Forgetting Is Natural.
Sometimes ago, I attended a programme where the resource person emphasise on the usability of the human brain. He mentioned that until an average man dies, he will not be able to use 20% of the capacity of his brain. It is from this analogy that I deduced that an average man have the capacity to forget something that he once has the knowledge of.
Forgetting is the inability to remember a course, event or item that you once possessed or kept in your custody, or at your instance. Many times, after reading for an examination, everything one had read over night would just disappear from the Medulla Oblongata. You know, I wonder why people (myself included) forget certain important things.
A few years ago, I picked my children up from school on my way back from work. On this fateful day, picked them and we joined a tricycle only to drop off, forgetting to pick their lunch boxes which had been kept by me on the carrier in the back of the tricycle. Unfortunately, the children did not look aty hands as we were all in a hurry to leave the crowded bus stop and venture into our street.
When we arrived at our abode, we noticed almost at the same time that we had forgotten the lunch boxes in the tricycle. It was quite sad to have forgotten the boxes. Since the children will be going to school the next day and would need to have their food and snacks packed into their lunch boxes, I have to hurry out to buy them new lunch boxes.
My wife wasn't happy with the whole situation and I tried to avoid a conversation around it. Eventually, I went to get new boxes. The kids were happy that they have new lunch boxes with the trending designs, not minding whose ox is gored.
However, there could be many reasons people tend to forget. Here are some reasons.
Memory Decay
When the memory of an event and occurrence is weak, remembering or reinforcement can be hampered. This may be due to lack of attention or traffic in the activities we are engaged in for a period of time.
Age
As people grow older and become responsible for themselves and others, it is possible to forget. Age is a factor to be considered and with them, our level of consciousness and remembering begin to reduce due to age. Age is a natural course, it isn't a problem when such happens, we can only increase our levels of remembering by using manual methods such as writing or taking memory enhancing medication.
Too Many New Information
This could act as interference with what you already have kept to memory.
Stress
One thing that stress does to a man is to cloud his memory and make them look like they have never heard or seen things or even before.
Lack of Attention
One big cause of forgetfulness is the inability of people to listen to a talk or instruction. Divided attention too is a reason why people may find it difficult that an information has been shared before or that an event has taken place already.
In a nutshell, the reason why people forget may be due to a natural cause or the attitude the person has imbibed overtime. Most act of forgetfulness come with consequences. This is why we should ensure to be attentive and be ready to listen to details before taking off our minds, ear and eyes from an event or happening .
