Biden Regulations Not Horribly Destructive For Once? Image Source https://news.bitcoin.com/biden-administration-cryptocurrency-regulation-treasury-sec/ Well waking up to see huge pumps in the market such as Bitcoin up around 10%, LUNA pushing 25% gains, Ethereum up 8% and so on, it seems like the regulations announced by the Biden administration were not horrible for the markets. It seems that the announcement had two parts to it. The first part was a gaudy claim that the US wants to remain at the forefront of technological innovation and thus would want to support cryptocurrency as long as the users are being "protected". The second claims was that they would begin to research into the need for a central bank backed digital currency (CBDC). Consumer Protection I have always found consumer protection laws to be very "big brother" in nature. I think that it would be great to have protection from rug-pulls or something where you get scammed in crypto, but we need to think about what we would be giving up for that protection to be implemented. When you look at something like FDIC protection in the banks, you are giving up a lot of information to the bank and government about how much money you have access to, you are giving up physical custody of those assets and you are risking that you'll be able to get those funds out when you want (this may not happen because of asset seizure or bank runs, etc.). When the Biden administration announces that they want to promote cryptocurrency use but protect consumers with regulations, it feels a bit like a utopian ideal that isn't quite possible in cryptocurrency. The very freedoms that bring value to cryptocurrency come with the risk of absolutely screwing up sometimes. Self-custody is a slippery slope where one letter wrong in a send address will cause permanent loss of funds. Canceled transactions can stack up heavy fees that will never come back. You may find yourself in a scam or two. However, through all of this, at the end of the day it comes down to you and you alone making decisions. These "protections" may come with a slew of freedoms being confiscated "for your own good" which is a terrifying concept after seeing how poorly the world has handled itself throughout its history. Not sure I like this announcement honestly. CBDC Risks Before reading up on what they actually do, I think that I was a supporter of the idea of a CBDC for the sole purpose that an entire government would be getting involved with digital currency. Now after doing some research on it and watching events play out around the world, I am very fearful of how a CBDC would impact financial freedom in American (or wherever it is implemented). With a CBDC, the liquid assets of the nation move away from cash and towards something that is completely digital. Though this may make things more convenient than cash does in terms of fumbling through a wallet to pull it out, it comes with a ton of control risks. If the government issues CBDC's, they would also have a registry that shows the balances of each citizen; sure they have this now with checking and savings accounts but those only serve as general estimates as citizens can still hold cash or other liquid assets. We just watched in Canada as the government froze access to bank accounts by partnering with the banks to do espionage on their customers in the name of the "safety" of the nation. Now imagine that rather than going through the banks (who could have put up a little bit of a fight if they actually gave a damn about their clients) they are just able to go into a registry and freeze the assets of citizens that they can define as criminals, terrorists, or anything they want to justify the seizure of assets. Of course these are things that are already happening without CBDC's, but we need to think about just how easy it would become to oppress citizens if everything were completely digital. I would be wary of the Biden administration working on a CBDC and pray that businesses will accept cryptocurrency as payment in the future (which I believe they will). Every day, cryptocurrency becomes closer to being the only safe haven in financial assets; of course there are financial risks to investing, I am simply using safe haven to refer to something that can't be frozen or confiscated... Just think about it. Getting In Early MATTERS - Yield Farming The Launch With the launch of Polycub from the @leofinance team, I did what I could to scrape together some money to put into the new farms that were launched to generate Polycub rewards. Though I wasn't able to get massive funds over there, the HUGE APR that we see when a liquidity pool first gets itself started is just insanity. https://leofinance.io/@leofinance The Farms The farms are paying well above 5000% APR at the moment There are also Kingdoms staking options where your investment auto-compounds as well as a Polycub single asset staking option. The mind-blowing thing about getting in early is simply what types of wild earning you are able to make right off the bat. I've pulled in roughly $5 of Polycub through the farms in the last 12 hours or so. This doesn't sound impressive of course looking at total value, but when you factor in that I've invested roughly $50, that is a 10% return on investment in a 12 hour span... Something that will continue (though begin diminishing) as time continues. The Future Of course the value of Polycub will logically fluctuate with the supply and will likely be heading down for a bit until it finds a bottom. With that being said, the project has some burning mechanisms in place and I am here for the long haul, so the dollar value over the next few weeks is not so important to me. The APR is important to me, and though it will continue to drop as more liquidity is added to each farm and investment vehicle, my experience with DeFi in the past tells me that it will still yield very lucrative returns (especially in comparison to traditional financial assets/investments) going forward. DeFi is all about trusting the team that is running your project. Being that I am a regular user of @leofinance and that the future of web 3.0 and Hive is bright, I just simply can't see the team wanting to rug pull or do anything shady. With the amount of potential for earnings for everyone (including the dev team) in the future, it is in their best interest to make this project the best they can rather than a quick hit and run. https://leofinance.io/@leofinance We don't have the liquidity as a community yet for the devs to make big money screwing us over, and when we do have that liquidity they will be mind-blowingly rich... This feels like a case where the team is set to succeed with the community; that's the main reason I am using and will continue to use their DeFi platforms! Do your own research, but check out cubfinance and polycub before you miss these insane APR returns! World Events Are Driving Crypto Demand Image Source https://keydifferences.com/difference-between-demand-and-supply.html For the life of me, I still can't understand why cryptocurrency (mainly BTC and ETH) are correlated to the general market patterns of the stock market. Of course things don't move at a perfect 1:1 ratio, but when the markets are crashing, that plays into the market moments of cryptocurrencies. To me, it feels like people still don't really understand what it is they are purchasing when they get involved with cryptocurrency and are rather just simply speculating like they would with stocks and options. The reason that I can't understand it is because when used with non-custodial wallets such as hardware wallets and software wallets like Trustwallet, cryptocurrencies act as a hedge against governmental regulation/controls. We saw in Canada just recently that the government can make it impossible for you to use your money through traditional outlets and we are seeing Russian citizens getting hit with every economic hardship possible. Life is becoming very difficult for the average citizen who had nothing to do with the decisions of their government and the only way they can access their funds is if it was in a crypto wallet that was not on an exchange, or if they stocked up on foreign currencies (though Putin made it illegal to hold over $10,000 worth of foreign currencies, thus hindering that option). As a result of this, I'm not quite sure why we aren't slowly seeing cryptocurrencies move with a negative correlation to traditional assets. Once again, I am not expecting to ever see a completely negative correlation as many people are buying crypto as a speculative asset, but we've seen enough turmoil and restrictions to justify the coins being looked at for their true use case - immutable money not tethered or controlled by any singular entity. I think that there is a chance that maybe the world is just not yet ready to see these assets for what they truly are and that those of us that are involved in learning about them every day are maybe a few years ahead in this thinking. With all the restrictions we have seen (from nations at war and from "democratic" nations in times of peace), there is a massive need to plan ahead and secure your financial future. If you have your whole life tethered to an entity (i.e. government or institution) that you don't control, you are running the risk of allowing someone else's decision to determine your future... Not financial advice, but I personally won't trust the government with my life; even in times of peace. Will Splinterlands Eventually Become a Metaverse Game? I was just thinking about Splinterlands and how we still don't know all the details about what exactly people will be able to do with the land plots that have been purchased. I know that you will be able