‘Give me an educated mother, I will give an educated nation’ - this memorable quote of Napoleon Bonaport is known to all of us. An educated woman can educate a family. There is a proverb in Arabic for this, ‘Educating a man means educating a man, and educating a girl means educating an entire family.’ Half of the world’s population is women. Therefore, keeping in mind the overall welfare of the human race, it can be said that there is no alternative to women's education.
Necessity or importance of women's education: The importance of women's education is indescribable. Because women are half of the human race. It is not possible for the society to move forward by keeping half of the population out of education. If this half of the people cannot be well educated, national development, progress and welfare cannot come. The importance of women's education is discussed below:
Women's Education in Women's Development: The importance of women's education has become undeniable in the course of time. The position of women in society is forever neglected and backward. There is no substitute for education for women to overcome this position. By getting education, women will be aware of their own rights and health. Therefore, the primary element for the development of women is women's education.
Women's education for employment: Women need employment to be self-reliant. Because employment can give financial security to women. The importance of education for timely employment for women is immense. At present, the government has made arrangements to preserve quotas for women which guarantee access to women's work through education. Primary schools have been told to hire 80% female teachers. Which is a huge opportunity for women's employment.
Women's education in the protection of the family: An educated woman in the protection of the family acts like a protective fortress. Because a well-educated woman is health conscious. And a health conscious mother, wife or sister is always trying to protect her child, husband or siblings. Again an educated mother is always concerned for the bright future of the child and guides the child accordingly. He notices the child's movements, discipline and all other things. As a result, children can be human beings. A well-educated woman is essential for a secure family.
Women's education for the education of the child: Most of the time after the birth of the child is in contact with the mother. The mother's behavior, mannerisms, speech all affect the child. Chalk in the mother's hand in the child's education. If the mother is educated then the child must be educated. Being educated by a woman means that the next generation of that family will be educated.
Women's education in nation building: Half of the total population of Bangladesh is women. The need of the hour is to turn this huge population into an asset through education. Educating women in real education will play a very important role in shaping the country. Therefore, the government of Bangladesh has taken various steps to expand women's education.
The necessity of educating women according to Islam: People do not become wise or educated. People have to acquire knowledge. For this reason, it has been said in the hadith, "It is obligatory on every man and woman to acquire knowledge." When it comes to men's education, women's education has also been mentioned. Hazrat Ayesha (RA), the wife of the Prophet (SAW), was the most educated woman at that time. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) instructed us to pay attention to the education of our daughters when we get married.
Women's education in social awareness: In order for any society to move forward towards development and progress, both men and women need to be aware of their rights and duties. Women's education can make women at all levels of society aware of their social rights and responsibilities.
Barriers to the spread of women's education: The issue of women's education is still very thorny in our society. The main obstacles in this case are as follows-
Lack of awareness: Lack of public awareness is the main obstacle to the spread of women's education. People are still unaware of the importance of women's education.
Child marriage: Girls are married at a young age. The parents arrange the marriage of the daughter before crossing the boundaries of the school so that it is not possible for one daughter to get the desired education.
Religious orthodoxy: Women are being deprived of education by misinterpreting religion. It is a sin for a woman to stay at home or for a woman to go out of the house.
Inferior people give birth to inferior offspring and, thus, propagate their inferiority. Inferior people give birth to inferior offspring and, thus, propagate their inferiority.
What we have to do to promote women's education: Our tasks to promote women's education are as follows-
Awareness raising: The importance of women's education should be understood and a campaign should be run among the people. Everyone needs to understand what kind of benefits will be gained by educating women and what will be the harm if they are not educated.
Change of mindset: Change of social attitude is needed to spread women's education.
We need to change the mentality of neglecting women or girls by thinking that women are better than men.
Religious leaders need to come forward: Religious orthodoxy is one of the reasons for women's backwardness in education. Religious leaders must come forward to eradicate this orthodoxy. Because ordinary people are more influenced by religious leaders.
Reduction of gender inequality: There should be no discrimination between men and women in education. Parents must come forward to educate all children, whether boys or girls.
Conclusion: There is no alternative to women's education for the overall progress of a society. Conventional meditation ideas and mentality are the biggest obstacles in the spread of women's education. In many cases, girls from remote villages and mobs who migrate to cities in the hope of higher education are disappointed. Long-term subject courses, housing problems, session clutter, social insecurity, etc. make students emotionally and financially distressed. So we have to remove all these obstacles and spread women's education with ourselves. And for this, women also have to come forward.
