The Splinterlands Battle Mage Secrets - Born Again Like The Phoenix
The classic weekly battle challenge retired to make way for the Battle Mage Secrets series, making it more entertaining. This new set-up adds a focus on dynamic strategies, as players will be able to choose from a greater selection of more diverse units to bring into battle. May the gods of random be in my favor!
Let's enjoy the Born Again ruleset, where all the units will receive the Rebirth ability which allows them to self resurrect once. Everyone turning into Phoenix birds, back alive from their own ashes!
Born Again gives leeway for some crazy combos, and the only limitation will be the mana cap. The best approach is to select the cards that boost the most, even in after life!
Zombies? No... I meant cards with Martyr! This time I had to go for a low-cap battle, with only 20 mana to use for team selection, and Born Again was backed up by a no heal tactic.
Tarsa was the chosen one, the general to lead this army for resurrections bonanza and glory on the battlefield. The army was fierce, with fire running through their blood, and magic flowing through the air.
Tarsa: +1 Health & +1 Melee Attack
Venari Marksrat: Ranged with Martyr
Djinn Inferni: Caster with Giant Killer
Scorch Fiend: Melee Zero Mana Decoy
Efreet Elder: Caster with Last Stand
I faced a summoner you don't see that often, with monsters that you see even less. It was ages since I seen the Naga Fire Wizard or the crypto Halfling Alchemist with his Halving ability.
Do you know this card was created for the Bitcoin Halving, and his special ability is to reduce attacks in half? This would be interesting to see in combat, and see if he could stop Djinn Inferni!
Tarsa boosted the melee of the decoy Fiend, while the opponent reduced his attack back to one! No big issue! The first round was all about the Venari Marksrat, who died twice and boosted Djinn Inferni twice!
Can a Naga Fire Wizard outmatch a fire god? No... as Djinn Inferni eliminated the naga with one simple spell. Born again ... but only for one round! The Naga was taken down again, this time by the Efreet Elder.
I must admit the Halfling Alchemist is an amazing card, and with only one attack he made Djinn Inferni look like a lesser creature. His magical powers where halved from 5 and rounded up to only 2 magical power... insane!
Another round gone and Inferni was approaching his demise, while Fineas Rage was ready to make more victims. Who's gonna end up on top?
Djinn Inferni came back from his grave... just to be burn again! The Scorch Fiend is a poor tank, but is a great decoy! He died twice for the greater good of his team, while the Efreet Elder was slowly building up power!
Last Stand activated, and the Efreet Elder got pumped up to an insane 14 health and "only" two magic power. Are you ready to rumble?
Take one... Fineas Rage out! Born again and take two! Fineas Rage is out again! That high speed was useful, as the Halfling Alchemist missed his attack!
The Efreet Elder had too much experience to miss, and two attacks later he was both the last stand and the one who lived to tell the story! What went well? Martyr went well and the Efreet with Last Stand! See the full battle here!
This article was ready for publication, when this brawl with Born Again happened! I decided to add it as well for an even better educational lesson.
My favorite power-couple made a big cameo in this fight, with both Lobb and Quora doing an excellent job. Born Again battle-rule active and 28 mana cap was enough to deliver a strong team!
Lob Lowland: -1 Speed and +1 Gladiator Card
Venari Marksrat: Ranged with Martyr
Quora Towershead: Caster/Melee with Heal and Bloodlust
Scavo Technomancer: Caster with Blast
Fungus Flinger: Ranged with Martyr
Mycelic Morphoid: Melee with Thorns
Went Martyr crazy in this fight, hoping for some enemies with Sneak. The Marksrat was used as fake tank to boost Quora twice and the plan worked smoothly.
One round gone and Quora was already over-powered and her spells were pumped to deadly levels. Her spells will hit with four damage, while the melee was reduced to only three... for a while!
Quora snapped her fingers and the Disintegrator got disintegrated as Thanos was on the battlefield. Bloodlust filled Quora's eyes with rage, as her melee strike destroyed the reanimated Disintegrator.
The Scavo Technomancer finished the job and Quora's focus moved on Junker. Melee damage back to normal levels, followed by two attacks that missed Quora.
You know that feeling where you know you will win the battle the moment you see the line-ups? This was one of those battles!
Quora pumped even more after a double kill on Junker. She took him down with the spell and then took care of the zombie one with a sword slash!
The Technomancer added another trophy on his hit-list, and Quora gone Hulk mode with another kill! The Gargoya was petrified when he seen how the beautiful women turned into a hulking behemoth! Not joking at all... as the Gargoya Devil is made out of stone!
Sarcastically, the little Fungus Flinger was the one that shattered the Gargoya! It was Quora that sealed it's fate, as she crushed the resurrected statue. Fast battle even with Born Again! See the full battle here!
