The use of all the destructive mobile phone apps called 'Bigo Live', 'TikTok', 'Likee' is misleading the young generation. Using these apps is destroying morality, social values ββand mutual respect. Young people are getting involved in criminal activities by joining teen gangs, becoming violent. Law enforcement says users of these apps are being monitored, but no action is being taken against them as they are not a direct criminal offense.
It is known that one of the harmful apps spread on the internet is 'Bigo Live'. Through this, some women came live targeting the youth and youths and called for sending money for development with obscene gestures and vulgar offers. They snatched a lot of money through mobile banking. It is learned that the expatriate Bangladeshi youths living abroad are falling into this trap the most. Most of the expatriate youths become enthusiastic to chat with the youngsters in the text and video chat of this app mainly because they are away from their families and to get rid of loneliness. The search also revealed that many young people have been financially harmed by falling into the trap of cheating while using the app. This app is basically a live streaming platform, where a user shares moments live with his followers.
In March of this year, it was the sixth most popular live streaming app in the United States and the fifth most popular in the world. The app has already become popular among the youth in Bangladesh as well. But those concerned have expressed concern over the misuse of the app. The app has already been banned in India and Pakistan.
The Chinese video sharing social networking service called 'TikTok' is a very popular mobile app among the young generation in Bangladesh. The video of a teenager named 'Apu Bhai' went viral on social media through this app. Apu gained fame in a short time by posting videos made with green hair, misogynistic offensive words and strange expressions. Apu quickly became a celebrity to the new generation. But Apu and his associates, who became popular in a short time, got into an argument with a driver while hanging out on a road in Uttara, Dhaka in August. The young generation is releasing pornographic videos on this Singapore-based short video creation and sharing platform. Apps like Emo, through which users take advantage of audio and video calls, are also littered with offensive videos.
