Everyone knows how much sleeping meant to us, it is our way to recharge and relax our body and mind from exhausting days we've been through.

But how can you recharge your mind and body from the exhausting day you've been through if you have been suffering from insomnia?

Before I'll share my story, I would like to give a little background to the topic of insomnia for us to all understand.

What is Insomnia?

Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that can make it hard to fall asleep, hard to stay asleep or cause you to wake up too early and not be able to get back to sleep. You may still feel tired when you wake up.

What are the 3 types of insomnia?

The three types of insomnia include transient insomnia (less than one week), acute insomnia (short term), and chronic insomnia (long term). Insomnia is the most common type of sleep disorder and it involves problems falling asleep or staying asleep, or getting quality sleep, despite adequate opportunity to do so.

What are the main causes of insomnia?

Common causes of insomnia include stress, an irregular sleep schedule, poor sleeping habits, mental health disorders like anxiety and depression, physical illnesses and pain, medications, neurological problems, and specific sleep disorders.

Can insomnia go away?

Acute or transient insomnia can go away on its own, but it will still have dangerous side effects while it is present. With chronic insomnia, there is no going away on its own.

Can insomnia Be Cured?

The good news is that most cases of insomnia can be cured with changes you can make on your own—without relying on sleep specialists or turning to prescription or over-the-counter sleeping pills.

I've been suffering from insomnia for almost 7 years, it was all started when I get pregnant with my firstborn. I thought that it was just normal because I am pregnant at that time and discomfort feeling is present during pregnancy but after I gave birth my insomnia become worse.

There are times that I awake for the whole night until morning and I feel sleepy during the afternoon and that sleeping cycle is not healthy anymore according to the doctor that I consulted with. It also affects my school performance and when I am working as a private teacher it also affects my performance as a teacher.

It is very difficult for me at that time because I can't even follow the doctor's advice due to paper works such as lesson plans and checking of students' activities that I need to focus on.

But after 1-year of teaching, I thought I can handle my insomnia because I don't have late-night works to do but I got pregnant and mommy's duties is a must (late night sleeps but worth it).

But lately, I observed that I sleep early than before and when I wake up early due to I need to feed my baby girl, I can now easily sleep back before the sun rises.

The things that I've been doing during my insomnia attacks are the following;

  1. Watching Youtube Videos.

I love watching videos about getting ingrown nails or pulling out blackheads or whiteheads. It is so satisfying and it helps me to calm my mind.

  1. Lessen my water intake.

I love drinking water especially cold water during the night before bedtime but it is not advisable because more water intake can make you feel energized and also can cause you to pee more that's why it can interrupt your sleeping cycle.

  1. Putting Lotion on my feet or aloe vera.

Putting lotion or aloe vera on my feet during bedtime helps me to calm myself.

  1. Praying

If I feel that something is bothering me and it was the cause of my insomnia I heartily pray to our Lord Jesus Christ and ask for guidance, talking to him makes me calm.

I read about this disease in my science book. This illness is often caused by stress and overwork. You have fought this disease vigorously. Even though you were pregnant. Thanks for the helpful info!
