The Causes and Possible Solutions of Poor Education System

Education is the door which opens the path for our dreams and knowledge is the fruit that sustains our way of life. It is a civil right to attend school, however, not everyone is privileged enough to have access to proper education.

If education is a civil right and a civic duty for all the members of society, why does each country bear illiteracy, numeracy and education problems? One because of corruption. Corruption is not only present within the area of politics but also in every sector or form of private and public organizations, even within schools and institutions.

The secretary of the Department of Education in the Philippines has recently received backlash and violent reactions not only from students but also from the entire population of the country. A bidding for ham and cheese worth P4.2million for the central office alone was discovered. Due to the pandemic, students, parents and teachers are facing consequences and conflicts with the sudden change of the learning modality in the country, but here comes the secretary of the executive department of the Philippine government, willing to bid enough money to alleviate educational problems, just for the sake of celebrating a Christmas party consisted of ham and cheese as the main course dish.

If they were to use the P4.2million to alleviate the educational problems such as lack of gadgets for online classes and provide stable internet connection for teachers and students, there's a higher possibility that students are able to feel more motivated and supported and certainly more confident with their performances without having to feel more anxious due to the connectivity problems.

Second cause is poverty. Due to the lack of money, students are either unenrolled or dropouts. There have been many cases where children become internet sensations due to their dedication to study and learn, and often times, these children come from families with low income. Due to their fame, help comes along their way. Now, if the higher education department or the executive department of the government were to assign teachers in teaching street children, teenagers and adults who lack financial support, there's a higher chance that a learner's future would not have to depend on their fame. Again, education is a civil right and a civic duty, therefore, everyone must be given access to proper education.

Third is the lack of support. Parents and guardians bear the responsibility in nurturing and guiding their children, thus, it is their duty to provide proper access to proper education. This may be linked to poverty as there is no support when there is no income, but there are instances where adults cannot supervise their children due to their busy schedules. I propose that the teacher must always check the student's behavior not only physically but also mentally and emotionally, in order to be a counselor who can be of help and support, because, they bear the same responsibility as it is their civic duty to promote meaningful, successful and life-long learning.

These are just a few of the causes and possible solutions that I am aware of with regards to poor education system. Every country faces different situations and problems with education.
