This Battle Mage Secrets Challenge Was A Thorn In My Bum
The classic weekly battle challenge retired to make way for the Battle Mage Secrets series, making it more entertaining. This new set-up adds a focus on dynamic strategies, as players will be able to choose from a greater selection of more diverse units to bring into battle.
Let's enjoy the Briar Patch ruleset, where the monsters receive the Thorns ability at the start of the battle. Melee attacks will receive damage back, so the focus will be on ranged and spellcasters. May the gods of random be in my favor!
Burn Bright and Burn Right!
Thorns are deadly when played right, as the damage returned is equal to damage of the attacker divided by 2 and then rounded up.
The melee attack monsters with the Reflection Shield ability do not take damage from thorns and the Amplify ability will increases the damage.
The Briar Patch battle-rule was doubled up by Taking Sides, and no neutral cards couldn't be selected for this fight.
Qid Yuff: Piercing for all friendly monsters
Radiated Scorcher: Melee with Shatter
Scorch Fiend: Zero-Mana Melee
Djinn Inferni: Caster with Giant Killer
Djinn Apprentice: Caster
Efreet Elder: Caster with Last Stand
The reasons behind the team selection were clear, with the Radiated Scorcher and the Scorch Fiend being selected to delay the casters being damaged. Was pointless to select Tarsa as a summoner, and swapped the bonus to Piercing.
The back line was made out of strong summoners, and gambling that the Efreet Elder will end up as ... last standing!
Lot of damage was dealt in the first round, with my decoys serving the purpose. I managed to take down one of the opponent tanks and that Celestial Harpy will die from thorns damage soon enough.
At the start of round three it didn't look great, as the team was down to only the Efreet Elder. Will Last Stand change the tides of the battle? The Celestial Harpy will be down next time it attacks and then is a matter of luck and random.
Last Stand transformed the Elder into a 12 health beast with 2 magic power. It looked overpowered, and it was overpowered.
Finally the Harpy died from thorns damage and was game over when the Pelacor Arbalest was the only enemy left. See the full battle here!
