Nnamdi served as an apprentice in Onitsha with Mazi Obidike. He is specialized in importing pharmaceutical products from Europe and Asia. Most times, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency screens what is imported into the country to ensure the standard in contents of the products. Corruption has since engulfed the whole agency, such that the officers who were supposed to ensure standards began to compromise and sub-standard pharmaceutical products flooded the entire city and nation as a whole.
Nnamdi also learned the process his boss Obidike applies in the process so that his goods are not confiscated at the wharf.
On one occasion, when there was a change of officers in the Lagos Tin Can wharf, Obidike's containers of sub-standard Artesunate drugs were seized. The container is worth hundreds of millions in Naira ( Naira is Nigeria's local currency). Instead of making the sleeping dog lie, he consulted superior officers who had become his partner in crime to ensure the release of his seized containers at Tin Can Wharf. For this release to be effected, the newly transferred officers were transferred so that other corrupt officers would facilitate the release of the seized container.
After seven years that Nnamdi had served his boss Obidike, he was settled with a new shop in Asaba in the heart of Delta state, the country home of Mazi Obidike. Before you knew it, his business had expanded with coverage to all parts of the northern states.
He is quite a success when appraised in the amount of wealth he has acquired.
At a time in the social life of some classes of youths, a drug called tramadol is highly abused in major cities of the world. In Nigeria, the drug is enlisted as contraband but some importers are crooked by importing it for selfish gains. The profits many traders of this drug makes are abnormal. So, their greed increases because they want to make more money.
Atlantic College where Mazi Obidike's son attends, some support staff was sneaking some of these drugs into the school and some students became users. Anslem, Mazi Obidike's son is a gentle but brilliant boy. Every prep time, the students go to the class area to study. Most times, what occurs during prep is mere jamboree. While others go to some secret places to take drugs like tramadol. The consequence of the drug on users is that it makes them dizzy and sleep for a very long time. Soon, their academics performance begins to drop and the school authorities begin to wonder what the actual problem could be. How the school explains to parents that their wards failed after paying a heavy amount of school fees.
Anslem is a regular boy who just wants to experience college vibes not be told what he missed while in college. Most guys had girlfriends, he had one too. She is prettier because Anslem is handsome some too. He was quite a brilliant lad.
One day during prep, he walked into a group of boys sharing the substance. He didn't know what it was but he asked to be given one. The boys, led by one GMK asked him to be a financial member of the group to get a supply of the drug regularly. Anslem agreed, hence all he was given was a dose.
The routine continued for a school term and the guys were having a time of their lives. Two days into the termly examinations, Afam-one of the users of the drugs started to behave in some strange manner. After several medical checks, the school. could not come to the knowledge of what the problem was. So, they asked the parents to come to pick their ward. Afam was talking to a specialist hospital where it was detected that he had been using some substance.
All students have gone home on holiday. When Anslem got home, he introduced his younger brother Obinna to using the drugs. Two weeks into taking the substance, Obinna fell seriously ill that he almost died.
As the medical team at St. Nicholas hospital rushed to save his life, they find the contents of hard drugs in his bloodstream. So, they wanted to flush his system. They requested for a flushing syrup from the pharmacy to administer on Obinna. In the long run, they got the sub-standard. Obinna died in the hospital due to application of sub-standard drug his father had imported.
Anslem on the hand went psychic because he continued abusing those contrabands his father had cunningly imported into the country.
Mazi Obidike was devastated. He couldn't recall how it all started but he has felt the hit.