to create and sell in-game items and there will be an additional level of gameplay within battles as a result, but I am just thinking of all the possibilities for what to do with that land going forward. We see games like Decentraland and The Sandbox already allowing you to walk around in a free-flowing style and explore their NFT-powered metaverse landscapes. I am wondering if this will ever be the case in Splinterlands. I can imagine a day where you are able to travel to anyones plot of land and there will be different gameplay options happening there. A list of some ideas that I was thinking and I hope the team employs in some way: Allowing players to host tournaments at their land plots and make fees off of it. Allowing players to open up digital stores at their plots. Allowing for players to display artwork or build on their land in an artistic way that cannot be destroyed by other players. The opening of some type of mini-game style game that can only be accessed through metaverse style play. Chat and voicechat functions to communicate with nearby players. It is so weird to think about the fact that every day we are moving closer to living in a reality that is completely digital, yet here we are. I hope that we never reach a point that everything happens online, gaming and social-fi are one thing, but the concept of the metaverse allows for so much creativity I'm worried people won't want to leave! I am convinced that the Splinterlands team have something big in store for us with the eventual land implementation. Things seem to be just getting started for Splinterlands and the rest of the Hive ecosystem. A Little A Day Goes A Long Way I do what I can to get out and post something each day on Hive, Read.cash and Publish0x. I genuinely enjoy the writing and really want to grow my presence in these communities as we move towards the mainstream adoption of web 3.0; the rewards that are earned are a nice bonus, but I'm here because I want to get involved ahead of the curve. My goals on all of these applications as a result of that thinking is to gain followers and engage with a few new people as often as I can. I have been working at it for over a year now, and I am really happy with how far I've come. Growing Followers Of course when you start on any site, you are starting from zero (well... 25 on Hive lol). It's actually quite democratizing in a sense because nobody gets to start ahead of the pack through things like a pre-mine or pre-made account with followers. You may have some influence on other sites, but it is not necessary at all in order to get yourself going on web 3.0. All you really need to do is show up and put in some quality thought and effort. It comes up often, but it is such an important point: the most successful people on Hive or any web 3.0 platform aren't necessarily award winning authors or scientists. Rather, the people that find success are the one's who put the time and effort in and grow their accounts through daily work and investment. Of course not everything is easy and it isn't all roses and rainbows, but you don't need anything but a computer and an internet connection to make it on web 3.0. It feels so opposite to the rest of the experiences we have in the world, where connections and nepotism are often valued more than talent and effort. Web 3.0 is the fresh start that we needed for social media. Stacking and Compounding Gains Looking at stacking rewards, getting involved every day naturally will grow your opportunities for earning as you are talking to more people who all have the ability to upvote/like/share your post. If you are able to make a few dollars a day and reinvest them into your platform, you will start to make a few more dollars and now after a year, I am finding that I am making an average of $10 or so a day between all platforms. This may not be a ton of money in absolute value, but I am able to reinvest it and eventually I'll start averaging $15 a day... Then $20... Then onwards. It just takes patience and consistent effort to give yourself a chance to experience the magic of compounding and a growing social network. When looking at Hive specifically, the compounding effect is wildly important as your curation on other posts not only makes you money, but makes people more eager to engage with you (as they will know they will get a response if you are active and make it worth their efforts). I try to do what I can to answer every comment and reply that I get, even if it takes me longer than I would like sometimes. It is all about engaging and making connections that we would have never been able to make without the platform. Why pass up the opportunity to grow, earn and learn for free? Web 3.0 is the future. The Lifechanging Money Is Coming! Image Source The source article was written by @bitcoinflood https://www.1up.zone/@bitcoinflood/how-to-best-prepare-for-the-launch-of-polycub https://leofinance.io/@bitcoinflood Let's Go As I said yesterday, the Polycub airdrop is coming to the @leofinance and Cub Finance communities. It seems like I timed that post well as the airdrop details came out shortly after my post yesterday. https://leofinance.io/@leofinance My takeaway is quite simple: All those people saying life changing money was coming through Hive and @leofinance... Well I think they were right. https://leofinance.io/@leofinance When that post came out, I immediately started playing this song and was subsequently correct with that as well as the Leo token started pumping in the Hive-Engine market: That song is an absolute hit and I know it has been used in a lot of the Wojak videos to signal huge gains coming to his crypto portfolio.. It seems like the same is true for members of these communities. What Is Happening? Basically there is a 60 day airdrop with daily snapshots for CUB holders in either the CUB Kingdom or either the CUB-BUSD or CUB-BNB Farms. Users will be getting an airdrop of PolyCub, a Polygon-network based CUB token. They are adopting the same type of strategy that Splinterlands is employing with the SPS airdrop in that your daily balance will determine how much your airdrop is for the next day rather than just having a singular snapshot. Broader Outlook The fact that the airdrop is happening over a period of 60 days is not only a brilliant idea from a marketing perspective, but also gives some of the smaller fish a chance to accumulate the capital they need to get involved. Not everyone will be able to throw $1,000 in on the first day of the airdrop, but it is much more attainable for someone to add $15-$20 on a daily basis (or at whatever rate they'd like), so it is allowing people to participate without having a huge stack of initial capital. From a marketing perspective, this is an airdrop you get to claim 60 times. That is just pretty cool... It isn't one and done, you have the ability to add to your bags and get more just like everyone else! In the future, if this is successful we may see this done with all types of network integrations. The one that comes to mind for me is the Thorchain network... THORCUB? That sounds like my kind of token. I'll start adding to my bags now, you guys have convinced me, well done! Don't Forget About Cub Finance! A Confession One thing that I am guilty of is falling behind a bit on the concept of liquidity farming and decentralized finance. Though I think it is the future of the financial sector, my focus has shifted towards web 3.0 concepts that aren't necessarily about banking. That changed today as I've gotten back into DeFi with Cub Finance. Though it's not tons of money (because I simply do not have tons of money), I have made an investment in the CUB-BNB liquidity pool! Summary If you forget what Cub Finance is all about, let me give you a quick summary: Cub Finance is a Binance-Smart-Chain powered liquidity pool and farming DeFi site. This means that when you deposit funds (available in numerous forms) you generate a return from the liquidity (i.e. gas fees) fees in ratio to how much capital you have put up. By providing this capital and waiting over a period of time you can gain CUB tokens and even other tokens like BUSD or CAKE using the farms available. Why I'm Back The reason that I've jumped back in now with Cub Finance is because I had stored up a little bit of capital and want to get that working for me. Additionally, the team has announced that they are coming out with another great innovation: the Polycub token. This will be a CUB token that functions on the Polygon (MATIC) network, a network that I am personally expecting to play a huge role in crypto in the next few years with their great scaling solutions. Of course there are risks involved such as impermanent loss (a whole tangent, but something you need to check out if you are getting into DeFi), but with APR for my chosen farm hanging out around 125%, I am very interested in getting some funds into play. I mainly used Cub Finance for a quick cash cow in the beginning when the token was pumping, however I now recognize this was a mistake. Though it was nice to make a few quick dollars with the massive rates of return a new liquidity pool provides, had I just left those funds in and kept them working, I would be in an awesome position now (almost a year later???) to benefit from these upcoming platform innovations. Cub Finance is sticking around a lot longer than other DeFi platforms and has gained my respect as a viable investment option. Do your own research, but if you are in the market for a DeFi play, don't let this one simply fly under your radar! Excitement On Hive There are so many great projects coming out in the Hive ecosystem. We have games, DeFi projects, sports platforms and more coming up and it is an exciting time