Leadership comes with a great task of responsibility to deliver on the job and to do this a lot of requisites must be fulfilled. As you all know, lion is the king of the jungle. When a lion roars, the whole wild scamper for life. From the foregoing, a leader is supposed to be a protector of the followers. Leadership begins from the smallest unit of life, the family. The leadership style from the home gives birth to different styles of followership in the society. And when a leader resumes as a lion, he is not meant to tear the flock apart. By lion here, I mean the following:
The leader is not afraid of confrontation. There may be uprising of confrontation in the process of leading the entourage in actualizing set goals. When the team is confronted from any side of the park, the leader receives all and sort it out on behalf of the team.
Leaders are always growing. Just like the lion, a leader ought to from time to time learn skills that helps him able to attend to threat against the park, or team.
A leader launches forth before success is certain. We don’t become leaders to watch from a distance on the drive to achieve success. As a leader, you take the lead in reaching the climax of achievement for the group.
A good name is better than silver and gold. As a leader one must secure his name by being sincere in his approach to solving organizational problems. The leader guards his reputation jealously from anything that could dent it. When a leader’s name is dented, his leadership qualities becomes questionable.
Mistakes will come. The leader may not accept all mistakes as his but he speaks of his mistakes first before someone else’s.
Leaders are servants. I had a personal experience here. My immediate boss came to work one day and found that the dunghill where the conglomerate dispose their refuse have not been properly taken care of, he alighted from his car and demanded for hand gloves and shovel, before you could say Jack Robinson, the whole place was cleared off. From that day onward, that place never remained the same, simply because our boss has taken the lead of a servant, he undertook the lowest job and did it beyond our imagination.
Accountability is one watchword that a leader must not lost. He or she would have to be free from any fraud related matters. Keeping record of all issues so clarity is an essential part of the roles of a leader.
A good leader must aim never to murmur about one follower to another. He or she should be able to lead the group without having favorites, with that the group understands that the leader is fair to all and treating them with as deserving.
Remember that leadership is like being pregnant. You must be able to give birth to an offspring that looks like you. Since leadership is a continuum, the leader must work tirelessly to instill qualities into the followers. Passing on the baton is very essential as there will be no leader for ever. If you want the best kind of experience when you are retired, begin from now to building a good team of followers who will take over from you satisfactorily.
