Money, friend or foe
Many have given thought to this question and have come up with different conclusions based on various reasons, viewing money as a friend or a foe.
Today I would like to share my opinion on this topic, showing why money can be our friend and also be our foe. Then suggest how money should be viewed and treated.
History of money.
The use of money first started in form of the barter exchange popularly known as "trade by barter", this is when one exchange something (food, wood, salt, meat) or even services for something else or someone's services. It then advanced to a type of currency developed over the centuries that involved easily traded items like animal skins, salt, and weapons. Then the use of special metals, to coin money, then paper money. And now cripto currency is being used as a medium of exchange.
Use of money
Money is used for various functions and has several advantages as listed below:
Money is used as a means of exchange: Without money, if you wanted food, you’d need to find someone who had food who was willing to trade it in exchange for a service you could directly provide, or for a product you could produce. Bartering transactions like this are cumbersome and inefficient, not to mention a less reliable means of getting the things you need.
Money gives you freedom. When you have enough money, you can live where you want, take care of your needs, and indulge in your hobbies. If you are able to become financially independent and have the financial resources necessary to live on without working, you’ll enjoy even more freedom since you will be able to do what you want with your time.
Money gives you the power to pursue your dreams. Having money makes it possible for you to start a business, build a dream home, pay the costs associated with having a family, or accomplish other goals you believe will help you live a better life.
Money gives you security. When you have enough money in the bank, you’ll never need to worry about having a roof over your head or about having enough to eat or about being able to see a doctor when you’re sick. This doesn’t mean you’ll be able to afford everything you want, but you’ll be able to enjoy a stable middle-class life
Due to these reasons and more, many have concluded that money is vital for life, and therefore a friend to man.
Demerits of money
But money has its backside which makes others view money as a threat to humanity. Let us consider a few:
Obsession with money, or a love of money, can create a host of problems. Trying to acquire money at all costs, or constantly trying to acquire as much money as you can, could lead you to unethical or even criminal behaviour, such as theft or scamming others. It could also cause you and your family problems if you focus too much on money or material things at the expense of other people and things in your life. If all you have is money, but you have no one to share your life with and nothing to enjoy, you’re unlikely to be happy.
Money can lead to disagreements: When you and your partner or family members don’t agree on what should be done with money, this can cause substantial friction in your life. In fact, money is one of the leading causqes of divorce for American couples.
Money causes greed: many have become materialistic and have developed a "must have" attitude. They have an unceasing urge to buy things and be up to date, following the trend on ground and imitating their celebrity star. This has caused them to do many unruly things to get the money needed to meet their unlimited wants.
Due to this, money has come to be viewed as a foe, which could eventually lead to the downfall of man.
Proper view of money
Considering these facts, I have come to a conclusion on the proper view of money. Money is neither a friend or a foe to man, but rather a tool under man's control.
Yes it all depends on how we use it. We shouldn't let it control us, rather we need to put it in place, check ourselves to see if we loose our mind or go wild when money is involved.Let's all endeavour to gain mastery over money.
