SuperUMAns #57 - Crated "Poker Tournaments To Boost Community Engagement in Discord"
UMA offers Universal Market Access, promoting the crypto decentralization and implementing blockchain technology in the Cryptoverse. All types of DeFi protocols and DAOs can use the UMA tools to implement financial solutions and improve the way was assets can enhance the products.
The Optimistic Oracle has become the star product, bringing real-life data into the blockchain. The Optimistic Oracle differs from Chainlink and other traditional oracles because it has the ability to find the truth for ANY outcome, easily solving "gray area" disputes when there is no categorical right or wrong case.
The Optimistic Oracle helped prediction markets because it can determine any truth. The OO will verify any smart contract data, offering versatility to power markets predicting absolutely everything ... from the next US President, the SuperBowl winner, Oscar awards to and any other outcome.
UMA and the Optimistic Oracle will have a key role in the future of DAO governance, DeFi, decentralized prediction markets, and many more blockchain solutions. A whole Cryptoverse is powered by UMA and the Optimistic Oracle... and this is just the beginning!
The Optimistic Oracle can't make you a better poker player, but the UMAzing Poker Nights can improve your skills! The participation in the after-call poker tournaments surged and transformed our friendly fun into a full swing poker season. I elaborated my first proposal and requested 500 UMA tokens for the whole season, which will be used as a prize pool for the top participants.
Join the UMA Discord to get the latest news from the Community Calls, every Tuesday at 6:30 PM UTC. The poker tournament is the after-party, taking place immediately after the call. Are you ready for UMAzing tournaments and crypto prizes?
Poker Tournaments To Boost Community Engagement in Discord
Summary:
This proposal introduces a perpetual poker event that will take place after the weekly community call, with the purpose to boost the call’s attendance and general engagement of users in the UMA Discord.
The target is to create and implement a meaningful system, where community members will look forward to attending the calls, and the after-call event.
This proposal aims to deliver a system that will bring server activity and new members from now until December, with easy to check growth and measurable engagement.
Motivation:
The current engagement in the server is low, except when OO disputes are taking place. This proposal wants to introduce a low-cost solution to boost both engagement and the number of active users.
The above will be achieved by hosting a poker tournament after each call, giving everyone the possibility to join and on the long term earn $UMA tokens.
This proposal recommends setting a prize pool for the “season”, with prizes to be distributed after the last event of 2023. The “season” is the period of time since the first tournament took place and the All-Star Game planned for the start of December.
There aremany weeks left until the final tournament and holding weekly events will create a synergy between delivering educational content in the Community Calls and a recreational aspect after them.
Specification & Implementation:
The following is what I’ll recommend as prize pool, prize allocation, point system and general delivery of the idea:
500 UMA tokens allocated for the poker season, which will last until December. The members will earn points on a weekly basis, based on their place for each tournament, which will be added in the general leaderboard.
The prize pool will be shared between the top ranked users in the season leaderboard and the top 8 players in the December All-Star Game. 420 UMA to be distributed to the season’s top six players, while the remaining 80 UMA tokens to be distributed to the top 5 ranked players at the last game of the year, and various tips throughout the season.
Season Prizes:
1st place: 120 UMA
2nd place: 100 UMA
3rd place: 80 UMA
4th place: 50 UMA
5th place: 30 UMA
6th place: 15 UMA
7th place: 10 UMA
8th - 10th place: 5 UMA
All-Star Game (December) prizes
1st place: 18 UMA
2nd place: 15 UMA
3rd place: 12 UMA
4th place: 9 UMA
5th place: 6 UMA
6th place: 3 UMA
The winner of each weekly event will receive 10 points, the runner-up will receive 7 points, the third place will receive 5 points and the fourth place will receive 3 points, while the 5th place will be awarded 2 points.. One point to be added for each participant no matter the place.
The participation on Community Calls will improve by default, as everyone will want to be online when the poker even starts. This can be achieved by joining the Community Call and actively listening, because each call can have a different end time.
The previous poker tournaments will be considered part of the season, and the participants will receive points based on their participation. This will have a minor impact on the general overboard, as at least 15 more tournaments will be organized.
Rationale:
The decision to approve the perpetual series of events will bring organic growth and engagement, and will also motivate users to be more active. Weekly leaderboard updates, new tournament announcements will encourage genuine discussion.
New members will be attracted by the possibility to earn UMA tokens, and they will become active members due to the long term of the event.
New UMA tokenholders, and the likelihood of them using the prize for staking and voting is high. The token spread will be optimal, with a potential 10 new UMA holders by the end of the year. The likelihood of user retention is high, as the new members will gain a good understanding of how UMA and UMA tools are working
Downside (Cons):
One possible failure mode here would be that the engagement will be low and the users’ participation will not reach the desired standards. The UMA tokens will still serve their purpose, as only the members that actively participated will be rewarded.
I am writing about it because the budget was approved and the season just got enhanced. Tournament #13 maintained the participation at the same level, with 15 players competing for the crown. It was Crackers turn to top the table, and won the duel against Olukurou and TheRealTuna
Three months ago we started humble, and the UMAzing Poker Tournament #14 was a reason for celebration. Was the best time to share some $UMA and $ACX to the participants, one of those occasions when everyone is a winner!
Mighty Stefan broke the balance with this all-in, and the unholy hand landed a good win. Tipped him with 6.66 ACX for his courage!
It was a crazy game and this killer hand seal my faith! I was winning it but I got rivered! The 10 didn't made my had stronger... it took me out of the game! Luck is part of the game and fortune favors the brave!
Was a walk in the park for ristarsb after that huge win, and used well the leader position to win the game. Obitoo finished second and added 7 points to his tally, while Pantera received 5 points for finishing third. It's a long way until December, but every point will matter.
I took some time to centralize the results of all previous events, and here is where we are standing now! We played 14 tournaments and we we had 8 winners, from the 36 people that joined at least once.
The updated leaderboard has info about how many events each of the participants joined, how many crowns they won, and the share of the prize pool they can get at the end of the poker season.
The leaderboard gives top insight about the player's quality and commitment. Infinity and Pantera are leading the pack, with others ready to challenge the top spots. Can you see the most efficient players? Manny won both the events he participated, while ristarsb got two crowns in only four tournaments.
