he's playing the next match because Alonso is awful. They also have Pulisic and Ziyech to come back I don't think they would have struggled to score in the first half if they were back fit and playing. The comeback is a big positive! We’ve never seen this team doing a comeback in the PL before today. Lots of positives to take too. Mason was amazing, he deserves the starting spot. Callum needs to start against the Spurs.
Player performance review
In the second half, everyone gave 150% to get the point. Their academy Boys saved the day Mount and Tammy. The positive to take is that they showed real character going forward to come back from 3 down. What I take from this game is that mount is a class attacking midfielder, not a winger. Odoi is criminally underrated, and in games like these should be starting. It's tough having this much depth in the midfield, but it will be great seeing players fight for their starting spots. Lastly never count them out. Tonight game shows the fighting spirit of another lever n Chelsea but the way they conceded those goals in the 1st place is what am not getting Lampard needs high pressing like that of their opponent's cops and citizens to compete at least they can rest assured that tomorrow is better.
Mount and Havertz together as two AM's with Kante holding up were too much for West Brom. Pulisic, Ziyech will be playing the next match hopefully and you will see why we spent more than 200m. Always, it is the pain that makes them stronger. This is a lesson Lampard has learned and l believe this will rarely happen in this season. They have a great team and from the next match, you will understand why l say they need to be positive. Additionally, Giroud was in because wingers were expected to feed him through crosses, in the first halve Reece James was doing crosses but they did not have the likes of Giroud in the box. Had they fed him like James was feeding in the first half, they would have won the match today. Chelsea should improve the stamina of the team and improve the playing speed of the team to stun opposition. The Germans lost motivation when the team was playing badly.
Did Lampard lineup worked?
His lineup are questionable not saying he should be axed but he should work on the defensive structure. Secondly, Alonso on LB is always a mistake away from happening they all know this starting from when Sarri said he can be the best left-back in the world( no pace no awareness, and positioning as a defender is terrible if they can all see this why can’t Lampard too. Would have started azpi as lb since the start of the season. I know he isn’t to blame completely for the situation now but he has to share part of the blame coz he is the manager. They are shaky at the back this wouldn’t happen if Mourinho was in charge even under Sarri they weren’t terrible defensively this is poor defensive coaching mainly due to the way they play. The players need to fight harder they have the potential to be strong this season.
Lampard is a great thing he is out of his Depth at Chelsea he needs to step aside for his legacy Emerson played very well on Thursday why is he not even in the squad? What happens to Ben? Does Lampard want Military fitness for him before he plays Ben? He picks Alonso alongside Thiago what do u think will happen Don’t even get me started on the tactics. Yes, he did well. Fixing his own mistakes doesn’t make him a good manager. Lampard knows he made mistakes tonight
I don’t want him out, but it’s becoming increasingly clear Frank doesn’t take defensive duties as seriously as he should. I know there were two individual errors. But those errors arose from casual passing at the back. Something Frank endorses. And as for the third goal, it was evident the players are not getting clear defensive orders. It all feels very make it up as you go along. Unless Frank deals with these issues it will end up being his downfall. This is gonna take time for their squad to gel together but they have to be patient and trust the process
Chelsea also owes a huge thank you for Lampard. Werner, Ziyech, Havertz, and Silva all joined cos of Lampard cos he is adored by everyone with sarri in charge and no chance any of those 4 would have come, Lampard lost hazard and couldn’t sign a replacement he has produced some very promising academy players and got them to champions league if they had any other manager last year instead of Lampard and they would have finished lower than arsenal Super Frank!
Thiago silva and Kepa criticism
Fans should not write him off just yet. Other than that mistake he was solid. I'm sure he can bounce back from it. He has the mentality for it. t's unfair on Kepa but that's just how the football world is, Kepa doesn't get a pass especially now, if this was 18/19 he would have, Christensen again I thought he carried the defense from falling apart even more at times, again I agree with the James one, he was poor defensively today, seemed lethargic, hate how slow they start and it's not the first time already this season, every game they struggle for 20-30 mins and they were punished badly today, what I'm saying it's not fair to give Thiago massive criticism just isn't fair coz he did well bar that and had some brilliant passes and wasn't at all helped by Alonso, sorry about being a bit aggressive, seems you do know your football and they just disagreed on a subject, I back all players but it's obvious at the time who's good enough and who ain't. You have two quick defenders who are absolute ballers-Tomori and Rudiger and you consistently play lazy and slow pairing of Christensen and Zouma in Rudiger.
For example, in Kepa's case, he was previously really good till Lampard came in. His save percentage was 67+% and saved crucial penalties in their run-up to Carabao Cup and Europa League Final. However, when Lampard came in who I respect and fully back led to a deterioration in Kepa's form and I attribute this to the tactics especially corners. As you can see is every corner they usually do a mixture of zonal and man-to-man marking which confuses sometimes and more crucially leads to overload at their far post which causes goals that are usually blamed on Kepa. However, since Kepa isn't around the problem is highlighted a bit more because it's a problem with tactics not necessarily players. As they arguably had a worse defense under Sarri yet we have conceded way less under Sarri.
As imagine Kepa's mental health that his fans don't back him nor do other supporters and that his only escape from this abuse is when he plays for Spain. Aside, from that, it is quite harsh for me to criticize Thiago so I agree with the fans. I just think that if this was Kepa the levels of abuse, memes, and death threats would become crazy high. That abuse and stuff Kepa gets is disgraceful but at this point, these plastics in the fanbase think it's ok, it genuinely hurts me seeing the toxicity rise.
Chelsea needed Emerson cause Alonso is too slow. Emerson should've started in Chilwell wasn't fit which was the case but its Alonso. Why can’t Zouma start okay I get it Chilwell might not be 100% fit but at least start Emerson. Werner is not a winger he’s a striker and what has an odoi our only winger done to be frozen out Kante is a dm he can’t attack let him sit why Christiansen instead of Zouma this is embarrassing.
Havertz performance review
I thought havertz played quite well. I mean he did poss some danger. I think he gotta take more risks with his passing and shoot more, he keeps choosing the safe option. They gotta give him time , adjusting to the fastest most physical league takes a bit of time, today he was dropping deeper and deeper to get the ball.