to get involved with as much as you can! I will be doing everything I can to get funds into these new projects as we are bound to have one hit a home run! State of The Union Inflation and Propaganda image source https://www.reuters.com/world/us/four-takeaways-bidens-first-state-union-speech-2022-03-02/ I usually pride myself on being apolitical. There's typically very little positive that can come out of a debate on a politically charged topic in the United States because of the way the two party system has positioned us to act as party-zealots that attempt to strengthen their own points by putting the other side down regardless of the merit of their statements. With that being said, seeing that we are tip-toeing around the start of a major world war, I figured that I should tune in to see what the most powerful government in the free world was saying about the state of our union. Well... I can say that was a huge waste of time. I'll actually skip talking about what he said regarding Russia and Ukraine as it felt very unproductive and more sensationalist than anything tangible to educate me on the topic. The things that bothered me the most about the night were Biden's reflections on the economy of the United States and the general theatrics of the address itself. The Theatrics The absolute worst part of the State of The Union was the incessant clapping at literally any point that was made. The world is going to shit, the economy is heading towards rock bottom, but because Biden has added the most jobs in the history of the United States in a one year period (due to the fact that everyone was unemployed due to Covid and are now just returning to work) we needed to sit through around 15 minutes of clapping in a 45 minute address. The speech also took around 7 or 8 minutes after the hour to get started because our politicians decided they needed to walk the aisle like it was a wedding and stop for a maskless handshake with all of their friends before sitting socially distanced to listen to the speech... It's just an incredible amount of hypocrisy that I cannot believe the general public takes on the chin. Despite all the theatrics and time wasting, I would be much more willing to allow it if anything actually got done and helped out the nation, instead it feels like all of this is a longterm plan to try to win the next election. This cycle just feels repetitive and pointless. The Economy The worst quote of the night came when Biden addressed the state of our economy. One-third of all of the inflation was because of automobile sales. There weren’t enough semiconductors to make all the cars that people wanted to buy. This is a word for word quote from the transcript. The State of The Union. From the most powerful leader in the free world... We have massive rates of inflation rarely seen before in our history because... of car sales. What about the endless printing, lending, bailouts of multi-billion dollar corporations, stimulus bills, etc.? It just feels insulting to get up there and tell a bold-faced lie to the entire world about why everything in our country costs so much now. I was just absolutley taken aback by this. He then went on to say how the United States will be positioning itself to produce semiconductors by building a multi billion dollar city to support 10k jobs to build these. Each of these jobs will be paying over 135k a year according to Biden... Well that feels like it will make it quite difficult to make these semiconductors affordably. As happy as I'd be to see thousands of people making a great amount of money like that, it is a bit difficult to picture a world where we aren't getting massively undercut by other nations that produce these semiconductors (i.e. China) without the help of government subsidies and aid to the businesses... So unless they are running at a massive loss, the brunt of the cost for this competition will fall on the taxpayer... In the end, it felt like this whole speech was just a gaudy way of telling us that we will all be paying more money for everything and that our taxes will be getting hiked through the roof... Though he claims that nobody making less than 400k a year will be paying any new taxes, that gives him a lot of verbal space to work by say... increasing our existing taxes in dollar amount. Just once, I want to have a government that tells it how it is. This is of course a ridiculous request in our current system as that politician would simply not be elected because the other side will promise gold and sunshine and rainbows and the majority would obviously rather have that dream than our reality. In my opinion, the state of the Union is very bleak a this current moment in time. The Hive Backed Dollar - An Improving Investment Image Source @doze https://peakd.com/@doze/hive-backed-dollar-hbd https://leofinance.io/@doze The Issue One of the problems that I had with the Hive Backed Dollar when I first started on Hive was that it seemed to be wildly inconsistent though it was meant to be a stablecoin pegged to the $1 mark. This is what it was looking like over the last year: Seeing price jumps from double the intended value all the way down to 13-14% below the intended value brought a bit too much volatility to the HBD as a savings mechanism. However, over the last few months, things are starting to really come together for the stablecoin alongside an increased interest rate to 12% APY on HBD held in savings. Here is what it has looked like: This is of course still not quite ideal, but things are getting much tighter than they have been in the past and it looks like this is getting closer to becoming a "safe" investment by the day (safe in quotes because all cryptocurrency carries inherent risk). So should you be investing? I am of course not qualified to give investment advice, but I feel confident that if Hive is to become a successful and pivotal part of the web 3.0 revolution, the Hive Backed Dollar has an important role to play. Thus, it is in the best interest of the ecosystem to put measures in place to control the stablecoin's volatility as well as possible. If the interest rate of 12% is to remain consistent and the HBD can start to mirror UST or other stablecoins in valuation (holding the peg) then I believe this will be a great place to park some savings in the future. There is still work to be done, but I am a supporter of the Hive Backed Dollar and believe that receiving half of your blog post earnings on Hive as HBD will prove to be a source of steady passive income if done right! Let me know what you all think of this stablecoin and what needs to happen for it to play an important role in the cryptocurrency space. Self Custody Is Improving My Cryptocurrency Experience image source https://ssi-ambassador.medium.com/mapping-the-self-custody-wallet-ecosystem-for-digital-assets-non-custodial-6992229316d1 Everyone is always talking about "not your keys, not your crypto", and rightfully so. As I've brought up quite often, exchanges are now becoming one of the biggest marks on the radars of governments in terms of things to control. Exchanges are mostly powerless to government demands as they are following the laws and regulations of the nation that they are licensed in (we are talking about centralized exchanges here of course). Due to things like KYC and geo-location requirements, governments have a pretty good idea of who is doing what and where they are doing it from, if they need to sanction you or control your funds to push forward their political ideals (Russia and Canada), there is nothing the exchange can do to protect your funds you have stored there. Take this tweet from Kraken as an example: For them to function without being deemed money launderers or enablers of criminal activity in the nations they are operating in, they are forced to comply with law enforcement requests at all times. Kraken and their CEO have been wildly open about this and are showing that it is really beyond their control, it is up to the individual to custody their funds if they don't want to risk having their assets frozen. Of course, the freezing of assets in a western democracy that is functioning with the freedoms guaranteed by their constitution in mind... But as we've seen that is a utopian ideal and we are really living with much less freedom than we realize. So if it is up to you, what do you need? Very simple - your own cryptocurrency wallets. There are many options including hardware and software wallets, but as long as you are holding your own keys and not logging in with email and password somewhere, the odds are pretty good that you will be in control of your own finances. A government cannot freeze your assets if they cannot access them (unless they come and physically confiscate your wallet... something that should never happen in our world, but is something we also need to prepare for). Additionally, other than plotting for safety against corrupt governments or criminals/hackers, being responsible for the custody of your own crypto presents a lot of short term benefits. For one, you will have assurance that there is more than an email and password guess in the way of you losing your hard earned funds. Additionally, I have been keeping my wallet somewhere that is not physically close to me and that has presented me with a great savings mechanism to avoid temptations like short term spending or wasting it on vices. You can't trigger any transactions without the wallet, so by putting physical distance between it and myself, I am already seeing my savings build at a steady (though admittedly slow) rate. There are of course risks to self-custody including sending your money to the wrong place or forgetting your seed phrase, so there are definitely safety