Mini Cloud 9 “Corn Dogs”: A New Way to Snack on This Childhood Candy

cloud 9 really is nostalgic. Its chocolate, caramel, soft nougat, and peanut combo was practically everyone’s childhood guilty pleasure. The candy was something you look for when you go and buy stuff at the store. Nowadays though, it rarely crosses your mind. Well, on our latest round for groceries, we picked up a pack. And instead of just eating it as is, we made them into Cloud 9 “corn dogs.”

This recipe is basically Cloud 9 covered in pancake batter, then fried. (Think fried oreos of years past.) Before you do anything, stick your Cloud 9’s in the fridge for about an hour to get it cold. This ensures that it stays mostly intact when you fry it later in hot oil.

You don’t want the batter to be runny. The goal is that it forms a thick coating around your candy.

We made our own pancake batter here so we could control the thickness of the liquid. But feel free to go the easier route and using box pancake make, instead. Just remember to hold off on the water or milk a bit; you’ll want to use a thick batter here.

Top with powdered sugar or dip into some (more) chocolate.

These cloud 9 “corn dogs” end up being like fried smores. The outer layer is neutral in taste, which helps in balancing out the intensified sweetness of the semi-melted Cloud 9 filling. It’s easy to get lost munching on these mini versions. That said, you can also try this recipe with the regular-sized bars. Although we don’t see the difference it will make in the general scheme of things.
