The tree I'm talking about is the coconut tree; it is not your typical tree. It belongs to the palm tree family coconuts are very common in Asian countries, especially in the Philippines. I say it's the tree of life not because it is magical like those we see in the movies but the usage of its leaves down to its roots.

1. Coconut fruit

When the fruit is mature, it is harvested to make oil. and kernels of the coconut meat are made into animal feed. The husks are processed for their fibers to make mats, shoes, slippers, Bags, and many more. The Coconut shell is burned until it turns to coal. Coconut coal is used in making carbon products and used as fuel for cooking.

Coconut milk extracted from the fruit can also treat sore throat but be careful; it could upset your stomach and cause diarrhea. Coconut milk is also good for our hair and scalp; it could also prevent dandruff and treat ringworms.

Young coconut fruit is known to be delicious; it can be eaten raw or can be mixed in deserts and other dishes.

2. Coconut leaves

The leaves are weaved together to make roofs and walls of the hut common here in our country. The hard part of the leaves is used to make " Walis tingting" used by our mothers to torture us; sorry ( laughs), I mean used for cleaning and sweeping.

The coconut leaves that haven't emerged yet, or called the heart of coconut, is a known delicacy here in the Phillippines; it could be eaten raw or cooked with vegetables and meat.

Studies have shown that drinking a boiled concoction of coconut flower could treat kidney-related illnesses and urinary tract infections.

4. Coconut water

Sounds delicious, right?? (smirked). The water from young coconut has also known to treat diseases; it also contains vitamins and minerals that our body needs. So if someone opens up a young coconut, don't spill the water drink it! ( hmmm mheheh)

Coconut water in matured coconut is processed to make vinegar. It doesn't need special treatment. Just pour that water into the container with a lid put it under the sun for 3 days. Voila, you have your vinegar.

5. Coconut roots

Yes, you heard it right! even the roots are used to treat urinary tract infections and gall bladder-related diseases. Pull out 5 or more roots, wash them and boil them in water and add some salt.

6. Coconut trunk

It is processed and cut into planks, and then you have a weatherproof piece of material used to make houses; it can even withstand underwater and will never rot. Just be careful; it is tough to push the nails in when hammering it down.

Due to its characteristics, our ancestors actually use the trunk part and made utensils out of it. Even still used today in some areas and displayed in souvenir shops.
