Toward the beginning of the 20th century, psychologist William James wrote about "precognitive" dreams (dreams of potential future events). Dreams can be prophetic and can help you remember for the future. You may be able to remember a precognitive dream, but the insights they offer might be a little murky. Precognitive dreams can be a helpful tool, but can also hold negative connotations. If you have a dream in which someone dies, or something bad happens, it's important to not take it literally, but to view it as a message or symbol. If, however, you have a dream that's so vivid you feel like you're living it, you might want to take a closer look. Some famous people have said, that their dreams have actually brought them to the most important and life changing realizations in their lives.
Definition Of Precognition
Many people today are likely familiar with the term "Precognition" in one way or another. If not, Precognition is defined as:
"The ability to predict the future or the present by using the power of the mind."
There are many variations of this definition, but this one in particular is probably the most common. Precognition is a little hard to pin down though and it is still not entirely certain if it is truly real. Although many experiments have been done, it has never been conclusively proven, that the human mind is able to predict the future.
However, while we may not be able to see the future, we can still affect it. Precognition is the ability to affect the future with the power of the mind, while "Psychic ability" affects the present with the power of the mind. While it would appear, that the apparent difference between these two abilities is only a matter of "power of the mind" and not really any other factor. The difference is actually much greater. Precognition and Psychic ability are in fact two different types of power that exist.
How To Find Out If You Have Precognitive Dreams
There are several types of precognition, that people experience. Your dreams could technically be described as one of these types. A dream of a future event is known as a "precognitive dream."
You have experienced a precognitive dream if:
- You had a dream about the future within a few days of an important future event.
You cannot predict when the future will occur. But you can make a prediction if you've had one of these dreams within the past few days. You can also have these dreams if you have been experiencing stressful life events, or if something really important is about to happen in your waking life. These types of dreams can be a lot more frequent.
It is possible to have a dream about something, that has already occurred, but this is rare. These dreams are not necessarily a good omen. Depending on the type of dream, they can be very accurate predictors of major events. They cannot however be accurately predicted. The future can only be changed if you make the proper changes to your life.
Most importantly, if you have a dream that can accurately predict something in the future, you must not ignore that prediction. Take it seriously and act accordingly. The more frequently you have these types of dreams, the more likely it is, that you have the ability to access information about the future. If you feel you are having these dreams frequently, it is very important, that you do not ignore them.
There are different types of precognitions, that you can have. You will no doubt have different types as you experience them.
- You will have " dreams about future events."
- You will have " nightmares."
- You will have "vivid, visual dreams."
- You will have " cryptic, symbolic dreams."
And many others types of dreams.
If you have a dream, there is a very high likelihood, that you will remember the event. There is some debate as to whether or not this is true, even if you don't remember the dream. On top of the different types of dreams, you may also have varying quality levels of the same type of dream. The commonality among all types of these dreams is that they are messages from the future.
Understand Your Precognitive Dreams
To experience a precognitive dream, you must have these dreams. It's that simple. That being the case, there is no way to actually trigger these types of dreams. Having said that, you can prepare yourself for when you do have a dream, that fits into this category.
First and foremost, you must never ignore a precognitive dream. If you do, the message will be lost and you may never receive a future vision again. Though it is unknown, why you have these precognitive dreams, it is known that these messages are important and there is a reason why you are receiving them. These dreams are probably trying to tell you something. The question is, what is the meaning and how do you stop a future disaster? The answers to these questions are unknown, but you should try to figure them out. It's important that you do.
When you have a precognitive dream, the next step is understanding it.
Step 1: Remember The Dream
For some reason, you will have a precognitive dream. The chances are very small, but it is possible that you won't remember this dream. If that is the case, then you will have no way of knowing if you've had a precognitive dream or not. Though this may be frustrating, it is important that you try your best to remember these dreams.
Step 2: Interpret The Dream
After you remember the dream, your next step is the interpretation of the dream. Though it may seem very simple, dreams are very complex and contain a lot of symbolism. This step is important for several reasons:
- It's the first step to figuring out the meaning behind the dream.
- It's important in assisting you in remembering the dream in the future.
Though it seems, that a lot of insight and importance is placed on this step, dreams are actually very simple to understand. The majority of dreams contain a very simplistic meaning. They are either a warning or one of hope and can be remembered easily. These dreams are often remembered easily, because they contain so much meaning.
The two types of dreams, that contain a more complex meaning (and therefore are usually harder to remember) are ones containing a metaphor and those with symbols.
If the dream contains a metaphor, it is important to look at the surrounding context in which you found the dream. For instance, a ladder might represent the stairs, that you are trying to climb in your walk of life.
Though it may seem confusing, metaphorical dreams are among the easiest to understand.
Symbols are much less common, but can be important to look at. An image in the dream could represent something specific or it could be representative of something abstract. For instance, a key might not be literally a key, but could mean something like a solution or a turning point. It is important to identify the symbols within the dream and try to remember them.
Though these dreams may be remembered with a little effort, most people tend to forget them due to lack of meaning. This is something, that you should try to remember though. If the dream contains a large amount of symbols, it may be best to write them all down.
Step 3: Do Not Ignore The Dream
This is the most important step in determining the meaning of the dream. The reason why dreams are so forgotten is because most people do not take this final step.
Once you have interpreted the dream and the symbols have been found, it is important to remember the dream. It may sound silly, but if you truly remember the dream, it will come true.
