The Splinterlands Rebellion - Sneak Peeks, New ATH For Health Points And Formidable Foes!
The Rebellion is here! New deadly units, beefy tanks with record-breaking health, pirates, dual-element summoners and chaos... an insane amount of chaos! The Splinterlands will shift into a new conflict and you have to choose a side!
We all lose sneak peaks and I must say we've been spoiled with a constant flow of card previews for the new Rebellion units or summoners. It is clear that the new abilities will force us to create new tactics and explore new strategies, as the winds of change will blow away the Chaos Legion veterans. Bring it on!
There will cataclysmic destruction and the new monsters will want their share of glory! Spoiler alerts and previews were dropping hot over the last few weeks, and new cards were shared post by post! The first treat had alpha about the Gobalano Soldier, a powerful unit that will destroys armor and will attacks before the battle even begins, and other crazy units. The OP Infernal Firestorm tank, the Chaos Animator or the Anasth Soothsayer will create new amazing set-ups... but I am buzzing for the new summoners!
Zeddica is the first dual-element summoner, allowing players to use cards from both Death and Water elements. I like her already... as both elements are strong in my deck! I will be able to create some insane strategies, like using the Djinn Oshannus with the stealth Magi Necorsi!
Acording to the lore, the sorceress Zeddica Blackthorn was an underlord in the Belurocian military who served in Overlord Slade’s command. She's a betrayer, and she was picked as one of Slade's captains. Now, she and her company of legionnaires help to ensure the citizens of Fireboro remain subdued.
Prophet Rosa is the first Tactics summoner, offering choices to give shield or buffs to units. After you and your opponent's teams are revealed, you'll have the choice of Shield to one of your units or +2 ranged to two of your units! What would you prefer?
According to the lore, Rosa is a prophet and tribal leader among the bluehair minotaur of the Ujurak tribe. Her tribe came to Praetoria from Azmare, and at first, they thrived on an abundance of natural resources.... before the Chaos Legion came!
She had a vision that gave her clues that a path to ending the Chaos Empire’s reign of terror lies to the south, somewhere in the bleak expanse of the Drybone Badlands. Prophet Rosa prepares to embark on a perilous pilgrimage and a journey of faith to free her tribe!
The second sneak peak article introduced the Mar Toren Seeker, the perfect second-position unit for the Target Practice ruleset—or anytime your opponent comes at you with Snipe. His Dodge and Phase means he can stand up against even magic attacks. Or maybe you prefer the Moxian Rebel with the ability to give full attack power to adjacent units!
The Redwyrm Dragon is one of Rebellion’s absolute beasts, with Flying, Immunity and Immobolize! But the big alpha comes now ... what units have Protect and Repair and can be used in the Little League ruleset? From Alpha to Rebellion, there's only one, and that's Runeseer Sevaya!
According to the lore, Sevaya and her Riftwatcher compatriots have followed in the wake of Silus of the Rift and his legions of Chaos across numerous realms. They collected the scraps and the survivors, bolstering their combat power and preparing for the day when they would stand against their mortal enemies. Like Doctor Strange... she has seen the possible futures! Most lead to ruin, and only a handful do not!
More sneak peaks were shared at the end of November, when four more cards where unwrapped. It was a delight for the battle mages, as they could imagine how the Ulundin Overseer, Pirate of Eight, Croire or the Chaos Golem would fit into new deadly combos.
This is the new All-Time High when it comes to health! The Ulundine Overseer is now the beefiest unit in the game, with 17 health at maximal level and 10 armor points. Bring the big guns as this guy is ready to protect his team! He has the Flank ability from level one, giving the Reach ability to the unit in the second position!
The Overseer can turn a second position melee powerhouse into a destroyer, shredding apart your opponent’s tank. Maybe use Weapons Training to grant melee attack to this absolute unite and transform the weighty enforcers into slayers! The Ulund are massive, with the earth trembling when leading the charge. However, their physical efforts largely consists of simply standing firm and to create an impenetrable barrier!
We all love pirates! Arhhhhhh! Above all... we love pirates that will help us win battle! Say "Ahoy Matey!" to the Pirate of Eight, a four-mana unit with Reach and Blast! The infamous crew of Captain Corin Drace are the bane of the three seas of Praetoria, raiding the ships for fun!
