Visit to the second tallest statue in the Americas
Good afternoon to all the members of the community. today I wanted to share with you a pleasant memory of a trip I made some years ago with some colleagues from the university, we went as tourists to spend a few days in the state of Trujillo, in my native Venezuela. Among the many sites we visited, one in particular was very special, touring the so-called ''Monument to the Virgin of Peace''.
This monument is made of concrete. It was designed by sculptor Manuel de la Fuente and inaugurated in 1983.
The statue, which represents the Virgin Mary carrying a dove in her right arm, symbolizes the clamor for peace throughout the world. The monument has five viewpoints, located along the structure. Specifically in her knees, left hand, right hand, waist and eyes.
The monument can be visited at the pace of each visitor, stopping to contemplate the view in each of the viewpoints. It is worth mentioning that the view as one ascends becomes more and more spectacular.
From the first viewpoint located on the knees at 18 meters high you can see most of the city of Trujillo.
Already halfway through the tour, at the level of the third viewpoint located on the right hand we could see the highest mountain in the state located at 4006 meters high.
To access the last viewpoint, located at the level of the eyes of the statue at 44 meters high is necessary to climb a vertical staircase after which, you will enter a relatively small space in which you can see through each of the eyes of the virgin.
As a final fact, mention that with its 46.78 meters high. It is the second tallest statue of the American continent. And the statue number 49 worldwide. Without a doubt it is a great monument of Venezuela which I would love to visit again soon.
