The Turtle Rock Home

In the beginning there was darkness and the great void of space with only the stars to see by. There were planets in our solar system but it was still a relatively new galaxy. In that time of formation a giant turtle roamed the heavens carrying the star people tar from other worlds. It had a strong outer shell so that it did not feel the cold. It could move fast in the skies and explored the universe looking for new life. The star people who had tamed it and who rode with the beast were an inquisitive race. They had been waiting and travelling thousands of years before they ever came across Earth. Our rich little jewel of a planet shone brightly, and the turtle mistook it for a pearl. He dove towards it from a great distance and as he approached he found it was a planet. The star people asked him to land and they dropped from the skies one starry night and appeared to Man.

When Man saw the turtle swim out of the skies and land in the water they were curious indeed. They were a primitive race but they had a culture rich in its connection to the Earth and Nature. They watched as the turtle bathed in the great seas of their homeland and did not see it as a threat. They were used to respecting the skies, seas, land and the winds of change. It was natural that there would be other giant beings with the power of birds to fly and the size of a whole pod of whales that swim. They were excited that it should trust them enough to make itself known to them. They brought it many offerings, and yet scowled on some cultures who would later sacrifice human lives to the creatures that came with it. These Sky or Star People as they called them emerged from the shell of the giant turtle. They were unlike anything the locals had ever met before, but they were peaceful and so were welcomed willingly into their midst. At first communication was difficult, but with signing and drawing gradually a friendship was born and a trust developed. They said they came from what the Native American tribes referred to as The Pleiades and a world named Tiyami.

The Strangers brought with them many wondrous things and were guarded about their knowledge. They said to the Natives we protect our secrets from the great misuse Man could put them to." But the locals scoffed at such scepticism for they openly shared what food, knowledge and love they had with all who asked or needed it. So from the start there was always an awareness of their differences. But all the time the giant turtle floated out at sea and was still. Later when bonds had been established and their ways shared the Strangers said they must return home and it would take a longtime. They would not be back in their lifetime, but that the locals must tell their children and grand children about all they had shared. There were others they must check on, and we were not alone in the great universe. They would be back, as they were leaving behind a small amount of others to explore our planet and those close by. They would collect these others in many decades time, and as the giant turtle ascended once again to the heavens, it gave birth to many smaller ones in the night sky. These dropped to the water to swim in the great oceans and Were rarely seen again.

Some cultures who met those Star People that were left to explore exalted the beings. lt was said the great turtles they travelled in were their homes but the Strangers always lett after gathering what they needed. They became a more guarded people as Man grew more greedy and warlike. After the Great Flood which wiped out the avarice of Man it was only a few sightings ever made of the giant turtles. Most cultures had forgotten their connections with the descent of Man. Only pictorial and oral traditions remained, and these went into decline With the aftermath of the Flood. t was said that the Star People were collected shortly after that, and had seen all they needed to of Man. What their conclusions were we shall never know, for they were never forthcoming in sharing their information. Only one turtle remained. It was found dead in the water and the Star People had abandoned it. In time part of the upper shell broke off and corroded. It became like stone and was washed up on a beach far away. There was nothing other than the shell left, ned upside down and solid on the shore. It was this very shell that they decided to build their home on.

Atul and Priya had always dreamed of a home by the sea that they loved so much. They were a young couple and ambitious, and they were oddly averse to a more modern way of living. They tried to build the house with it blending into the surroundings, but solid enough to withstand the great sea gales that would batter it. The foundations had to be solid, and there was none more solid or suitable than Turtle Rock as it had become known by. When it was thatched there were many seabirds tried nesting under its eaves or tried stealing the twigs. But none Were ever that successful for it was well built and lucky. They felt this luck in many ways. The rock never crumbled or moved and always stayed well above the waterline. It felt at peace and most insects and birds seemed to avoid it, as it it gave off some sort of invisible power to keep them at bay. Never more so than at night when it seemed to feel alive. Great energy Vibrations of an unseen force permeated the air but felt good to them both. They'd felt it on the first night they discovered the rock and lay there on a blanket looking up at the stars. It felt like home then, and now it felt even more so. They would proudly sit on their verandah and wave to passersby and invite them up for drinks and a chat. It became a place people began to love, and it seemed the old ways flourished at Turtle Rock.

And it was one day on a beautiful Summer's night that Atul and Priya were sat by porch light and candles holding hands and listening to the crashing waves. The salt spray rarely reached them but there was generally a cooling breeze and the smell of the sea that they loved. It was late and it was quiet and they sat happily in that peaceful silence that good company allows when there is a bond between people. When it happened they were amazed, for they'd never known about it before. Nobody had ever talked of it. Though the beach had been pretty secluded it had become more popular now they both had made their home. But here very late at night few others had cause to VIsit. Yet strangers had come this night. Hundreds of great turtles started swimming to the beach and striving up the sand. They came in their droves under the cloak of dark and in the moonlight Atul and Priya were overjoyed to watch them. There would be hatchlings and they would be careful to protect the eggs until they emerged. They always felt they were able to contribute more to the Earth and Nature. They smiled in the night, thanking the universe for their great fortune. But it wasn't the universe they had to thank. It was their Turtle Rock. The shell of the great craft was humming in a vibration unheard to Man. It was like a huge amplifier calling to some creatures and repelling others. It was a beacon too and though they didn't realise it, it could be detected by other craft searching for the matter it was made of. No other Giant Turtles ever sailed the skies and heavens nearby these days, but one day they might. And if they did they'd find Atul and Priya much like those Natives of First Contact, attuned to Mother Earth and giving of love and hospitality.

Sometimes we don't always know why we feel drawn to a place, nor do we have to know the answers to everything. It is enough to be as content with your lite as were our earliest ancestors. Richness of the soul isn't about wealth but of other more rewarding things. There is always someone who will know more, who has more and seems more able. But what you decide to feel inside is governed by you, and it is this message the Star People left With our Founders. It was the wisest truth they were willing to share from their travels over vast space and their involvement with numerous species. The message had been forgotten with time, but on Turtle Rock the hope of it lives on. We are never so far away from our roots and the buried truth or answers as we may think. Listen my friends, hold the conch shell of life to your car and just open your spirit to hear it... you're not alone..we are here!
