In recent years, major cities around the world have been plagued by an avalanche of books, photos, films, shows and programs depicting sex as a form of entertainment. This is known as "pornography" and has grown into a billion dollar business in the United States alone.

Some argue that pornography is harmful, others argue that it is harmless. Indeed, the Committee on Profanity and Pornography appointed by the US President has expressed the opinion that American adults should "read or see the sexual material of their choice."

What is the truth on the subject? Is Pornography Really Harmful? In order to answer this question well, we need to find someone with full authority to speak on the subject. This is why the Bible perspective is so important, because Scripture contains "the Word of God," not the imperfect man.

The Bible shows that Jehovah God created reproductive organs for honorable marriages. Therefore, it is perfectly normal for people to want to know how it works. But the person should be careful when receiving information about sex. Much of what is written on this subject is false and contradicts the Word of God. Pornography is one example.

But does the Bible talk about pornography? He repeatedly warns about nea pornography, a Greek word associated with pornography. Greek lexicographers state that porneí · generally referred to illegal sex, without a more precise definition. It has a broad meaning and contains “unnatural dependencies”. . . Sodomy. "(New Testament Theological Dictionary) For this reason, the translators of the Bible translate this word in various ways, such as" fornication "," gross immorality "," sexual immorality "," sexual sins "or similar expressions.

It can be argued that there is a difference between reading or watching pornography and committing sexual sins. But is the difference really that big? Jesus said it “comes from the heart. . . Fornication "and that you may even commit adultery" in your heart. This is because desire arises in the heart. When someone spoils the need for something that God forbids by reading it or keeping it in mind, the need can become overwhelming. There may come a time when you commit a sin “in your heart”. How is it? Because you have intentionally dragged yourself to the point that you are totally motivated to do what you envisioned, and you will do it when you get the chance.

With good reason, the Bible gives advice similar to Colossians 3: 5: "Then kill those parts of your body which are on the earth for idolatry for fornication, uncleanness, sexual desire, harmful lust, and greed." How can you do that Ephesians 5: 3 says, "Do not speak of fornication, uncleanness of any kind, or greed of one another." This would include all "mentions" of such things, whether in conversation, in movies, on stage, or in print for sensual pleasure. Therefore, the Bible does not only prohibit sexual immorality. It also cautions against the steps that lead to such actions.

What about pornography now? Can anyone deny that pornography includes the term “fornication and defilement of all kinds”? That alone makes him dangerous. But the damage does not end there. In an interview, a convicted sex offender admitted, “You want to practice what you read”. Another said of adult films, "I would like to go to one of them and then go attack every woman."

Of course, not everyone is so easily affected by the perversion. However, Professor Ernest van den Haag of New York University warned: “Many adults are far from the sane, self-controlling types suggested by libertarian theory itself. You can easily get a last (or first) copy of obscene literature. ""

Author Gladys Denny Shultz mentions another negative effect of pornography: “It gives a false false impression about the gender and behavior of normal, civilized men and women. The inevitable is that pornography positions sexually ill people as role models and emphasizes bestiality, perversion, cruelty, as if it were the norm. However, in Ephesians 4:25, God's Word says, "Set aside lies, and tell the truth to all your neighbor."

The Bible encourages its readers: "Above all, intense love for one another." (1 Peter 4: 8) Pornography directly contradicts this warning. In what direction did psychiatrist Dr. Fredric Wertham: “In general, the trend in pornographic literature is against sadism, against brutality. . . . There were sadistic murders where it was proven in court that the killer used sadistic pornography as a manual. Do you want to saturate your mind with material that has hurt others so much?

Pornography can even make someone guilty of idolatry. How is that possible? Because it promotes a form of lust that "is idolatry." The Bible interpreter explains the meaning of the Greek word for "lust" (pleonèxi significatoa) as follows: "sensual complacency", which is satisfied with the expenses of all others. "Pleonian is" only interested in satisfying his own impulses. "

Pornography encourages this kind of selfishness. Author Irving Kristol, who writes for New York Times Magazine, explains: “The sexual pleasure that comes from pornography and desecration is autoerotic [self-generated and direct]. . .; To be very clear, it is an exercise in imagination when it is not direct masturbation. Therefore, pornography can make a person's carnal appetite an object of worship. In fact, he becomes an idol.

Pornography is really harmful. There is a misconception about God's gift of sex and its proper use in an honorable marriage; it leads to sexual sins committed "in the heart" or openly. It encourages sadism and brutality and can even make someone become a self-worshiper. How much affection for Jehovah God who warns us of this and who in his word conveys things "true, serious, just, coffin, virtuous and praiseworthy"!
