We could be wrong, but sometimes you're not quite sure, what someone means when they say they're addicted to something. There are certain things that people are said to be addicted to, series being one of them. But, what does that even mean? Game of Thrones has been a smash hit from the moment it first aired, with its razor-sharp scripts, compelling storylines, and gorgeously realized costuming and production design, that had us all staring at our screens like we were on some sort of medieval opium rush.

Fans of the series crave the carefully crafted friendships, the fast-paced scenarios, and the always-sparkling romantic chemistry between their favorite characters. Whether they're new to the show or have been around since the beginning, they are often hooked. Series are a popular way for TV viewers to show their love for television shows. Some viewers are addicted to them, but others are content with just following the plot. These are the types of shows, that are watched by people who are not addicted to series.

What Do We Mean By Saying Series Addiction?

People who are addicted to series have a deep seeded obsession with a TV show. They will read articles, forums and comment sections just to keep up on the latest information. They are constantly seeking out new things about the show, consuming any media that has to do with it, or just obsessively thinking about it. All aspects of their life are often intertwined with the show. When watching the show, they get high off of the relationships and drama that unfold. When it's not on, they get negative, tormented vibes.

There is a certain joy, that addicts can get from a TV show. Some addicts are happy just getting the high, that the show gives them, while others need to consume the material constantly in order to get the same effect. Addicts are always searching for more information about their addiction. Whether it's reading the series bible or watching extended cut versions of the show on DVD, addicts will do whatever it takes to keep getting that high.

However not everyone is an addict who loves TV series. Some folks just like watching TV series for the escapism, that they offer. Some folks don't have the time to become deeply invested in TV shows. With a series, you can binge watch an entire show in one day, then set it down for a week before jumping back into the action. Everyone has their own pace, that they prefer when watching TV shows.

Some addicts love the intricate character studies that go into series. It's not enough for them to know about a TV show, they want to know every last detail about the characters involved. They want to know what motivates them, how they feel about each other, and how they end up solving their problems. These are the types of addicts, that will write extensively about characters in their forums or on websites. Other times, they just want to discuss the most obscure details about the show with other fans.

Addicts can also become filling a certain void in their lives. Some people get addicted to the madness, that is forums and online discussions. While others get addicted to the shows themselves, and end up manipulating their lives around them.

How TV Series Can Affect You?

Just like drugs, series can alter your mood, watching too much TV can mess with your head. While watching TV is a wonderful thing, it is important to remember that you still have real problems in the real world. Getting wrapped up in fictional characters can be fun, but can also lead you down a dark path. Once you start thinking about what would happen if this character did this instead of that, you're no longer thinking clearly. You can easily get so caught up in fiction, that you forget that the rest of the world exists, let alone have problems in it.

You can still enjoy TV series without getting addicted. It may take you a few weeks to get into the swing of things, but after a couple of episodes you'll be in TV-induced bliss just like everyone else. Maybe you shouldn't become addicted to TV series. It can be a drug, good or bad, and it's something you need to decide if you really want to go down that road or not.

Is TV Addiction A Bad Thing?

While watching TV can be a wonderful thing, it may also be bad for you. Some shows are more "good for you" than others. Certain types of shows can put you in a better mood, make you laugh, or just give you something to escape for a little while. At the same time though, some shows are just simply bad for you. The vast amount of violence on TV can affect your mood or how you act. The stereotypes that some shows embrace can also cause problems in some cases.

Sadly, some people are just bad for you. You know the type. It can be any kind of person really. Whether they're violent, manipulative, lazy, or just down right selfish, these kinds of people are bad for you. They'll mess up your good mood, or even worse, cause you to become one of these people. This is why it's always best to enjoy TV in moderation. You can have your fill of escapism, just don't let it go to your head.

Do You Need To Binge Watch TV Shows?

You could just watch the latest episode of whatever show you like whenever it airs, but that may not be the healthiest way to watch TV. If you're seriously into a show, there are some benefits to binging watch the entire first run of the show.

For example: If you're watching Game of Thrones and really enjoying it, but you also know that's a show with a lot of violence and graphic content, it may not be the best idea to binge watch it in one day. Sure, you're probably in a fit state of mind to watch it, but the time required to watch an entire series can be unhealthy if you're not in it for the long haul. So maybe, if you wait a month or two to binge watch it, it'll be easier to go through.

Alternatively, if you're a person, that just wants to enjoy a good show without being emotionally invested in it, then binging the first season of a show might be for you. You can just watch a few episodes here and there as you have the time to do so. Then when you're done, you can either wait a month or two before binging the second season, or you can just stop watching altogether. Whatever you decide, don't feel bad about it. Everyone's different, and there's no "one size fits all" approach to watching TV.

Yes as long as you enjoy it that's fine. I found a series from the 80's. I saw that when I was a kid. I watched it again.

I think I said it in my presentation, but Game of Thrones is addicting. Do you know which series I could not stop watching chapter after chapter? Breaking Bad, I watched every season in a row, when I found out it existed. It is simply a masterpiece. One that caught me in its time was Prison Break and 24 hours. Super recommended.