measures to keep in mind. At the end of the day however, the peace of mind knowing that things are up to me and not up to an entity beyond my control is worth the risk of making a mistake with my money. The Dangerous Mix of Cryptocurrency and Politics Image Source https://morningconsult.com/2021/12/08/cryptocurrency-regulation-polling/ It has been an awesome thing to see how cryptocurrency has played a positive role in supporting the nation of Ukraine as they have been invaded by Russia. The ability to crowdfund from regular citizens has proven to be a viable initiative and though it isn't the billions that governments are sending, it has a more personal feeling of unity and public support. With that being said, it does feel like cryptocurrency is being viewed by governments in a way that goes agains the nature of the currencies themselves. To me it seems like governments are ok with the anonymity and unstoppable nature, but only when it serves the purposes they support. When it goes against them, governments are seeking to put restrictions on exchanges and the wallets that support these currencies to make them just about the same as cash in the bank. The Good: The world is coming together to support a great cause and are donating funds across borders with no network restrictions while the traditional banking system is stuck because of the war. The Bad (?): Innocent civilians are getting caught in the financial fallout as governments are using their leverage over exchanges to make them mirror traditional financial institutions. Looking at the situation, of course I wouldn't want the Russians to have the funding to continue to wage war against Ukraine, but when looking at the fact that this is now becoming a precedent (i.e. here and in Canada just last week) it feels like the government is doing everything they can to take the main use case of cryptocurrency away. It is something that is quite uncomfortable to think about and is why people are always saying to get your coins off of exchanges and that if you don't own your keys you don't own your crypto. It's food for thought, but as politicians get more and more involved with cryptocurrency it is seeming to set up a slippery slope. Surely the next steps away from wartime conflict will be CBDC implementation and the stripping away of cash throughout the world; be mindful of where you store your cryptocurrency as the government involvement will likely only increase. A War Of Disinformation Image Source: NATO For one reason or another, I was unable to blog on my birthday or the day after... But I missed Web 3.0 and it felt weird not putting anything out for the last 48 hours, glad to be back here! Well the world is in complete chaos financially and diplomatically. One thing that has been happening for a while, but is something that shocks me is the amount of confusion that can be created by impersonating or hacking a social figure/collective online. Today, I was reading up on how numerous groups in Ukraine are asking for cryptocurrency donations as the banking system has been affected by the war and it is becoming increasingly difficult to access funds in the country. As a result, there are tons of donations flooding into the nation in the form of BTC, ETH and other cryptocurrencies. One important thing to remember is that cryptocurrency addresses don't have a name linked to them and that means that you need to be certain of where you are sending funds before actually triggering your transactions (no trusted third party in a basic transaction). There have been reports that there have been some accounts asking for donations that were being run by hackers or other entities that would not be sending the money to the desired end location. Vitalik just tweeted about this today: The account that he is referencing is this one: I'm seeing more tweets that are saying that the account has been verified to be the real addresses, but honestly how can we tell? Maybe those accounts were hacked as well. A blue checkmark is not guaranteeing credibility like they were meant to. The worst part about this is that if those accounts are indeed the real donation accounts for the Ukranian government, then they are missing out on millions of dollars of aid due to fear that it might be going to the wrong place. War with weapons is obviously more threatening to physical lives, but this is the first time in modern history where you can get an endless feedback loop of disinformation and have no way of confidently deciphering what is real and what is not. Propaganda or disinformation has been used throughout history, but this time around it feels more dangerous as a guy in his basement in Minnesota could have the same reach as the government of an entire nation. It's honestly terrifying. If there is a verifiable way that blockchain could solve this war of disinformation, I think it would be the most useful invention of the modern era. Technology has provided us with a dual-edged sword for connecting and staying informed on what is happening in our world. Could Society Cure The Plague of Bureaucracy? image source https://www.cafepress.com/+no_bureaucracy_wall_clock,167993379 Bureaucracy Is Slowing Everything Down Of course the day after I write about making sure you write your articles at a certain time every day, I end up writing my stuff two hours later than I usually do... I had to do so much paperwork for my upcoming job and it just makes me hope that one day we live in a world where the bureaucracy and paperwork stop getting in the way of people's progression through their lives... Wishful thinking I'm sure. I would love to imagine a world where we treat the hiring process the same way that Decentralized Finance has treated the trading process. You don't need to prove who you are in order to participate in the collective, you just need the basic tools (i.e. a wallet) to participate. Other than regulatory requirements in the country they are licensed in, there is no need to have KYC like a centralized exchange has. KYC is used for tracking transactions to be taxed, and I personally think that the excuse that KYC helps to fight against crime is a lame excuse at best. I've seen exchanges come out and say that the KYC requirements will help to fight against money laundering and criminal activities like that of the Silk Road... Yet the US government never says anything about how cash is king in the world of black markets and illicit activities. What would removing background checks/ID Paperwork do for businesses? Well if this were the case, there would logically be people working in the positions that may not have gotten the positions otherwise (i.e. former or current criminals). However, if there were no identification factors involved in the hiring process, people that are most deserving of the job would get it because businesses would have to use hiring practices that objectively measure performance (i.e. a skills test or written interviews). It is my opinion that we are living in a world where everyone is seeking to know literally everything about everyone at every single given moment. In reality, I believe that the world would function much better through objectivity and anonymity. If someone is doing the job better than others, they should get it and they should keep it until an objective reason for their removal came up for the company (i.e. a lack of hitting performance objectives). It sounds like a cold and disconnected world if you're looking at it in a certain light, but it also sounds like a world free from nepotism, pointless paperwork and exclusionary hiring practices... A tradeoff I would personally be willing to take. I'm sure that you are able to think of reasons why this would backfire, and I'm sure that I could too if I really wanted to, but we live in a world where anonymity is possible due to remote work and if businesses want to really function based on the principles our economy has laid forth, they should always be looking to hire the best candidate and the circumstances shouldn't much matter. What do you think? Is getting rid of paperwork and the onboarding/hiring process something that could benefit society? Make Blogging A Routine Image Source: Nike There have been a ton of things in my life that I have tried to do consistently and then eventually lost interest. I used to try to run every day... That didn't turn out well. I used to try doing a few hours of JavaScript practice each day and then that fell off. I've tried to meditate each day, but some days go by and then it's midnight and if I meditate I might as well sleep. One thing that I've never had a problem with getting done each day is writing a blog post or at least a string of comments on Hive. I really thought about why that is the case. Sure, I actually enjoy putting something out and seeing how members of the community engage with my thoughts, but I also realized that it is something that is ingrained into my daily habit loop. Every morning, I have been waking up and fasting until noon. Looking back, I realize that not only has this changed my dietary habits, but it has changed my daily activities as well. I am weirdly more productive before I've eaten because my body is used to writing my posts for the day before I have anything to eat. Obviously I'm not going out and recommending you fast for all of your Hive posts, but rather I am showing that if you have a dedicated routine where you end up doing something specific like getting it done before you go to work or getting it done during a specific period of time, it feels like it is more likely to get done. As much as you may love writing posts, there will be those days where you are feeling less than productive. If you are on a powerful habit loop, it