The City Council on Saturday (July 21, 2018) placed this city under a state of calamity due to massive flooding that required the evacuation of residents in severely affected areas.
Resolution No. 5651 says flooding was caused by four-days of torrential rains dumped by the southwest monsoon and the prevailing low-pressure area affecting Luzon.
A breach in the dike along Sinocalan River, which traverses Sta. Barbara town, also raised the flood levels.
Close to a hundred villages in 14 towns and cities have been flooded since Thursday (July 19) due to continuous rains, according to the provincial disaster risk reduction and management council.
All of the people were affected by the flood. Our barangay is not new when it comes to flood. For the second time, after ten years, the flood knocked through our house. Before the flood entered the house, we already prepared. We moved all the furniture upstairs. Then I was in the living room monitoring the flood. I relaxed a bit and was playing Naruto Online on my laptop back then when i noticed the floor is wet.
I hurried putting my laptop upstairs and put some cloths to stop the flood from getting in but the bathroom was also flooded. We had no choice but leave it as be.
We also garaged my father's motorcycle inside our house because it was getting deeper.
Upstairs, we do our cooking, luckily we had a terrace with a faucet and took bath there. We also had toilet on the next floor so we have no problem
Year 2019, the government raised the road for flood control but it was raised exaggeratedly so we also raised our ground equal to the road this 2020 when we know how high became the road is.
