Depression is a common disorder that affects millions of people worldwide. While some people suffer from depression without realizing it, most people with depression work. Therefore, it's important to understand how work affects our mental health.

People who work are almost twice as likely to experience depression as people who don't work. This is because of the stress and pressure that comes with employment. Furthermore, people who are in positions of leadership are at a higher risk of mental health issues than non-leaders. Taking care of yourself at work allows you to perform your best and feel confident in your abilities. However, not doing this can make you feel worried and overwhelmed, leading to poor decisions and mental health issues.

Depression commonly occurs at work; especially during evenings and weekends. Self-awareness and mindfulness are key when feeling depressed at work. You should avoid socializing with colleagues or friends if you feel like refusing everyone's invitations. Doing so will give you time to relax and think clearly when nobody is watching you. You should also avoid taking on too many tasks and assignments; instead, wait until the weekend to finish your workload. This will give you time to relax, sleep well, and get over your personal problems.

It's important to note that not everything about life requires involvement from work! Many people avoid job responsibilities for their entire life without any problems. Others choose to stay home from work whenever they want to avoid stress and responsibilities. Having this attitude is referred to as an 'optimistic withdrawal' from life. Essentially, these people choose to stay away from work whenever they're down or depressed enough to refuse it. Staying home allows them to relax without worrying about assignments or deadlines.

Taking care of your mental health is essential no matter what you're doing. However, professional workers are at a higher risk of mental health issues than non-workers. Therefore, it's wise to seek help if you're feeling down at work; your colleagues will understand and wait until you're ready to take on assignments again. Staying at home can help you relax and recover when needed; but it's important to remember that not everything has a place in an anti-work lifestyle.
