No, you can't do this to me. Am I at fault introducing her to you? Is this how you will pay me back? Kelvin, think of how we started. Think about our childhood days. Remember, you held me and promised all will be well. You encouraged me to move on which I did. Why will you do this to me now?

Stella, a 300 level student, studying Accounting in one of the prestigious universities with the help of George. George works in an oil company and has been taking care of Stella since she gained admission into the university. He had made up his mind to always make her happy, he just finds himself showering her love and affection with nothing attached to it. Ever since Stella came into his life, he has been prospering in all his endeavors and would not allow anything to hurt her feelings.

George and Kelvin had been friends right from their childhood and they focused on becoming great in life. Both struggled to earn a living until everything was working smoothly for George after his encounter with Stella on his way from an interview. She was coming back from her mother's shop that faithful day in the evening when suddenly she was attacked by two boys who wanted to rob her of her money but with the help of George who dealt with them and saved her.

He escorted Stella to her house to make sure she was safe, only for him to know she stays two street before his house. Stella thanked him and went inside.

The next day, George decided to pay her a visit but unfortunately, met her mother. Stella welcomed and introduced him to his mother and explained how he was saved by him the previous day. The old woman thanked and entertained him.

Stella's mother couldn't afford to send her to school after the death of her husband. Things were really tight for them but with the little she earned from her business, they were managing it. Thank God she had finished her secondary school before the incident and came out brilliantly in her WAEC examination. She has to manage with her mother and hoped for a better future someday.

George seeing how fortunate he was after meeting Stella decided to help her through education and make her the best in her career. He bought jamb form for her and did well including post jamb where she was admitted into the University to study Accounting.

Her mum was so happy seeing that her daughter will be a graduate soon and make her proud. The night before she was to go to school, her mother called her and spoke at length with her. Then, the next day, George came to pick her to the garage, they both talked together while in his car and he told her to always call him whenever she needed anything.

Stella is now in school and everything was going well as she focused more on her studies. She didn't allow anything to distract her as her aim and determination were to make her mother and helper happy and never to disappoint them. Everything was provided at her disposal. George couldn't stop sending her money and he noticed his money keeps increasing when he sends money to her.

Could this girl be for me? Why am I getting blessed each day? Is it my act of giving because as the adage says givers never lack? He was soliloquizing but never find answer to his questions. This didn't stop him from giving, not only to Stella but to people who needed his help.

George was loved at his place of work and was always seen around people while making them laugh. He is just a humorous being, said one of the staff one day. After some months, he was transferred to another state to head the oil company there. He called Stella and told her the progress. She was so happy hearing that and prayed for him.

After a year in the new place he was transferred to, Stella was in her final year already, and George had made plans for her once she finishes her education. He was going to hold a big party by inviting big personalities just to honor Stella. He kept planning every day and was sure things would be in place before then.

He was in his office one day when he heard a thick voice "do not lose her". He was scared of the voice and immediately called Stella to hear her voice. After some minutes with her on phone, he dropped the call and was still thinking about the message he heard earlier. George hasn't proposed yet to her and this was included in his plans.

What if I do not take a step now? Stella doesn't know I have feelings for her yet. What if she says yes to someone else? Won't I become like someone pouring water into the basket? I need to act fast.

He was still on this when a call came in from his boss. Hello, Mr. George, get ready as you will be representing me in a meeting at Abuja tomorrow. All you need are already prepared and you should be there on time. The meeting is going to last a week. Okay, Sir! He hanged the call.

Quickly, he left for his home to get prepared and immediately told his friend Kelvin about the meeting and for how long he would be staying. Do you think I should tell Stella about this? No, you don't need, since you will be back in a week, said Kelvin. The next day, he was on his way to Abuja.

This is the perfect time to act fast on this said Kelvin after seeing his friend off. The next day, he dialed Stella's number and it went through "Hello, this is Kelvin, George was involved in an accident few mins ago and was rushed to the hospital, he has been calling your name severally to come over, I will send the address to you now". He hanged the call.

Stella was shocked and started acting weird in her room, she couldn't believe what she heard and immediately tried George's line but switched off. She was still panting in her room when a message came in "the address". She rushed to take her bath, got dressed, and started her journey. On her way, she kept trying his line but switched off.

Stella kept trying George's number until she got to a particular place where Kelvin had directed her. She went straight into a building and noticed there was no one in it. Could this be a hospital? How come everywhere is silent? Am I in the wrong place? Of course not, he directed me here. As she stopped to try Kelvin's line, someone from behind held her and cover her mouth and eyes with a cloth.