We talked above about Flank and Weapons Training, and how this new abilities are game-changers. Well... Croire has both... and Heal when upgraded! The reptilian thug can help no attack units to pick up a weapon and will encourage them to slice whatever is ahead. Croire lives his crime infused existence on the streets of Mox City, trying to avoid a trip to the gallows
The Chaos Golem is another formidable tank from the Rebellion set, with five attack power and 11 health points at level four. It has Retaliate and Return Fire to tear up the opponent’s melee and ranged attackers, plus the Enrage ability when it gets damaged.
This mechanical behemoth will create havoc with every swing! They are the pride of the chaos animator Tenni Mayla, a blend of magic and mechanics that serve the Chaos Empire as voiceless, tireless, and highly lethal sentinels.
Everything changes, and the Rebellion got bigger. It started as a single drop and now it's a tidal wave! The survivors are gathering their forces and the conflict will escalate!
Each Rebellion pack contains five cards, with at least one guaranteed rare card. I am a poor battle mage, one of those that will pick small tasks for an extra coin, and all that I could afford during the pre-sale was two packs! The standard price per pack was 5000 DEC, but I was able to spend VOUCHER tokens in order to receive a discount on the base price. Each VOUCHER token used reduced the price by 200 Credits / DEC and the maximum discount available using VOUCHER tokens will be 20%.
I grinded hard, done some side hustles ... but all I was able to do ... was to gather 8000 DEC and a bag of Vouchers. I was able to use 10 Vouchers and reduce the price from 10,000 DEC to only 8,000, and bought 2 Rebellion packs. Hope the gods of random will be kind to me and the 20% chance for Grimbardun Smith will be enough to get this promo card. Can't wait for the set to go live, and to see what's hiding in those two packs.
The dual-element summoners, summoner tactics and new unit abilities are bringing a chaotic twist. The dual element summoners will allow the summoning from two elements on the same team. Also, the Rebellion Summoners will also feature a new mechanic called Summoner Tactics, where players can choose between two sets of buffs or debuffs after both players reveal their teams.
We already covered Flank, but there are three more abilities added with Rebellion: Armored Strike, Corrosive Ward and Lookout. Armored Strike will allow units with this ability to gain an ADDITIONAL Melee attack using the Armor stats
Corrosive Ward is like Acid Thornes and the nemesis to Repair! You can't Repair something that's been melted into acidic goo! When the unit with this ability is hit by melee attack, will do 2 damage to the attacker's Armor AND will also reduce the max Armor of the attacker by 2. It's a no-brainer!
The Lookout ability will protect support units! The card with this ability will help adjacent allies to take one less damage from Opportunity, Sneak or Snipe attacks... making the healers harder to kill.
I had to stir away my excitement and play some battles. However, I kept thinking how the Ulundin Overseer with Croire behind him would be one of the best strategies in the Splinterlands history!
Until then lets have a Poison Blast with Thaddius Brood! Noxious Fumes is one of my favorite battle-rules, as poison will have it's share of deaths. I usually go for a strong tank and a support unit that will dispel the curse.. but not today! The strategy for this low mana battle was to take advantage of the poison, reduce the health of the enemies and hit an additional target.
Thaddius Brood: -1 Health & -1 Spell Damage
Nightmare: Melee with Blast
My choice of strategy was amazing, as the opponent went for the Obsidian magic powered team. Three out of four opponents had their health reduced, and the two casters got their damage reduced to one.
The Nightmare hit hard, making two kills with one strike. Chicken wings and fried mushrooms on the menu, as the blast took down the Mycelic Morphoid and the Furious Chicken.
The Regal Peryton may be a fantastic beast, but couldn't handle the demonic fire of the Nightmare. Poison will claim them all... and the Khmer Princess played the Juliette role in our story! Another round and was game over, with the last drop of poison across the field.
Thaddius messed with the dark arts, but from his madness he was able to turn the tides of the battle in my favor. The dark magic and the agents of the Chaos Legion are sowing death wherever they can. See the full battle here!