won't matter what the outside factors are (for the most part, obviously there will be emergency exceptions) you will get your objectives done consistently. It's actually quite laughable to say that I get done a few hundred words of writing each day before even considering eating, but hey... Here I am. I've been trying to post daily and have nailed that for about the last month I believe with only missing a few days here and there from traveling or some family emergencies. As I said yesterday, I am not a professional writer, nor do my topics mesh together. I am here because I enjoy it and because it is a part of my daily routine. I have loved the structure of getting something out there for y'all to engage with and hope it will remain a part of my life for years to come. Taking Formality Out Of Blogging = Genius of Web 3.0 image source https://learntalk.org/en/blog/a-quick-introduction-to-formal-and-informal-english One misconception that I always had about blogs was that they were supposed to follow some kind of professional or almost formal structure. Of course you can find all kind of blogs out there that use informal language or bounce off topics we'd deem conversational, but there was always an aura that a successful blog was one that was well designed and required quite a bit of work. That misconception was absolutely smashed when I came to Hive and web 3.0. Of course there are people putting out excellent content every single day, but there is absolutely no structure or expectations about what denotes a blog here. There are long posts, short posts, shitposts, reflections, interviews, contests, debates, and more and they all fall under this branch of blogging. Having a site like @leofinance, @dunksocial or any of the other Hive dApps or read.cash or publish0x allows users a topical blanket under-which they can write about whatever they want, however they want. Everyone posts something that is remarkably different (even different from day to day for that specific individual) and it doesn't much matter because it is about what is being said rather than how it is being displayed or shown. There is still room for marketing and establishing a brand of sorts on here, but it is no longer a requirement to get yourself off the ground. https://leofinance.io/@leofinance https://leofinance.io/@dunksocial It makes me happy that all I need to do is log on and start typing whatever comes to mind to share with the community and stay engaged. I don't have to worry about very much at all (other than burning through trillions of resource credits that I never will fully deplete). Earning from sharing and generating ideas will prove to be incredibly valuable as a platform concept in the future, and I am happy to be a part of it. I try to read blogs each day, small and big accounts, short and long posts of all different topics. It's interesting the diversity and width we are able to get under the umbrella of "finance" or "sports" or anything. Hive and web 3.0 is the future, let's keep it going. Chainlink Flying Under Many Radars image source https://cryptosrus.com/chainlink-is-soaring-finally-up-40-percent-in-a-week/chainlink-logo/ One cryptocurrency that I feel like is never talked about enough despite the fact that it has a ton of use cases is Chainlink. It is one that I think will be around for many years to come and has a ton of potential to be involved with some of the biggest businesses in the world. What Is Chainlink? Here is an excerpt from their site: "Chainlink greatly expands the capabilities of smart contracts by enabling access to real-world data and off-chain computation while maintaining the security and reliability guarantees inherent to blockchain technology." In layman's terms, Chainlink helps to enable tons of different smart contract use cases by connecting real world/business data into the code of the contract. This makes Chainlink an "oracle" protocol and it is known as the industry standard for those. Why I Like The Crypto: The reason that I love Chainlink is because it is one of those projects where the use case can be easily understood by people outside of the cryptocurrency space. By providing a bridge between a crypto project and real world data such as stock prices, transactions, newsfeeds, etc. it shows a tangible way to integrate data that people already understand and interact with. The basic boomer on wall street may not understand a protocol coming out on a blockchain, but they can understand that using chainlink will help the data they understand reach that next phase of technological growth (of course with the help of some devs because they surely won't learn smart contract coding... probably). With the 30 trillion dollars on wall street, I think that the future of cryptocurrency will be greatly helped by integrations of some type. Oracles will play an essential role in that and Chainlink is the oracle to have right now. I think that this token could be a huge part of the growth of the industry. What's Happening In Canada Is Not Ok. Whether or not you agree with the movement that the trucker's convoy in Ottawa is fighting for, we have to look at the situation from a wider view and realize all the dangerous things that are happening. Living in 2022, hypocrisy and tyranny look a lot different than they used to. Being a "free" and "democratic" nation seems to basically just be an excuse for why it's ok to do terrible things to their citizens in the name of maintaining law and order. It won't happen (I hope) that a country like Canada would just throw protestors in a long term political prison, but they currently have the ability to make things feel like a prison on the outside. We've seen police brutality and unjust enforcement before from "free" nations, but this time it's going a step further down the path of wildly irrational hypocrisy. From what I have seen, it seems like the Canadian government has put out sweeping orders to be able to freeze the finances of anyone that disagrees with them or "dissents" against law and order. Once again, whether or not you agree with the protest is irrelevant; we are watching one of the most powerful and connected nations in the world publicly restrict the rights of their own citizens. The government has now given financial institutions the power to freeze accounts for any reason at all with no repercussions for them and provided addresses and cryptocurrency addresses (on exchanges) to these institutions to give them the ability to figure out if anyone has donated money to a cause they don't agree with. If this becomes a precedent for governments, they can silence any protest and silence their citizens by limiting the resources they have access to. In a movement of any kind, funding is an essential part to keeping the movement going, whether it is advertising or simply just feeding the protestors. The government now has come out and said that if you believe in this cause, you better figure out how to live with no money. I just can't believe what I'm watching. This will have massive impacts of financial institutions around the world as people will stop trusting their funds to centralized entities. We could see bank runs, revolts, and more happening all around the world as governments fail to condemn these policies. It's just absolutely tone deaf to me that the Canadian government thinks this is a good policy for a free nation to implement. I hope the backlash for the political careers of everyone involved is immense. Money is unfortunately power. It may not be the most important thing in life, but in the modern world if you are cut off from it, you're pretty much screwed. We can't let what is happening in Canada fall on deaf ears. What Is Fantom Protocol? Yesterday on Publish0x, the tips for FARM were replaced by Statera. According to their website, Statera "is a smart contract powered Indexed Deflationary Ecosystem, which synergizes with a trustless and community-driven portfolio of class-leading cryptocurrencies." In other words, this token creates deflation within liquidity pools to provide more arbitrage opportunities and thus increases volume as those gaps are filled by traders and bots. It is powered by the Fantom network, but here is a bit about Statera before moving onto that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnktiSnUlm0 https://www.youtube.com/embed/rnktiSnUlm0 Now lets talk about the network that is powering this project, the Fantom Protocol: Here is an overview from Messari: "Fantom is a Layer-1 blockchain that uses a single consensus layer to support the creation of multiple execution chains. The network's independent consensus layer called Lachesis, featuring a novel consensus mechanism developed by the Fantom Foundation dubbed the "Lachesis Protocol." Lachesis can provide security to multiple other layers, the first of which is Fantom's EVM-compatible smart contract chain called Opera. The project's goal is to host an ecosystem of execution layers while enabling them to feature fast and cost-efficient transactions due to the benefits provided by the Lachesis Protocol." Essentially Fantom is another DeFi ecosystem that is seeking to reduce fees by using this multi-layer approach. Will it work? I have no clue, but I am interested in finding out more as the governance token is trading for just under $2 currently. If anyone has some good references for Fantom, I would love to check them out and dive deeper. The swaps and projects that I see right now look interesting, but they don't seem to have a lot of traction as an ecosystem. It seems to be a promising protocol and I'm happy to be exploring it with the new tipping token from Publish0x. How Likely Is It To Run Into A Hive User? When I am out doing something like lifting at the