(c) What are the consequences and effects of global warming?
(d) What should you do to reduce global warming?
Global warming refers to a steady process of continuous rise in the level of world's temperature. Increasing level of carbon dioxide gas and other greenhouse gases on the earth are the main reasons of heating the atmosphere of earth. It is a major problem which our environment faces today terribly. Global warming is the gradual warming of the air because of heat being trapped on earth.
This is happening because of the destruction and burning down of tropical forests, traffic clogging up the city street, rapid growth of unplanned industries, the use of CFCs in packaging and manufacturing products, the use of factories in an unplanned way etc. As a result, the amounts of carbon dioxide are increasing. This is catastrophically reducing mankind's ability to grow food, destroying or severally damaging wildlife and wilderness, raising sea-levels and thereby flooding coastal areas and farmland. The weather pattern is changing. Rainfall pattern has also disturbed which causes drought in some areas and flooding in other areas. The alarming news is that the polar ice caps and glaciers are melting continuously. It is causing loss of habitat near to the poles and polar bears have greatly endangered.
Wild animals living in the forest are endangered because of their habitat loss due to deforestation. Bangladesh also cannot escape the paws of this enemy. The lower southern part of the country may go under water one day. In order to reduce the effect of global warming, effective societal responses are needed to be implemented and followed urgently. It includes working against the emission of the greenhouse gases by improving the vehicles, creating awareness among the people, selling environment-friendly appliances; encouraging recycling of paper, metal and glass etc. Only then we can combat this problem in an effective way.
