Serena listened to the Boys II Men track that's topping the billboard for the week while she hugged her pillow tight against her chest. It's been two days that Tunde hadn't been picking her calls. She had tried checking up on him at home but his door had been under lock and key for two days. On the first night of the incident, she couldn't sleep. She bit herself severally to have taken a violent approach. Now, she is going to lose the man of her dreams. Her sweetheart and her friend.
Four days earlier. More like, Tunde's sister came visiting from Ibadan. She is studying Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria's premier University. The academic staff of the university had gone on strike over unpaid allowances and the university is shut down indefinitely. Since the students are preparing for their first-semester examination in two weeks, they refused to leave their hostels, with the expectation that the university authorities and the striking lecturers will resolve the matter as soon as possible. It wasn't meant to be. On the third day of the strike action, the police were invited to send all students away from the hostel. To this end, Morenike decided to go to Lagos to stay with her elder brother, Tunde. He was surprised to see her.
Tunde: where are you coming from, Mo?
Morenike: Bros, we were forcefully sent away from school. So, I decided to come to Lagos.
Tunde: You should have called before coming. What if I had gone out of town.
Morenike: At least you're here. And I am here. That solved it all.
Tunde gave Morenike the key to his apartment at Sangotedo, a new developing residential area on the east of the Lagos metropolis. He asked her to go home freshen up and go to the market to prepare dinner. Since Tunde is a bachelor, he would always eat out except if Serena comes to spend the weekend with him. But since Morenike is in town, it's time to eat some homemade meals.
She went to market, bought all the necessary condiments for vegetable stew, and boiled yam, Tunde's favorite meal. As she was on her way back, the weather changed. From a heavy sunny day, it suddenly turns into a black afternoon. Morenike having bought all she needed to buy board a motorcycle instead of a taxi to beat the looming heavy downpour. She was buying time, she got home in the process before the rain came down.
It rained continuously for hours. Since it was not going to stop drizzling, staff of organizations had to sacrifice their clothes and came out in their numbers all around Lagos to beat the already building traffic. It was a tug of war getting a gab going to his axis.
More like had waited for Tunde to get back home so they could eat dinner together, the table is set but Tunde is nowhere near home. So, Morenike just laid on the sofa, waiting for Tunde.
The bus stop all over town had a lot of people waiting for buses going in different parts of Lagos. Fortunately for Tunde, a friend who was in another friend's car called out to join them. He was so glad for the lift. Despite that, he got home at 8:00 pm.
When he arrived home, Morenike had already slept on the sofa. Tunde just rushed to the bathroom to have a shower before coming to devour the vegetable stew and boiled yam on the table. While Tunde was still in the shower, Serena walked into Tunde's apartment, seeing Morenike and got humiliated by her beauty began to question at the top of her voice.
Serena: Who are you? What the heck are you doing with my man? You have been the one distracting him from his responsibilities, right.
Serena went on and on. She wouldn't even allow Morenike to respond to any of her questionings. Before you knew it, she got violent and threatening to beat up Morenike if she doesn't leave the apartment immediately. Tunde had to rush out from the bath with his towel tied around his waist. This is becoming too much of Serena, how on earth would she behave to her sister in such a harsh manner.
Angrily, Tunde asked her to leave his apartment. When Serena realized that she had overreacted, she tried appealing to Tunde but he asked her to leave for the moment. And since then Tunde has refused to see Serena. She had always been a nagging fiancé especially when she finds her lady around him.
She should have atleast ask. Why do we always like to conclude things? _
