The Case Of Steve With Lisa (Part 2)

As the boys were on their way home, they stopped for a big burger at a nearby diner. The burger diner opens early on Sunday mornings for the hungry youngsters streaming out of the disco. Nothing better at 5am than a well-stuffed cheeseburger. Of course, the curious enquiries were not to be missed.

Starting with how well you disappeared. We thought you went home without a word. And then the boys gave a good talking to Steve, as is typical of jealous boys. They couldn't get much out of Steve, because apart from a brief conversation and some dancing, nothing else happened. As soon as Steve let the boys know this, the question came. How is this possible? You could have at least kissed her. You can't miss something like that.

Steve wasn't the kind of guy, who would just kiss a girl. He needs more time to get to the kissing part. After eating the burger, they went down to the subway to catch the tube. There they parted ways as Steve headed in the opposite direction on his way home.

Sunday and the following week were very difficult for Steve. All he could think about was Lisa. Not a day went by, that he didn't think about her. He wondered if she would see her again this weekend. With such doubts, he felt as if time had stood still.

Meanwhile, at Liza's. When Lisa woke up in the afternoon, her sister Elsa asked her:

-How was last night? Did you have a good time?

Lisa: Yes, thank you. I had a great time.

Elsa: You're not very talkative today. Did something happen?

Lisa: No, nothing happened.

With her head down, she continued to sip her coffee, trying to pour some life into herself.

Elsa: I can tell something's wrong with you. Are you sure nothing happened?

Without a word she jumped up and ran up to her room. Elsa was pretty sure, that something was wrong, because that's not the way she usually behaves. She thought she'd question her. She came after her, but Lisa locked the door behind her and a little sob came from her room. Elsa now had no doubt, that something had happened that shouldn't have happened.

In the evening they had dinner together, but Elsa did not question Lisa any more about the previous night, thinking it better to be at peace. Every other Sunday evening, at the usual time of 8:30pm the phone rang.

That must be Alberto. Lisa jumped up and ran to pick up the phone. Alberto and Lisa met two years ago in the Summer, when Lisa was on her two-week holiday in Italy. They met at the very beginning of the holiday and developed a mutual attraction. They talk on the phone every two weeks in the evening at this time, but haven't seen each other since.

The week has slowly passed and it's Saturday again. Steve is looking forward to the evening. The friends are back together and it's disco night. Steve felt almost at home in the disco. He was so excited. He couldn't even pay attention to the boys. He kept one eye on Lisa, hoping to catch a glimpse of her.

He couldn't help himself, he didn't want to waste any time and went off in search of her. It was almost like looking for a needle in a haystack, but he didn't give up. His efforts were not in vain, for he caught sight of Lisa. As if he knew where to look. Lisa wasn't around with boys and that boded well for Steve. This time he was braver and didn't hesitate. He stepped right up to her.

Steve: Hi Lisa. Nice to see you again.

Lisa: Hi Steve. Nice to see you too.

They smiled at each other and after a short chat they dove into the night. They stayed together all night and got so close they danced together to a slow song. They needed no more. The first kiss between the two of them clicked. Steve happily put his arms around Lisa. He was almost sure they would see each other regularly from now on.

That Saturday night passed just as Steve had imagined. Brave luck, he thought and they exchanged phone numbers. He couldn't have asked for a better moment. Steve didn't think much of the boys, so absorbed that they didn't run into each other again until the end of the party. After a little jealousy, they admitted, that they had no say in the matter.

The next few weeks went well. Lisa and Steve saw each other, went everywhere and even invited Steve to the school's closing ceremony, where he had the opportunity to meet Lisa's parents. One Sunday night, however, Lisa made sure she was home before 8:30. It was one of the Sundays, when she waited for Alberto to call.

Steve couldn't understand, why Lisa was in such a hurry to get home so early. He figured, that Sunday night she must be tired and besides, Lisa had school tomorrow. Everything was going well for Lisa and she managed to get home on time. The regular phone call between the two of them had also been arranged.

Lisa was completely confused. She liked Alberto, but since he lives in Italy they can't easily meet. However, she was also fascinated by Steve. She felt it wasn't right what she was doing and decided to tell Elsa what had happened. Elsa listened without saying a word and she didn't think it was right to keep two boys, even though Alberto couldn't interfere directly.

Lisa had to make a decision, and as soon as possible. She knew it wasn't right and she couldn't do it for long. After a bit more wrangling, she finally made a decision and called Steve on the phone.

Steve: Halo?

Lisa: Steve? Hi, I need to talk to you.

Steve: I'm listening, darling.

Lisa: I can't see you anymore.

Painful silence for a few seconds.

Steve: What's wrong?

Lisa: I haven't been very honest with you. I love a guy. Alberto from Italy.

Steve: I don't really understand.

Lisa explained how and when they met and also said, that they can't meet, because of the distance.

Steve: Is that okay with you? I don't want to get into it, but here I am and it seemed like we've been doing well the last few weeks.

Lisa: Yes that's true, but I had to admit to myself ,that I love Alberto.

Steve couldn't understand how Lisa could love someone she had been with for two weeks. They can't even meet. He didn't know what to say. He said he understood and hung up the phone.

They've known nothing about each other ever since. The group of friends remained and Steve never saw Lisa at the party place again, but he didn't expect to. He soon got over the whole thing. He told the boys about Lisa and everything went on as before.

This story was written based on a true event, where Steve was me 20 years ago. All the names in the story are not real names.