gym or sitting at a cafe, I will often take a look at my phone and check to see what is going on on @leofinance and what notifications I have for my account. When I do this, I often wonder exactly how many people are on Hive and whether anyone passing by around me would recognize the site that I was on. https://peakd.com/@leofinance Spoiler alert, it's unlikely. It hasn't happened yet, but I'm waiting for the day that someone taps me on the shoulder and says "hey, is that Hive?", or "is that X dApp from the Hive blockchain?". It got me thinking, what is the actual likelihood of that happening? I couldn't find the full numbers anywhere, but it looks like we have approximately 400,000 accounts registered on Hivebuzz. That doesn't seem right to me either, because if Splinterlands has so many users signing up, they should all theoretically have a Hive account as well, but let's just use it as a thought experiment. So if there are 400,000 people in the world who have Hive accounts, that would mean that 0.00005063291% of the world population has a Hive account. Those odds don't seem great to bump into someone on the street that will know that you are @rob23, that guy who rambles about a bunch of non-connected financial topics every day. https://peakd.com/@rob23 To put this another way, approximately one of every 19,750 people that you walk by will be a user on Hive... Well I guess you better start showing your screen to every person to figure out which of them have Hive accounts lol. Though it is statistically unlikely to find a fellow web 3.0 enthusiast on the street, a glass half full approach to this situation provides a ton of positives. Since so few people are currently using this platform, that means that you are early to it and that you have a chance to grow your personal account in tangent with the platform at large. If Hive is to become a successful/integral part of the future of social media and the internet as we are all gambling that it is, then we are a part of the founding community of something huge (yes, even those of us who came to the platform a year later than others). If Hive is successful and you are here right now, odds are you will be pretty successful as well with it. Imagine the day where it isn't one in 19,750 people that know what Hive is, but say one in 10,000 or one in 1,000. The growth will be absolutely enormous if that happens! Just keep posting and don't stop believing that we have something special here! SPS Bouncing Back! As a great prophet once said: "Last night took an L but tonight I'll bounce back" - Big Sean... SPS has made a real comeback push in terms of price and the momentum seems to be fueled by the many market catalysts including the Waka Flocka summoner needing to be bought in SPS and vouchers. I still believe that we won't see massive price spikes (i.e. a push for 50 cents or 1 dollar) until the end of the airdrop period simply from a supply and demand perspective: the supply will continue to increase until that point is reached and thus theoretically should be decreasing in value (though I know there are other variables blah blah). Seeing SPS price jumping a bit is always good for morale, things can get a bit repetitive when you are claiming your rewards each day and it becomes easy to forget that this could be a very strong long term investment when you're only claiming 30-50 cents each day. Splinterlands mirrors the rest of the Hive blockchain in the sense that it is a compounding machine (I believe @taskmaster4450le and @jfang003 have used this description). By staking your SPS you are generating slightly more staking rewards each time and hopefully by the end of this airdrop period you will have hit your goals! I'm rapidly approaching mine, I might have to restrategize as I plan on buying some assets in the game next month and will hopefully increase my airdrop quota as a result. https://leofinance.io/@taskmaster4450le https://leofinance.io/@jfang003 The futures of Splinterlands and SPS are bright, I just wanted to share some positive news to remind everyone to keep on going! Recurring Investment Fees - An Exchange Experiment Image Source https://www.savingadvice.com/articles/2021/06/14/1083731_recurring-investment-strategies.html I have been writing a lot about how I plan on doing recurring investments with the start of my new job. Now looking at the situation practically, one thing that I am concerned about is how much I will have to end up paying in fees if I continually reinvest. Of course there are a ton of different options, but today I'm just going to take a look at the apps that I have on my phone and see what everything would cost. For this, I will be checking to see what the cost to buy $200 of Bitcoin with a linked debit card would be and see what the fees would add up to after doing this for a year. Coinbase When buying $200 of BTC on Coinbase, I would have to pay $2.99 in fees. This would equate to $155.48 of fees after a year. Uphold When buying $200 of BTC on Uphold, I would have to pay a 3.99% card fee, which would be $7.98. This would equate to $414.96 of fees after a year. CashApp When buying $200 of BTC on CashApp, I would have to pay $4 in fees. This would equate to $208 in fees after a year. Strike When buying $200 of BTC on Strike, I would have to pay $0 in fees... This would equate to $0 in fees after a year... A clear option at this point. Trustwallet When buying $200 of BTC on Trustwallet, I would have to pay $2.43 in fees. This would equate to $126.36 in fees after a year. Crypto.com When buying $200 of BTC on Crypto.com I would have to pay a 2.99% card fee, or $5.80. This would equate to $301.60 of fees after a year. Well from this experiment, I will clearly be using Strike for my recurring investments. Unless anyone has another option to get fee free BTC, I will likely be doing my business with them! Hope you found this interesting! I sure did. What Percentage of My Paycheck Should Go Into Crypto? image source https://clark.com/personal-finance-credit/investing-retirement/investing-with-100-or-less/ I know that the answer that you all want to give is 100% and I would love to live in a world where that is the case, but for now I can't use my altcoins for much without converting them to cash and not a ton of stores accept Bitcoin yet. I've been formulating what I want to do with my paychecks when they start to come in next month, and I really want to start to build some serious holdings in a few key coins. Coins I Want I am interested in DCA'ing a few different coins over the course of the next year or so and hopefully continuing going forward. I would like to stack Bitcoin as my main holding because I do believe it's first mover advantage will continue to power it as the cryptocurrency space grows. Next, I would like to stack some BNB and some BEP-20 RUNE. I know that it is probably better to stack native RUNE, but for now I want to accumulate in BEP-20 room for the practical reason that my ledger does not have enough storage space to have a Binance chain wallet and a Thorchain wallet on it. I next want to stack MATIC as I believe it is a viable solution to some of Ethereum's issues and even if it is not the long term fix, it should be a solid asset to hold in the short to medium term. Lastly, I have decided that there is a ton of potential in Chainlink and I should be buying some of that. The concept of linking data oracles to business applications is where I can see much of the non-crypto world finding themselves coming over to our side of things. Chainlink could prove to be important, and I would love to hold some. Breakdown Well without using dollar amounts, the breakdown of my paycheck is set to be the following for savings and keeping up with financial obligations. Roughly 25% on rent Roughly 12.5% on food and items for the house Roughly 10% on utilities and expenses 25% on cash savings for expenditures (boring I know) Leaving around 27.5% of my bi-weekly income for investment, which I would like to split as such: 50% BTC 12.5% MATIC 12.5% Chainlink 12.5% BNB 12.5% RUNE What do people think of this distribution? Too top heavy? Or well distributed? I like it, but am not 100% committed to it. I do know that I want around 20-27.5% of my income being held in cryptocurrency assets because I believe that they will be great investments. This is not financial advice, more just me stating what I would like to do with my own money! The Wojak Youtube Rabbithole If you are at all familiar with cryptocurrency memes, you will have likely come across a few posts including a meme that includes a Wojak. I have found myself in the deepest of rabbitholes watching videos about Wojak and his friends/enemies on Youtube that is wildly difficult to explain to someone outside of the cryptocurrency space. Essentially this set of memes started on 4chan and has made it's way to Youtube as people use the characters to tell stories about cryptocurrency trading failures and successes as Wojak battles against the forces of the Bogdanoff twins (two deceased French actors who had a ton of plastic surgery done and according to consipracy theories, able to control the entire cryptocurrency market) to try to make it out of the rat race. I will link some videos because it is difficult to understand what is happening or why it is happening at first, but after a few videos you catch on and it is difficult to stop. https://youtu.be/lng9u26JAvk https://youtu.be/Uth4KazTJio https://youtu.be/BI7iAVXKfBw I would love to see some of these video creators come over to 3speak and will thus be starting to comment on videos that they should check out the platform. These memes are integral to the more degenerate cryptocurrency traders and can provide a laugh in the face of sometimes