River erosion is going on at 63 points of Dharla, Teesta, Dudhkumar and Brahmaputra in different upazilas of the district. In Kashem Bazar and Bhogdanga of Sadar upazila of Thetrai area of Ulipur, houses, mosques, temples and crop lands are being washed away by the river every day. The Bhurungamari Unnayan Sangstha organized a human chain yesterday afternoon to demand the implementation of the proposed project to prevent the erosion of the Dudhkumar river. Kushtia: Intense erosion has started in Daulatpur with the reduction of Padma water. In the last 10 days, a large number of houses and cultivable lands in Maricha Union of the upazila have been washed away by the river. The Raita-Mahishkundi river protection dam, which includes power transmission lines from India and educational institutions, is under threat. Only 500 feet away from the river is the 500 MW power transmission line from India. Locals say that if the demolition continues like this, some villages of Maricha Union will soon disappear with these installations. River erosion has started in an area of about 3 km from Bhurka-Hatkhola to Koldiar in the union. Hundreds of bighas of land have been washed away by the river in the last few days. Bogra: The water of Jamuna and Bengali rivers is flowing over the danger zone in Sariakandi. Crop fields on both banks of the river have been inundated. Floodwaters have entered the locality.To save the crop, some farmers are trying their best to drain the water by installing shallow machines on the submerged land in Ghordaur village of Khamarkandi union in Bogra's Sherpur upazila. This village resident farmer said. Golam Rabbani said he has cultivated paddy in eight bighas of land and vegetables in two bighas of land. About a month and a half left to harvest. In the meantime, he has been able to reduce the water by 4 feet. Farmers from a few other nearby villages like them have taken such an initiative. They demanded construction of sluice gate at the mouth of Meghai canal.
Naogaon: The flood situation in the district has further deteriorated and more than 150 villages in 18 unions of Raninagar, Atrai and Manda upazilas have been inundated. Millions of people have been flooded. The flood waters of Raninagar, Atrai and Manda upazilas have not been repaired. New areas are being flooded every day. Raw houses are crumbling. Crop fields are sinking. Many families have taken shelter in high places and dams. 6,000 hectares of crops have been submerged in the district. Hundreds of pond fish have been washed away. Farmers are in trouble with cattle.
Sirajganj: Hundreds of villages in the lower part of the district have been submerged due to the flood waters of the Jamuna. Millions of people have been flooded. About two and a half thousand hectares of new crops have been submerged. The loom factory has sunk. Weaving equipment is being destroyed. Millions of loom owners and workers are living unemployed. Houses and furniture are being destroyed due to drowning. The stove is not burning because the kitchen is submerged. Many families have taken shelter in Wapda Dam. There is a shortage of food, clean water and medicine among the flood victims.
