When it comes to martial arts, the name of the legendary Bruce Lee comes to mind first. He took this thousand-year-old self-defense strategy to a unique height. One form of this martial art is karate.

History of Karate:

Although it is not clear where karate originated or its past history, it is certain that karate originated more than a thousand years ago and its father is a Buddhist who is now better known as Daruma. In about 50 BC, this Indian Buddhist monk introduced the first systematic exercise in a small shrine in China. Invented for the purpose of strengthening the body and mind, this art has evolved in different places over time and acquired the present form of ‘karate’.

This current form of karate, or modern karate, originated on the island of Ryuku in Japan (now Akinawa).

It evolved partly from the name of the native warfare method (? অর্থ literally, "hand"; Okinawan Ti) and from the Chinese kenpo. Karate is a hitting technique that involves punching, kicking, hitting the knees and elbows, and free-handed techniques. Karate involves grasping, tying, tying, throwing, and hitting at critical points in a number of ways. A karate practitioner is called a ‘karateka (空手 家?)’.

Although learning karate may or may not seem easy, it takes a lot of hard work and effort to master its techniques. However, if you know a few basic things, you can be at least one step ahead of others in becoming a karateka. So let's learn a few basic things about karate!

1. Meditation:

Which is the most important part of our human body? Of course our brains! All our work is done at the behest of this brain So it is very important for us to keep this brain fresh And a pair of meditations to keep the brain cool! Before starting karate practice, you have to meditate for at least 5 minutes

First of all, take a seat in the flat place of a quiet room Then keep your spine straight and close your eyes. Forget the thought of studying, the thought of CGPA, the troubles of daily life. Forget it in such a way that after closing your eyes, it will feel as if you are sitting in a closed room There is nothing in that room, except a fireball Slowly you will feel that the ball of fire is revolving around you This sphere is the energy and vigor of your heart, which you want to achieve by learning karate You need to keep this sphere firmly in place so that it doesn't stay in front of you even after you open your eyes. Then breathe in slowly through the nose and exhale through the mouth. After doing this breathing process 10 times, you will gradually feel very fresh and lively.

2. Body warming or warming up:

It is important to warm up at least 10-20 minutes before doing any exercise Due to the warm up, the muscles of your body become a little relaxed and active If you start practicing without warming up, there is a possibility of tension in the muscles Then it will be very difficult to do the simple steps and it will be seen that you are breathing very fast.

Stand in the same place for warm up and keep running hard for about 15 minutes Then complete the warm up session with 5 minutes push up (at least 20 times) and 5 minutes sit up, leg lifting, reverse push up or crunching (at least 20 times).

3. Stretching:

To make the body a little relaxed and flexible, it is very important to do stretching before starting the practice. Especially leg stretching will protect you from almost all kinds of injuries Basically, the stretching phase starts after the warm up Because when your muscles are quite warm, then you can practice karate well. At least 15 minutes of stretching is enough.

4. Philosophy behind karate:

At first glance, karate is seen by many as just a form of fighting or violence. But karate is a kind of pure sport and self-defense strategy It would be wrong to say only self-defense tactics, the main theme of karate is 'peace'.

5. Keeping the foot position correct:

Your kicks, strikes, blocks - nothing will work unless you keep your feet in the right position. For example, if someone can't hold a cricket bat properly, then what kind of cricketer is he? Similarly, if one cannot hold his feet properly, he will never be a good karate player.

Different types of karate exercises follow different types of foot position Such as:

Shizentui-dachi: I have to keep my legs the same as when I walk or walk normally. With this rule, your front foot will be in front and your back foot will be at a 45 degree angle to the back. And the distance from one foot to the other will be the same as when walking normally.

Zenkutsu-dachi: This method is very similar to Shizentui-dachi, but here the distance between the two legs is a little more and the whole body mass will be on your front legs.
Nekoashi-dachi: It is also called ‘cat stains’ In this method you have to keep your legs normal, but keep your full weight

7. Balance:

No matter what position your body is in, always try to keep your weight in the middle of that position. Maintaining one's balance is very important for learning karate For example: to kick in karate, you can save energy by lowering your legs a little and then kick Then the kick goes in place and a lot of force. But if you lower your legs too much, you will lose both speed and balance. And do not stay in the same position for long during the attack. Then the opponent can easily attack you

8.Focus on your strength and speed:

There is no point in knowing how strong one's muscles are in karate. Rather, it is more important to know whose speed and agility is higher. Everything in karate depends on your speed and strength

If the energy of the whole body is used, more force will be created However, learning karate does not mean that you will be able to move a large object by force. The purpose of learning karate is to learn how quickly you can move an object of any size from one place to another.

9.Punching and blocking:

There are several types of karate punches. Such as: Straight Punch, Upper Cut, Knife Hand, Spare Hand, Elbow Strike, Back Fist etc.
And blocking in karate is very important, because the longer you can hold your opponent, the faster your opponent will get tired. And when the opponent gets tired, it becomes quite easy to defeat him

10. Karate Kick:

There are 5 types of basic karate kicks.

Front Snap Kick: This method involves bending the front knee slightly and kicking hard with the front foot. And the hind legs will be on the back side As soon as you kick, the front leg should be brought back to its previous place.

Side snap kick: This is similar to a front snap kick, but the kick should be given to the side, not to the front.

Side Trust Kick: The foot with which you kick, place the foot on the opposite knee and kick your body slightly back.

Back Trust Kick: This is similar to a side trust kick, but this kick will have your eyes on the back, and your kicks will go where your eyes are.

Round Kick: This kick will have both legs like a cat stance. You just have to turn the front wheel and kick the front
Variety of belts:

In modern karate, different colored belts are used to indicate the ranking of the students Every time they go to the next step, they have to wear a new colored belt instead of the previous one, which means they have passed the next step.

This variation of the belt starts from white color Before the twentieth century, the popularity of these different colored belts was not very high. Usually, new students are given white belts everywhere This white belt indicates that their student ranking is 10th queue

Then comes the yellow belt 7 If a student takes regular karate training, he or she will have to take the test a few months later to move on to the next step. He was given this yellow belt soon after passing that test. After getting the yellow belt, the ranking of that student is 8th queue.

The color of the karate belt gradually changes from light to dark The color of the third step belt varies from place to place Normal 8th queue is given orange color and 4th queue is given blue, green and purple belts.

After about a year of training, the students were given a brown belt as the 3rd queue. The 1st Brown Belt was awarded after two more years of training.

The color of the highest karate belt is black. Achieving a black belt for a karate student is quite an honor. By getting this belt, they also acquire the skill of giving karate training to others However, getting a black belt does not mean that the student will not get points after that. His points will continue to increase, but the color of the belt will remain the same. And the point will then be counted as 7 from Q to Dan Such as: 1st stage dan, 2nd stage dan etc.

And if you want to know about the benefits of learning karate, you can't say no! The wide range of methodological practices of karate and the tradition of fighting that are practiced for a variety of reasons. Such as self-defense, competition, physical healing and well-being, as well as mental, physical and spiritual improvement. Karate is also a form of high-level aerobic exercise. It is popular all over the world as an art, sports and self defense technique. Martial arts and karate have been practiced in East Asia since ancient times. People of any age can do this exercise according to the rules. However, those who have problems with the spine and heart, they must consult a doctor before practicing martial arts.
