It was a very cold evening, although most people were inside their homes with their sweaters, caps, socks, and hand gloves on, they, however, shivered as the cold seemed to penetrate through the walls.
Mama as she was fondly called by her children, prepared hot cups of tea for them and lit two lanterns around the small living room which consisted of two long couch, a wooden table, and a small dusty television which was hardly switched on for they owed electricity bills.
Three children were seated on the three-seater couch, each one of them was wearing about three sweaters with a cap on their head and a large blanket used to cover their legs. They all held their teacups and sipped it gently as Mama joined them sitting at the opposite chair whose foam was sunken inside.
Silence fell across the room as the children wanted Mama to tell them a story, Mama stared into the orange flame of the lantern and started, "a long time ago, the prophets of the old prophesied the birth of a great King they claimed would be the greatest of all King's."
"Everyone looked forward to the birth of this King, but do you know what happened?" Mama asked them, their eyes were fixed on her as they shook their head as a "no."
"The great King was born in a manger…"
"Jesus!" one shouted.
Mama nodded her head, "he was not born in a palace-like other Kings but in a manger, a place filled with animals because there was no room space for him but how will the greatest King not have a room space? Isn't he suppose to be in the best room in the city, under the warmest blankets but this King was wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger."
The children listened attentively as Mama continued, "but although he was born in a manger, three wise men came from afar to greet him for they had seen a shining bright star in the sky and they knew a Great King was born, they followed the star and ended up in a manger, they brought gifts and bowed down to the King who was laid with animals."
Mama sipped her tea which was now warm and the children did the same," shepherds also came to greet the King for an angel had appeared to them telling them on the birth of this great King."
"Can you see how great this King is, he wasn't born in a palace but the star shone brightly for his birth, the angels rejoiced for his birth, the wise men, the shepherds, all this for the King who was born in a manger called Jesus Christ, our Savior and King who we celebrate every Christmas."
"Every Christmas the world celebrates Jesus' birth, but not all remember he was born in a manger, but we mustn't forget that Jesus was born in a manger even though he is now seated on his throne in heaven at God's right hand." Mama sat forward and pointed to her children, "you my children are just like the King in the manger, today we may not have the warmest bed and blankets but soon you'll have it all and succeed like Jesus, for your purpose is greater than the manger you're in right now."
"Always remember Jesus, the King who was born in a manger who is now celebrated all over the world as the greatest of all Kings. Your future is greater than where your are now, remember Jesus was "a King in a manger."
