A netizen recently reached out to the When In Manila team saying that a fake giveaway account using When In Manila’s name has surfaced. The account reportedly messages people that they won a “giveaway” that our team is hosting.
According to the netizen, an account with the username @wimyummygiveaway followed her on Instagram (akin to our @wimyummy Instagram page). At first, she said that she thought it was a legitimate account and that’s why she did not check it.
However, the account started messaging her and said that she is one of the lucky winners of the ongoing “wimyummygiveaway” lottery in support of COVID-19.
The account also asked the netizen to send them an e-mail and message them on Whatsapp. It also claimed that the netizen’s winnings are “100% real.”
After receiving this message, When In Manila would like to say that we are not holding this kind of giveaway. We will NEVER ask for any personal information. There are many fake things out there, and we would like to ask people to be vigilant about these things.