difficult market conditions. https://www.youtube.com/embed/lng9u26JAvk I recommend checking a few out, there are numerous content creators that work on these, I just gave the links for two of them. You'll have a good laugh and probably learn nothing, but sometimes that is important to do! We are all Wojak in some way, which makes these videos all the more compelling to watch. We all make mistakes in trading and in other aspects of life and the concept of the Bogdanoffs being out to make sure we lose in the crypto markets is an amusing way to look at the concept of bad luck in the markets. Twitter Bots Are Ruining Something Good image source https://www.irishtimes.com/business/technology/how-malicious-twitter-bots-evolve-to-evade-detection-1.4036515 I'm about to talk about something that I don't believe I have an actual answer on, but have been thinking about this morning. Is it worth it to put effort into growing a following on Twitter for solely marketing purposes if half of the users within the subject niche could be bots? I came across this article from NPR (and don't get me wrong, there may be more trustworthy sources, but this article sparked a lot of talk and controversy a few years back) about how half of the accounts discussing coronavirus on Twitter were bots. https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2020/05/20/859814085/researchers-nearly-half-of-accounts-tweeting-about-coronavirus-are-likely-bots The article references a study that was done by Carnegie Melon University that determined that 45% of the tweets they found about coronavirus during January 2020 were written by accounts that "behaved more like computerized robots than humans". Marketing Implications So I will concede that my thought is more of a thought experiment than a scientific one. Just because half of the tweets from Coronavirus on that given month were from bots, does not mean that it holds true for other hashtags or topic niches. At the same time, why don't you go and run your own experiment and tweet something with #NFT or #NFTPROJECT in it? Within 30 seconds you will surely get notifications that some accounts want you to dm them to promote your project... The point is that this research appears to be pretty reflective of the climate in popular categories on the site. https://leofinance.io/trending/nft https://leofinance.io/trending/nftproject Well if half of the accounts are bots, then is your marketing within a specific tag worth your time or falling on deaf ears? If half of the traffic within your tag is being autogenerated, it can be assumed that these bots are not the most sophisticated and are likely only reading the tags that you include rather than your content. Sure your marketing is hitting the other 50% (that is if you aren't shadowbanned by the algorithm), but is that worth your time or is it inefficient? I suppose it all comes down to whether or not there is an alternative that would better serve your purposes; once again, I don't have the answers here, I am just putting some thoughts into the ether. Moral Implications A little look at the moral implications of bots clogging up half the traffic is that you really aren't able to decipher what is real thought or opinion and what is a bot pushing forward a coded agenda in perfect harmony with the algorithm. It would be foolish to code a bot that doesn't keep in mind the structure of Twitter's algorithm, so it can be assumed that the bots that are finding their way onto your feed usually know what they are doing. It just sucks knowing that half of the information that we consume on popular topics may be created by bots and may not be organic or useful in thought structure. It provides the need to constantly question the intentions of the author, which I suppose is something you should be doing anyways, but it just adds another layer of deception. There are of course many positive uses for bots, but not knowing who is who is a dangerous game to play online. I like to use Twitter for what it was always intended to do. Make you laugh at ridiculous videos, roasts, hot takes and jokes. I have used Twitter for marketing purposes and just haven't felt the enjoyment from it that I felt back in 2016 when everyone was a savage and jokes were flying from everywhere. There are still a ton of positives, but there is just so much noise now, be confident in yourself and don't trust every single thing that you read. How Many RUNE To Become A Millionaire Today, I was able to pick up another nice chunk of RUNE. Though the amounts I'm purchasing may not be huge money to everyone, I am pretty happy with the amount that I have been able to save up thus far and am excited to see where the price ends up in the coming months. I thought it would be interesting to look at how many RUNE it would take to become a millionaire at different price levels to help people figure out a plan for how many RUNE they want to stack up in the next few months. Why not? $10 RUNE At a price of $10, you would need to have 100,000 RUNE stacked up to reach the million dollar mark... A bit hefty $20 RUNE At a price of $20, you would need to have 50,000 RUNE stacked up. Still quite a lot. $50 RUNE At a price of $50, things are getting a little more reasonable, but still quite heft at 20,000 RUNE to reach the mark. $100 RUNE At a price of $100, you need to have 10,000 RUNE stacked up to reach the million dollar mark $500 RUNE At this price, you only need to have 2,000 RUNE stacked up. This is still a lot of money even at current prices, but for an investment of around 13k right now you can become a millionaire if RUNE is able to reach this big benchmark. I don't know that any of these are easily attainable, but if we remain at price levels that favor accumulation and people are consistent with their investing, it is certainly possible to hit it big if RUNE eventually blows up like I believe that it could. I just wanted to make this post to establish some perspective on what growth could look like. We have seen price booms like this with a lot of different cryptos, it is certainly possible it could happen again. Do your own research and be smart with how you are investing. My plan is to keep stacking until I'm able to get as close to that 2000 RUNE mark as possible as $500 is my selling target! Good luck to all! The Rental Housing Market Is Ridiculous image source http://www.bestrent.vn/5-popular-types-of-rental-properties/ The College Market When I was in college, I rented a house with my friends just off campus, but that seemed like a pretty straightforward process. I guess it was known that the people renting there would be students, so all that was really required of us was to sign a lease saying we wouldn't break anything, give a security deposit to prove that was the case and then pay rent. It's not like any of us had jobs, but we had thousands of dollars of loans at our disposal that will no doubt inconvenience us later on in life... Just not right then. Now, moving out seems to have a bunch of unnecessary and in my opinion, stupid hoops to jump through. Now I am moving to Philadelphia on Sunday with some of my friends and have gotten massively frustrated with the process. First, here is breakdown of the ridiculous upfront charges they are asking for: 1st months rent Last months rent Security deposit Application fee Prorated rent for all the days we will live there before March 1st All the utilities Here is a breakdown of all of the things that they needed from us before even giving us an application to rent: Background check Credit check Paystubs from a job Application fee All personal information Banking details and balances We also had to negotiate the price of rent to include some of the furniture and their stubbornness wasted a month of our time even though we eventually reached a decent compromise. So just to clarify, a year and a half ago all I needed to do was to show up and pay a deposit and sign a paper and then I had a house. Now I feel like we are going through the necessary steps to be processed into a prison and are being asked for entirely too much up front. Is It Always Like This? I keep being told "this is the way it is" and that has really pissed me off. The entire process to me feels very discriminatory. Though we hit all the necessary steps in order to get the house, the process feels designed to keep people away. If this is how it is everywhere, it is a wonder that there are not more people who find themselves homeless or unable to secure a long term rental. If I am ever to be renting out real estate (which honestly, I would rather not do), I would not put tenants through such a ridiculous and unnecessary process. It should be as simple as: You pay, you stay. If you can't pay, let's figure out how you can do it, or we move on. Do you need to know my bank balance, schedule from 9-5, lunch preference, eye color, favorite cartoon as a kid, middle school lunch pin code, travel history, favorite web browser and how many hairs I have on my neck for me to live in your tiny little house? I sure don't think so. Landlords suck. Sorry landlords reading this, maybe you don't suck. Smart Contract Coding - Every Answer Is Online image source https://www.livescience.com/42604-who-invented-the-internet.html Situation In the last few days, I have been checking out the feasibility of learning how to code smart contracts and specifically I've been checking out Solidity (the language that powers the Ethereum network). Now I don't really think that I'd want to build on Ethereum, but I think that learning how things are done allows you to have a solid background in understanding exactly where you want to be and where you don't want to be. I am just shocked at how readily available literally