Daily wildlife photography: the crested fireback, Lophura ignita. Crested firebacks are pheasants, found in southeast Asia. There is a marked sexual dimorphism (meaning males and females have different plummage patterns), and I was so lucky to see them both! This couple appeared while I was doing a hiking trail in Taman Negara, Malaysia. I saw the male first, with the cute crest and that beautiful metalic blue colour, and only spotted the female later, hidden among the foliage. I think they were also surprised to see me, but didn't rushed to escape, and slowled faded into the jungle.
