There was a story of a man who travelled to a far country and on his way coming, he was robbed and beaten on his way. They took all he had on him and didn't pity him. They tortured him to a point of death and they left him in pain. After some while, a man came by, saw him but looked away without trying to help him.
Another man came by, took the other road and went away without having pity on the man who was beaten to the point of death. Then, there came the third man who had compassion on him, took him and headed for his home. He took care of the man until he was healed and the man got back to his state again.
This story is a beautiful and moral story from the Bible titled "The good Samaritan". When I was young, we were taught to love our neighbour and be kind to them. The third man happened to be a good Samaritan who helped this man. He showed a true act of kindness and love to the man being robbed.
Some might think "my neighbor" are those relatives, siblings around them but it is not that way. Yes, our relatives are included but the Bible extend this act to those around us. Our colleagues at work, friends we play with together, strangers we meet on the way etc. The truth is we are one in God's eyes and He has created us equally to love us to His own heart. We are to also reciprocate this love to everyone around us.
When we love our neighbour, there won't be any form of hatred. Why do we hurt others? Why do we criticize others because of our own selfish gain? We don't need that. God has commanded us to love everyone around us and we shouldn't in any form hate them. The Bible says that "we should love our neighbours as ourselves".
When there is love among us, there would be unity. What if the man died just because no one was willing to help him? This will be so bad and unfair because the man had three opportunities to be helped but no one was ready to volunteer. We have seen many people who can't sacrifice themselves to help others. Don't you know in helping others, God will help you? Your neighbor should be your priority because as you want others to treat you, treat others same way.
I remembered when I was growing up, I learnt something from my Father, which is Kindness.
My Dad can give his last penny to those in need. Most times, not only money but attention and other things he was capable of doing. I and my siblings took this act from him and till today, I find Kindness easy to do and it has really helped me in school and everywhere. "Help those in needs and you will reap what you sow".
I love stories and I will end with this short story about kindness.
There was a man about to die. He called his three daughters and advised them. He gave his last wish but left nothing. The daughters were sad seeing their father dying without leaving anything behind. The father died and was buried, the daughters cursed him and they lived on with their lives.
The eldest decided to go hunting for Job and she came across a billboard "There's vacancy". She quickly entered and immediately she was interviewed the same day. The interviewer asked of her name and they discovered the surname looks familiar. They saw it was her father who was a security in the company. The interviewer then said "You are qualified for this job. Your father while he was alive was so kind and generous. He was truthful and had a good record when he was alive. We believe your father had transferred this act to you and we will be so proud of you just as we were proud of your Father". This was how this lady started work the following week.
She immediately went to her father's grave and begged for forgiveness.
The man didn't leave any material thing behind, but his kindness favored his children. Be kind to people around you. Now that you have read this, let me ask this question from you. Who is your Neighbor?
Thanks for reading.
