Blogging started nearly twenty years ago and since then, there have been millions of blogs on the world wide web. The number of published blogs has reached almost 600 million worldwide.
There are many types of blogs exist on the internet. If you're an experienced blogger, you know that blogging can be used in many areas and there are many reasons, why someone might start a blog.
Some people start a blog as a hobby and others do it for a living. Today, the large number of blogs available has made this activity very competitive. Perhaps as new bloggers we may feel, that we are too small compared to the big fish, which may be true, but let's face it, even the most successful blogger had to start somewhere too.
They did not become popular overnight. Although we have to admit, that it was easier in the beginning. Anyone who started blogging in the early 2000's they had a very easy life compared to today's new bloggers.
Why? Because the number of blogs was low and they could easily compete with other bloggers. Today, this is no longer the case. We have to work very hard and write high quality content for our blogs, with the right keywords to get our blogs picked up by the internet search engines.
This can take many months. Anyone who blogs as a hobby is happy to have an audience reading their blogs and discussing it in the comments section. But those who do it for a living, will certainly spend most of their time creating, high quality content and focus their attention on their blog, as it is their way of earning money. In a good case it is one of many other opportunities.
Thanks to the modern technology, you no longer have to buy a domain name, pay for hosting and fiddle with technical settings to start your own blog. Today, we can easily start our own blog, for free and even make money, without having to wait months for someone to read our blogs. Everyone knows what I'm talking about, right? (Wink)
In this article we will look at what types of blogs are common. We will also take a look at the top ten most successful bloggers.
Five Common Type Of Blogs
Personal Blog
It was certainly the first type of blog. When blogging started, people were just getting acquainted with this new channel of information. These blogs were mostly about personal experiences, everyday life, hobbies, which people liked to read, because they found it interesting to peek into other people's lives through their blogs. It's no different today this kind of blog seems to remain evergreen.
Here are a few examples of personal blogs:
Wanderwings, Girl With A Camera, Fifty Coffees
Business Blog
A business blog is perfect to blog about your business and that way gain readers and potential new customers. I remember back in the day, there was a thick phone book for businesses called "yellow pages", where you could find a business you needed. Today, because of the possibility of blogging, a whole new world opened up for businesses to showcase their products or services.
Not only that, but in most cases, visitors are able to create an account on a business website using their email address and phone number. It gives way to the business owner to update their clients sending out newsletters, promote their products or services or offer them current deals.
Affiliate Blog
This type of blogs are not only common, but very popular and can be extremely profitable too. Anybody can create and affiliate blog. This could be a general blog, a niche blog or even just a micro site with several pages.
Affiliates are able to create a nice income through their blogs promoting other people's products or services. This is usually done by promoting digital products or any kind of membership offers for recurring passive income. Commissions are typically high on digital products, because it has been created once and it is available for unlimited access or download. Physical products are common too, usually using Amazon, but there are plenty of other smaller stores are offering affiliate services.
Niche Blog
I mentioned this type of blog above in the affiliate blog section. This can be monetized to make money, usually selling physical products or affiliate marketers often build niche blogs to narrow down the broad topic. It is probably even more profitable, than affiliate blogs. With a niche blog it is easier to compete with other bloggers, because it focuses on a certain topic. Some bloggers or marketers even go furter and build a small micro nich site, that is targeting a very specific audience.
Examples of niche blogs:
Oh She Glows, Cold Climate Gardening
News Blog
News blogs are mainly used by mainstream media, but smaller or independent news agents often use this type of blog. It requires more professional writers, the blog needs to be updated all the time and be accurate as much as it can. Because of all these things, there needs to a be a large team behind the blog and huge amount of budget too.
As you can see this list is already categorized and there are lots of other blogs in each category, such as health and fitness, travel, food, recipes, yoga and the list goes on and on.