Please, leave me alone, who are you? The voice didn't respond until they got a place.

She was taken into a dark room and there she saw Kelvin and knew something was wrong. Why did you lie? Why did you bring me here without George? Where is him? All these questions, but none were answered. After a few minutes, he spoke.

Stella, ever since I knew you with George, things have been working for him, he was promoted at his place of work and I thought of it that there is something about you and I brought you here to help me too. Give me that thing working for him and I will leave you in peace.

You are a wicked friend, why would you do this to your friend? You are a traitor. So you are wishing George dead and think you will have me? This is bad.

Immediately, Kelvin slapped her. Will you shut up and stop ranting. How dare you talk to me in that way? Give me what I want and I will let you go.

Stella was sobbing very hard but no one to console her. She started thinking of George. Where would he be? Why did he switch off his phone when I was calling him? Is something going on? She was left alone in the room while Kelvin went outside.

George had just finished his first meeting in the evening and that was the reason he switched off his phone. He picked his phone and tried calling her but the phone was not going. He waited till the next day and tried her number again but still not going. This moment, he wasn't himself anymore and different thoughts started coming in. Before he dashed off to the meeting, a call came in from Stella's mum.

Hello George, thank God your number went through. How are you doing? I was told you were involved in an accident. I couldn't come over to the hospital myself. I hope Stella is there with you as I have been trying her number but not going. Accident? Who told you that? I went for a meeting at Abuja and I am even having another one in some minutes now.

No, Stella called me and told me Kelvin called to inform her you were involved in an accident and immediately left her school to check on you. I will call you back soon ma (he hanged up the call)

George knew something was going on and he need to finish up with the meeting or he was going to lose his job. He couldn't believe what Kelvin did. All these thoughts were running in his mind as he couldn't concentrate in the meeting.

After the meeting, George called his boss but the look on his face after speaking with him was not smiling at all. He frowned his face and was almost shedding tears. His boss had said the final, "wait till the meeting is over or you lose your job". What should he do? Leave the job and attend to Stella or attend to her while his job and position are at stake? He kept thinking about this, suddenly, an idea struck his mind.

He quickly dialed Mathew's number (he is also one of the staff at his place of work and they both were doing fine though). He narrated everything to him which he gladly accepted to help him. He thanked Matthew and hanged up the call.

After work, Matthew went straight to the police to seek their help. After hearing from him, they wrote down Kelvin's address and promised to visit his house early in the morning.

He called George to inform him about the new development and he was pleased with it. The next day, Matthew and three policemen went to Kelvin's house, unfortunately, they didn't meet him. They searched everywhere but he was nowhere to be found. The policemen promised to keep investigating until they have found him.

Stella had been dealt with by Kelvin because she refused to open up. Bruises were all over her. George has been trying Kelvin's line too but not going until the last day of the meeting at Abuja, he called and he picked it

"No, you can't do this to me. Am I at fault for introducing her to you? Is this how you will pay me back? Kelvin, think of how we started. Think about our childhood days. Remember, you held me and promised all will be well. You encouraged me to move on which I did. Why will you do this to me now?"

These were the words he managed to say before Kelvin dropped the call.

Stella knew it was George that called but couldn't speak due to the bruises on her face. She kept weeping but wasn't comforted.

George came back from Abuja and the investigation was still going on. He felt sad and kept thinking about Stella, he was in the office with Matthew when he received a call "we have seen her and she is in the hospital". Immediately, he left what he was doing and went together with Matthew.

George and Matthew got to the hospital and was directed to the ward Stella was. Seeing her, he was astonished to see how Kelvin had hurt her. He held her hand and said, "I am sorry to allow this to happen, if I had known he was this devilish, I won't have introduced you to him".

Twenty minutes later, Kelvin was handcuffed by two policemen and they came to the hospital. When George saw him, he flared up and wanted to smash him but was stopped by Matthew to leave him. How did it happen? How did you get him? Asked Matthew.

As we have said the other day to keep investigating and after going to his house and didn't meet him, we were still on alert and made sure we fulfill our promise. We were on a patrol three days ago when we saw him alight from a bike, seeing his picture with us, I knew he was the one, and we apprehended him. He was able to take us to where she was (pointing at Stella) after much beating.

Thank you, Officer! You truly stood on your promise. God bless you. Thank you for saving her (he shook hands with the policemen and they took Kelvin away)

Stella was discharged after a week. After three months, she graduated as a second class upper and as he had planned, he organized a grand party for her, invited many renowned personalities. He proposed right in front of them and they both got married. Stella's Mum was the happiest mother ever.