everything you need to know about anything is nowadays. There are of course a few things such as building on Hive or building dApps that are a bit more advanced or novel that don't come with step-by-step guides yet, but most things actually do. In the last month, I have seen videos that teach you Solidity in it's entirety, videos that show you how to layer and run a script to create 10000 NFTS, videos that guide you on how to code a trading bot, videos that show you how to make your own video game, videos to mine your own Litecoin... There's literally a tutorial video for 95% of the things you can think of doing in this world. Implication The democratization of information necessary to build the products and services that you want is the most incredible development of the modern world in my opinion. It is no longer the case that you need to attend 8+ years of schooling to develop the skills needed to pursue your dreams. Of course, there are still certain professions you would like to know that the person did not learn their skills on Youtube for reassurance reasons (i.e. Doctors... "oh yeah I saw this heart surgery on Youtube last week and now I'm ready to perform it"), but there are a ton of things that are making the school system more obsolete than it is already. In my opinion, the value of school is that you are able to gain knowledge on a topic from someone who has been deemed an expert in that field... But we all know that is rarely the case. Schools are still the benchmark we have for measuring success and progress, but it seems clear that we are moving closer and closer to schools (namely higher education) being a thing of the past as information is so readily available for free that people are going to get fed up faster than ever before with having to take 8 elective courses for $500/credit. I can say that the information that has been most useful in my life I have learned outside of the classroom; often that information has been taught to me through Youtube. Colleges are relying on the job market demanding degrees from their employees, but once enough people realize that is total bullshit, we will start seeing colleges becoming a thing of the past. Every answer (save the few crazy questions and topics) is online. Why is Youtube not seen as valuable when a degree from Georgetown or Harvard is supposed to be? One costs you nothing and one costs you $75,000 a year, black mold poisoning from the dorm room and a slew of ex girlfriends who blocked you on Instagram... Youtube is sounding better by the minute. I handled my financial obligations and am using more or less "disposable income" (though I am not rich, so there is a vibe of aping into things for no reason) to invest in Splinterlands assets rather than holding my money in the bank for little to no return. Of course this is wildly risky as Splinterlands assets can go up and down 30%+ in a day, but hey... why not? I had a few hundred dollars in my account, so rather than have that do nothing, I wanted to get the exposure of an increased daily SPS airdrop and so I bought some gold foil summoners and leveled up the majority of my chaos legion deck to level 3 or 4. This is big for me as I have been a level one player more or less my entire time on Splinterlands, so I am finally seeing the value of leveling up your deck when it comes to win percentage and strategy. I also picked up some gold foil legendaries for the purpose of the airdrop, but have actually been able to use both of them in strategies quite often and rather successfully. Here are my two guys, not cheap but it is where I have decided to put my money for better or for worse: River Helondale This card actually provides the inspire ability and when paired with the demented shark, it is actually lethal at higher mana battles where you can have cards dishing out 7+ damage each turn. Spirit Hoarder Being a neutral card, this one has a ton of utility. When I'm using a team that is heavy in magic, I like to stick this guy in there at only 3 mana as the triage ability it brings to the battle can be a difference maker in a close one. My Thoughts This is a wildly risky place to store your money and it is almost certainly a terrible idea, but I've done worse things with money and this one is at least doubling my daily SPS drop. I've gone through phases with Splinterlands where I have been focused on investment and phases where I have enjoyed gameplay. I can say with complete confidence that things are a lot more fun and a lot easier to think about and plan for when you are playing the game for enjoyment rather than for financial gain (though that will eventually come as well if the game continues it's trajectory). Only invest what you can afford to lose, but be sure to try to enjoy what you are doing or you're probably better off just leverage trading to make quick money. 10000 Hours To Master Something - How Long To Master A Hobby? I've been thinking a lot about what I want to pursue in my life. However, after giving that some thought, I have realized how futile it is to think that just theorizing what you want to do with your life will actually accomplish it; additionally that it won't happen instantly, but will likely take many years. For this reason, I decided that doing just a little bit of active work per day pursuing/seeking a passion could pay dividends after a lot of repetitions; this is action rather than theory. I've been reading a bit about this 10,000 hour rule proposed by Malcolm Gladwell. Here is a little description of it from this site: https://www.6seconds.org/2020/01/25/10000-hour-rule/ "What does it take to become an expert or master performer in a given field? 10,000 hours of practice. It’s a common rule of thumb, popularized by Malcom Gladwell in his bestseller Outliers: The Story of Success." This theory has been scrutinized and has overall been found false due to the fact that people learn at different rates and 10,000 is just a catchy and arbitrary number and thus not a scientifically valid number; however, the thinking behind it seems to have merit. If you are working on something for X number of hours per day for many years and are working with real intent, it serves that you will be more likely to become an expert in the field you are working in over time. Maybe 10,000 hours is a generalization, but the idea to get after something a few hours at a time is something that is motivating to me. Consistency is key. This is something that is always said on Hive and is a lesson that I am seeing is really more important than people give it credit for. I am one who falls into the lure of quick returns and sporadic/high risk behaviors, so consistency is not one of my strong suits. However, I think that as I get older, I will come to find that the things I was patient with for one reason or another will be the most valuable and meaningful things in my life. I will be trying to put 1 hour a day into identifying a hobby that will become my passion. I think that learning to write smart contract code is something that I wish I did in college and is something that will serve to be important. Maybe you'll catch me learning Solidity for an hour a day and by 2032 when it has been replaced 7 times, I will finally be an expert! Cointracker Crypto Tax Compiler - Why Tax Reporting Pisses Me Off Image Source https://www.forbes.com/advisor/taxes/6-changes-2021-tax-season/ I personally don't understand how we as a society (America specifically here though I think it is the same around the world) allow for such heavy taxes to be imposed upon us without a real say in how they are spent and why tax returns need to be filed at all. A few of my friends are accountants, so the other day I asked them as politely as humanly possible why we even have to file tax returns. They responded that it is a process made up by the government to get more money from people. Either they overpay because their calculations were off, or they underpay and get hit with fines or even jail time as a result. It's absolutely ridiculous. The IRS knows exactly how much money they are owed from each person by using an algorithm linked to your social security number and thus linked to all KYC verification methods. You have to file a tax return because they literally want you to mess it up... The amount of privacy that is given up by providing your information to KYC verifications is something that is rarely discussed in the mainstream. Everyone is perfectly happy to live in ignorance as we are tracked across literally every application we use and every key stroke is recorded in order to maximize the amount of profit we will provide the data collectors. Cointracker is a new protocol being used that allows you to aggregate all of your centralized exchange accounts into one tax report. It is wildly efficient in getting the job done, but is also incredibly invasive. I always thought that cryptocurrency was supposed to enhance privacy and allow for the flow of money detached from the government, but it has actually spurred innovations to increase control. I guess the only thing that is private for now is what happens on hardware wallets and things connected to decentralized exchanges. However, with a little bit of work even that can be pieced together with a high degree of accuracy as to what account is run by who. In addition, the only way to get your investment into fiat currency other than P2P transactions is to sell it on an exchange linked to your bank account. As far as I can tell, there is very little privacy in the cryptocurrency space if you ever want to turn that currency into fiat; something that is still pretty much necessary to have any spending power with your holdings. Please correct me if any of this rant was wrong, I beg you.
