For ages, Africa has been the continent that has been associated with so much poverty and has been looked down on by other development nations. To begin with, Africans are to take 80% of the blame on why they are viewed that way.

Long before, most African ancestors where uneducated and did not understand the importance of development. Even though African nations were very rich in natural resources, they were not able to utilize them properly. As time went on, the Europeans discovered this ignorance on the part of Africans and effectively took advantage of the situation.

They were able to colonize these African nations and siphoned their resources bit by bit. This event played a big part on why most African nations are suffering and the Europeans are flourishing. However, we cannot blame all of Africa's woes on the effect of colonization. There are nations such as the united states were also colonized but have now found their feet.

When the African nations began fighting for and gaining independence, their own people had to rule the nations. Another factor for Africa's situation is that they lacked enough visionary leaders. Even though there may have been a few of them, the couldn't rule forever and got replaced for others who are not visionary. Most of the leaders are greedy and think of themselves first at the expense of the nation.

This has lead to several corrupt practices occurring under the watch of the leaders. Money intended for developmental purposes are squandered by political leaders. They them ran to take loans from other countries and international financial institutions under very strict conditions. These financial supporters then impose instructions on how the country is run with the funds. This is just colonization again happening behind closed doors.

The citizens are also to blame as majority of them do not have the mentality of improving development. They lack maintenance culture and destroy state properties which would cause government more money in repairing. The investment mind set is also lacking in a majority of the citizens.

So long as we continue to have greedy and corrupt leaders in the African system, development is going to remain stagnant and the continent is going to remain inferior as it is.
