Today, we're going to talk about the marine life, and it's awful enemy, the human's garbage.

As far as we're concerned, there are plenty of animal species living inside the ocean, be it an animal, an insect or even a plant, and the lifestyle deep down is similar to what we're used to, which is eat, sleep & repeat. And by far, dumping our garbage in the depth of the ocean will result in a poor lifestyle or even death, for our beloved marine friends.

In this article, we will learn the importance of keeping the ocean clean, and giving the marine life a better existence.

1 - Marine debris

Marine debris, or sea litter, is the problem consisted of waste, created by the human-beings that has deliberately or not, been relinquished in the depth of the sea, lake or ocean, made up from things like plastic bottles and/or bags, food wrappers, food cans and more. This is a serious issue that is putting our marine life in danger.

2 - Different types of marine litter

There are plenty of different types of human garbage thrown into the depth of the oceans, and some of them includes:

• Plastic bags - Simply causes the marine animals to regularly be tangled up in the bags.

• Plastic straws - Which can be swallowed by the animals and can threaten their lives or choke them to death.

• Forks and knives - Useful tools that can seriously injure or even kill an animal if thrown in the sea.

• Paper bags - Paper bags are actually as bad, or even worst than plastic bags dumped in the sea. Paper bags contain a higher carbon footprint than the plastic bags.

• Food containers - Throwing food cans and wraps into the sea will result in them sitting in the bottom. Some of them aren't even bio-degradable. The problem is that this will potentially lead to the animals being choked after ingesting them by thinking it's food, which is cruel.

• Cigarettes - Cigarettes are unhealthy and bad for the humans and for the animals. The sea creatures can ingest them along with the toxins by mistakenly identifying them as food.

3 - The pollution's negative effect on the marine life

The pollution in the ocean have a bad effect on the marine's lifestyle, and on our life too. Heavy metals for example, can pile up in fish or other sea species, which are as well food for humans, making it harmful for us to consume. Oil spills on the other hand, will suffocate the marine animals by permeating their gills, and the animals that are not killed by the oil may suffer from cancer, or become unable to reproduce. Phosphorus in addition, dumped in seawater, will cause oxygen depletion. If a massive amount of oxygen emptiness occurs in one area of the ocean, it can become a hypoxic zone where no marine life can survive.

4 - Human beings are affected

Humans are also affected by the marine litter, one way is that tiny marine creatures ingest toxins in the sea, which are then eaten by larger sea predators that many of which are seafood that we probably eat, and when the toxins in contaminated animals gets inside the human body, it can lead to cancer and birth defects.

5 - Loss of aesthetic value

Oceans are beautiful. They bring joy to our hearts and are great for mental health. By simply having a walk on the beach, our minds get peace. Less stress means a better life, but with marine litter being dumped into the water, our nature's smoothing beaches will lose their aesthetic value, making them less appealing to the eye, with a not so pleasing smell.

The marine life is worth having a better life, just like we do.
